So I personally bought this controller for a backup controller for when my normal controller died/when I wanna co-op, and honestly it’s been fine. Honestly, if you can use a SNES or NES controller, it's not any smaller than that. For what I've been using it for, it's been great for me. I can understand why this controller might not be good for many modern Playstation games. But having the additional buttons on this controller worked really well for me with my Pi. Also I was able to get it pretty cheap. So again, this might not be good for everyone, but for me and for what I've been using it for, it's been great.

I bought one of these yesterday for £10 and it's fantastic. I actually prefer it over the original PS4 controller. It fits so well in my hand, the buttons actually feel more responsive than the original controller, with nice click to it. The thumbsticks have some satisfying feedback too. If you push them and let go, they really snap back into place. I honestly don't see anything wrong with the controller, besides the touchpad. Which at this point, hardly any game even uses. @WhoWatchesVideos6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, HORI tends to be hit or miss. Stuff they make is either pretty darn good or really crap. Also, the touchpad problem is because Infamous: Second Son probably uses a touchpad _touch_ input but the touchpad button near the top of the controller is for when a game requires the button under the touchpad. The TP button is for touch inputs and Second Son probably wants you to hold your finger on the touchpad for a certain period of time to get you out of the water.

I bought one for a kid to use on a Raspberry Pi / RetroPie. Most of its PS4 related shortcomings don't apply there. Except for those damn slippy thimbsticks! So I added those aftermarket rubber clip on things, and they made a huge difference! The thumbsticks feel great. They're nice and grippy, and have a surprisingly smooth action. It's actually very satisfying to use, now. Totally transformed the litlle thing into something quite pleasant and very usable for the purpose. And the form factor is ideal for those retro systems we're emulating on EmulationStation. It may not be the best PS4 conroller, but it's great for what I'm using it for.

I don't know, most cross-platform titles aren't tightly bound to any Playstation specific features such as touch and motion, nor even to analogue triggers. The usual grips however are a major issue, they cause RSI when trying to reach thumb sticks if your hands are too small - the consoles that did this right are GameCube and Dreamcast, with less meaty wings or placement closer to edge. I think this has a use. The thumbstick isn't rubberised out of fear that the rubber would fall off or decay like on so many controllers or because the necessary double-shot TPU-ABS is a special process that is among the most expensive and difficult to get right when it comes to custom parts. The middle buttons are rubber because they're part of the switch like in TV remote controls, so it's a cost cutting measure for controls that are used infrequently and don't have to be the most responsive.

An 8 year-old isn't going to care about analog controls to shave half a second off their pb in (insert racing game here) or hairtrigger response times in (insert fps here). They're going to be having fun playing (insert kiddy game here) because they're 8 using a controller their parents can actually afford. Not everyone can spend $80 every time they want a new controller cause the kid broke it or spilled pop on it. $40 is a great price for a controller for a child, especially with the rugged build quality that was actually praised in this video. Oh what, infamous doesn't work? Oh no the horror. My kid can't play a buggy launch title that based itself entirely on gimmicks.... and is M rated. not really an excuse, if there are better controllers on the market for the same price. Sure they wont work on a ps4 but that shouldn't matter when it comes to quality
@Vocaloid-English6 жыл бұрын
Yeah sure let me just buy my kid a $5 NES controller so he can play PS4 games. Cause that's totally how it works. This isn't being judged as a controller. It's being judged as a *PS4* controller. The two main gripes are the lack of analog triggers (a predominately PS4 feature) as well as a convoluted trackpad (a PS4 exclusive feature). Take the need for those two things out and what do you have? a 30 second video. So yes, it being a controller for use on the PS4 does matter.
@jameshill5458 Жыл бұрын
I bought it for my 7 year old, he loves it with all the kid games he plays. My friends kid says the same. Here lies the issue. Maybe if, ya know, the reviewer asked an actual child how it was to play games a child would play, the review would make more sense. As of now, it’s just a grown man yelling about something he’s way too old to comprehend.
@Bezzerkus Жыл бұрын
I watched this review and came to the same conclusion immediately. Has no clue what exactly kids hands can or cannot do and is just on a tangent for why he doesn’t like it for his hands and playstyle.

I found it just as easy if not easier to use the stick joysticks in it. You could just add the grips to it yourself. But the PS1 idea i never realized you COULD do.

I have this same one. I can tell you, this. The buttons are fine, all of them. Dpad included. Never had a miss press on the dpad. There is no light, there is no gyro, there is no vibration, and there is no analog triggers. But....Most games barely use gryo or the light. Vibration is fun and all but really not needed, and analog triggers are hardly ever taken advantage of except in racing games. The analog sticks have a little grip around the edges due to hard plastic ring and what i can only call spikes. The touchpad thing is very weird...But with the games I own, they literally just use that pad as a button anyways, not as a touch pad. (think the back panel of a vita. how often is that used to it's fullest?) I used this controller for my entire playthrough of 70 hours of Monster Hunter World. It worked perfectly. The button that looks like a touchpad opened the map no problem. The buttons and sticks were responsive enough, albeit a little slick on the left stick. The buttons felt like i could rage press them and not worry, and with it being wired, there was no battery limit that i had to worry about. I would suggest this as a 'Friend you like but don't trust' co-op controller. Let the stick anger them for an easy win, and when they rage, they ain't gonna break it. I rate this 7/10 games won against a friend because he used this controller.

My three and five year-old nieces love playing on my PS4, even though they don't really understand games yet. But the Dual Shock 4 is just to big for them - they can't hold it and work all the buttons comfortably - so I went and ordered this Hori Mini Controller for them. It's the perfect size for their small hands. I agree with the problem of the thumbsticks having no grip though. Fortunately, the thumbsticks are almost exactly the same size as the thumbsticks on a pair of Nintendo Switch Joycons, so I ordered some 3rd party grips and fitted the ones that matched the concave shape of the thumbsticks - now they grip perfectly. It's no big deal.

I'm pretty sure they didn't design it for being used in single player games, it always shows the kid being player 2. Why would you buy a second controller just to play games that don't require a second controller o3o

Even then, the Dualshock 4 is way too big for children's hand.
@scarffoxandfriends94016 жыл бұрын
Dragzilla 66 I'm saying the original controller comes with the console, there's no reason to buy a second controller for single player games when you have a controller. The ps4 isnt known for it's massive library of must play local multiplayer exclusive games. So it makes since to some to buy a $20 second controller over a $60 one when they knowwhat it's hardly ever going to get used. XD I honostly forget that I have a second ps4 controller cause it never gets used.

This is a good controller , your not even playing games meant for children. I bought this for my son and he loves it. I totally understand that the L2&R2 aren’t analog or the motion action are gone , it’s because to save space &money . If your gonna play Teen & Mature games which requires those features, you darn screwed up because this is meant for kids, even the box shows kids playing with this. Daddy has the DS4 and his son has the Hori Mini. You missed the mark by a million years with this video and no brownie points for you. not your fault that you didn’t understand what it was meant to be used by, next time play kid games with kid products, you might as well play street fighter v with a racing wheel controller, get what I mean? This is a good controller and you missed the point. You’ll get it next time

Well, we bought this mini controller for my little brother so we could play some fun Co-op games together and he loves this little thing! He hates racing games anyway, so he's totally fine with everything this offers! His tiny hands fit it very neatly as well. If you don't like the controller, it's fine of course (but most people here and adults anyways or at least above the age of 13, you aren't gonna like this controller much.)

Honestly, this is my new go-to controller. I genuinely enjoy the d-pad, even playing games like Duck Game where it's used heavily. I don't have a lot of games that I play that use any of the more... Gimmicky stuff, I've had zero issues with Borderlands 2, Gauntlet Legends, and a bunch of third-party games. I always felt like the triggers on the Dualshock 4 had just a bit too much travel. These ones are weird certainly, but I'm not missing out when it comes to the analog, I prefer buttons to triggers when analog isn't necessary. I believe this controller truly shines on the PC, though. Nothing I've thrown at it has given me any issue. It feels right playing SNES emulators, ironically enough, even though it's a different feel. The rubber pads were initially a big thing for me too, but I personally haven't really had any issues with slipping. I'll just have to respectfully disagree with you here, Rerez.

Why the hate? The non rubbery thumbsticks are much more durable than rubberized ones, which wear out and sometimes get sticky. And if children are involved, most of the time they will chew them. If you really want the rubber, you should apply rubberized thumbsticks covers. I always use those to protect the thumbsticks or to have more grip if the thumbsticks are made of solid plastic.

4:38 i cant get over how Shane sounds like Master Shake from Aqua Teen Hunger Force at this point. I forgot to mention how this controller reminds me of the ER at the hospital when I was a kid and how they had PS2 booths for kids like me at the time to use while waiting for a loved one and they had godawful controllers like this that were made by namco or some Sony affiliate that I can't remember with custom writing on it for the brand of the booth and the hospital logos and this controller seems to be for institutional use like for daycares, schools and the like.

I've been eyeing this controller for a while, so seeing this review has been helpful. I can deal with some missing features on a budget controller, but the sound of the d-pad and the touchpad function as described sounds less than desirable. It sounds like it'll do for just getting something out for any given multiplayer game i suppose.

Hori is known for great fighting games controllers... Buying it to play other genres like racing games are at your own risk... I know this is not advertised on the box, so it's not the customer's fault. That's why this review is important. I understand not every games meant for the controller. I can play all the basic stuff like gta 5, COD, ff14, street fighter, a lot of different varieties of games out there. Right now I’m playing fallout 4 with it and it works just as well. Yes there’s no touch pad feature. However the touch pad is supposed to be more as a mouse for the games. Again meant for most games not all, but its durability totally stomps the lifespan of a standard dual shock. Go ahead and spend $50 on a new controller, I’ll take this mini pad and buy a few more with the usb feature 10 foot cord any day of the week. Sorry I cannot agree with you on this one bud. Says on the box what games it’s more less recommended for.
