Spend a few days with casually playing through with no prior knowledge to the game or franchises before it. - Love the game, but I have been so stuck due to the very very limited tutorial all around. @@HorathDrakhey since you are just here, i have a question: I started the game during the quarantine and I have now everything together for my first expedition. now it seems like i can just start the next quest, but I assume it is smarter to travel around and go to every camp, gather ressources and expand my tribe / village / fortress. Is this correct?

Nah, once you got everything, go on the expedition (or at least save first) - there is a time limit on the first part of the game in Denmark. But if you got time, sure. More quest = more XP, more money ;-)

So, i got the game and as a total noob i went for a badly optimized full melee dane axe fighter. I am next to no use to my party if there is even a single archer around and still don't do enough damage for my liking. I want to restart, and of all thing I've gotten my eye on a dual-wield dagger build+poison, kinda like a lightly armed berserker that has a few tricks up the bear fur. To you or anyone who whishes to respond, is such a build even viable?

Daggers don't really benefit from being dual wielded, I would recommend dual axes instead, you can get some seriously insane damage from that. You could still save your dane axe guy, give him a shield and any random one handed weapon that you have lying around as his primary weapon. The shield will block all the archers attacks until you are in melee range. Then switch to the axe and have at 'em! If you stick with the daggers, I'd go for the triple bleeding attack, that could stack nicely with poison...

How do we go about improving our reputation with specific party members? I'm guessing trial and error--some prefer these sorts of actions, some prefer those sorts of actions. Do you know which characters prefer which sorts of things?

Yes, in the skill menu! Look under their portrait. There you'll see words that describe their character, like peaceful, aggressive, open-minded, cunning etc...

At minute 5: you're talking about using the throwing rock skill and not wanting to hit. A way to game that is to have the required strength to use throw (4 minimum) but it's a ranged ability so it governs off your perception. so if you have a rather low perception you won't hit as often. Meaning you're more likely to get your damage buff of 50% the way you're doing it. However, dumping your perception down to 1 may be catastrophic in the long run in some conversations and such. But if you're going for a strictly "crush all before me" type build, I'd assume it might help.

Hey, so I came across your videos trying to find one thing: How the hell does the sword skill 'execute' work?! I use it, nothing happens on the next turn, I'm sure i'm missing something...

Well, I suggest starting the game and see if fights are too difficult for your taste on insane. You can always change the difficulty at any time in the options menu, so don't worry about the difficulty you start with. Good luck on your playthrough!

Horath Drak yea i already did all the quests on ribe, got all mercs. only 1 quest i could not finish the two people who fighting over pigs. I tried talk to marcdoll (i forgot the exact name) but nothing happen :( I tried wandering around until my character died but still no new quest and hoping the boat will finished but no lol, the game is over and i have to start a new game.

That is a bug that appears if you do the tomb quest last, it should be fixed in the new patch.

How did you get 3 upgrade to danish axe at character creation ? It's blocked at 2 upgrade until you spend 100 points.

Has it really been four years?! Time toys I suppose, I remember when you started your first playthrough. Every time you started battle you'd put on your helmet, after you attacked that wedding your character got Ptsd and became more peaceful. I recently got EV on steam Black Friday sale, I WISH you could use nonlethal on enemies and make them thralls! Seems KZbin unsubscribed me from you? Odd.

One other thing that i haven't tried: does special armor properties give you back the special material when salvaging? Like oiled, webbed, etc.

The Daneaxe skills need a buff in my opinion; they're severely outclassed by dual wielding, unfortunately.

EDITED: Damage formula is as follows; Damage attribute * Corresponding weapon skill = Skill based damage (Variable weapon damage adds on top as well as "base damage" explained below). Endurance and shield skill block chance works the same way. Weapon damage additionally got a base damage which is entirely based upon your attribute *3. Some encounters has become easier due to this change and some has gotten harder. Character builds haven't changed much, though, as going for 8 rather than 10 is still a very viable options since you don't lose more than 16 damage at max skill. Example; 1. Str 8 End 8 Fin 3 Per 6 Sen 4 (8*skill level= Strength skill based damage) + (8*3=24 base damage) + (weapon) 2. Str 10 End 8 Fin 1 Per 6 Sen 4 (10*skill level= Strength skill based damage) + (10x3=30 base damge) + (weapon) 3. Str 8 End 10 Fin 1 Per 6 Sen 4 (8*skill level =Strength skill based damage) + (8*3=24 base damage) + (weapon) These are all very viable Leader characters without huge weaknesses. These numbers can obviously be switched around to make Finesse based or Sense based. Perception 6 adds 50% Armor Penetration through "Keen Eye" skill, which virtually adds more damage than any other skill against the tougher opponents. I consider it a must for all Hird members that are damage dealers.

This has changed since the patch 1.0.2 released. Strength based skills now only increase damage by (skill level *4) 20 at skill level 5. Finesse remains at 50 (skill level *10) Perhaps this means that 10 strength is more essential than before for tanks and berserkers. The game at least got a whole lot easier, though, since most shield opponents doesn't do as much damage to your Hird. EDIT: Fixed the first post. Sorry for the confusion.

Formula should correspond with the one in the game now. I either made some mistakes initially or they've changed the formula in the latest patch. I'm on steam update, so I can't really rollback and check what the case is.

I don't think they actually changed the formula in 1.0.2, pretty sure strength always scaled the skills governed by strength in the same way. One of the reasons why I went with 10 strength for my guy in the series.

What do you mean, remove? Yes, you can get completely rid of your followers once you reach the point where you can hire mercenaries (towards the end of the first part of the game). If you want to just have different people with you on the map, exit the map at a map marker, then re-enter it and select different people...

yeah let's be honest, I created a really great archer, then upgraded myself and Ketill. Between us, Nefja's OP spear skills, and Gunarr's amazing axe skills, all I needed was a bloke with a dane axe so I could rip away the enemy's shield and kill them in one hit. Then I buffed Roskva so that I could use her as an archer too (worst case scenario). Basically unstoppable.

I honestly do not get the game. I played it for several hours, finished all the quests I found, build several things in Skerne and now I am stuck with nothing to do. So I figured I'd need to wait for the timer to run out in order to have the ability to travel to Britain but I get "Game Over" So I tried it again, this time talking to literally everyone in Skerne and Ribe finding another quest so I did that and I waited again, Nothing I once more get Game Over. I don't know if this is a bug or some shit but I am seriously stuck, if anyone got a clue what you have to do once you finish all prep Quests, do feel free to help me, I really like the game and no walkthrough is where I am at yet, so I am seriously stuck.

There is a bug involving the tomb raider quest and if you do that preparation quest last it can bug your game out so you can't progress.

@Horath Drak (and any player looking at 'Expeditions: Viking' videos and seeking ideas and advice) - a QoL tip #1: Set 'highlight all loot items' keyboard binding (default *Left Alt* ) to the *Caps Lock* key (as either primary or secondary binding) in order to turn it into toggle control. This way, instead of cramping a finger by constantly having to press and hold *Left Alt* (or having to remember to press it every time you are searching for loot and inevitably missing things or forgetting to check at all), you can toggle highlights *on / off* as you wish, and leave it *on* when scouring an entire map for loot you may have missed. It avoids any frustration, annoyance, or having to return to a location just because you may have missed checking for, or collecting an item. If choosing to toggle 'highlight loot items' on whilst exploring, you only need to remember to toggle it on again (by pressing *Caps Lock* again): 1. each time you enter a new 3D location from the 2D world map, 2. enter and exit an interior area within that location (town, village, forest, marsh, etc.), or 3. relaunching the game and loading or reloading a save. Basically, you need to reactivate the toggle after each instance resulting in a loading screen (including the loading an exterior / open area of the map, or the interior of a building) - because they automatically deactivate your 'toggle loot highlights on.'
