Yeeeeeeesss. I have bugged Hori numerous times about bringing back the cross D-pad on the Fighting Commander. I'm still a bit worried because it's still basically a circle pad, but with a cross d pad on top... but hopefully it feels right to me. My inputs are so much cleaner on a cross d pad compared to a circle pad, to the point that I was thinking of getting an adapter so I could use my FC4 on PS5. And welcome back, this is a nice surprise.

Will see how this goes, I sense a number of people have complained about the standard Octa hence Hori taking action Of all the dpads on offer with this controller. I am hoping that we all find a configuration we like. I hear what you're saying about it's "crossed shape" dpad, time will tell

Hori heard the complaints about the Octagon dpad and decided to add switchable ones. I actually liked the Octa. Got my first last Friday actually. The first dpad where I can actually do stuff. Will probably grab the Octa Pro as well if my Hitbox journey won't enlighten me

Some people like myself would rather spend more money on something you think is too expensive rather than have to relearn muscle memory on a totally different type of input device. I can play on a standard arcade stick. I can play on leverless. I prefer pad, though. I am aware of the advantages of leverless and have really considered investing the time into using one, but they still just don't feel right to me. So far, what feels the best to me is the Hori Fighting Commander 3 design which was eventually brought over to PS4 to replace the weird asymmetrical original FC4. It feels the best to me, and my execution is way better on it. But the FC Octa has an analog stick and the software allows me to program the sensitivity of each individual direction, so that's what I use currently as I like the advantages that has. But I have been wanting Hori to release an updated OCTA with a cross D pad, and if it costs $150 that's fine with me.

I mean, there's an entire market for "pro controllers" that cost $200 whether we're talking Dualsense Edge, Razer Wolverine, victrix pro bfg, etc., so the price of a pad really comes down to its offerings. How's the build? How's it feel? How's it function? At the end of the day, if the tool exceeds the quality of others in its market then there's going to be a lot of people comfortable and willing to spend $150 for it and that wouldn't be the most outrageous asking. To be honest, Hori trying to sell controllers at the $50 mark might be one of the reasons that their products feel more like cheap knockoff fisher price toys than competitive input devices.

Respectfully, I'm gonna say that, from the video, it looks like the d-pad doesn't move much when you press it, which is half the reason why the old Octa model was garbage (the other half being the d-pad is too small). I don't understand why Hori can't seem to nail a decent d-pad, which is a pity because the buttons are good IMO. Well, we are lucky enough though, because our favourite youtuber is gonna try it for us and tell if it's worth the money :-)

Only small gripe is that they didn't put a space between the shoulder buttons, but I learnt to live with this with the OG octa. Might be the one 🤞

Looks pretty much what I hope for the only worry is the dpad, I which they could just get that from Razer, lol. The sticks are also nice to have just for the fact that it is easier to navigate lobbys or something like Street Fighters world tour, it may sound trivial but it is kind of annoying for me without it. A removable cable is also a big bonus, should be the standard.

The extra dpads aren't going to mean much if the dpad's internals aren't good. I'm not too hopeful since none of Hori's pads have a center pivot in them for whatever reason. Terrible pads if you're a Mishima player. Then again, I've seen Tekken players harder techniques with way worse controllers so it truly is up in the air to how good this new controller can be/how well you can get used to it. I hope the right analog is serviceable enough to where I could feasibly use it for other games as well, so I don't have to keep switching out controllers.

I currently use the victrix and my only issues with it are its small size, the buttons being too close and the buttons are too sensitive/ don't press into the controller at all. Otherwise it's still usable and I'm constantly utilizing the modularity between playing fighting games and the rest.

Definitely gonna preorder this when available. Did u try out the Turtle Beach Stealth Pivot controller? I returned it after a few hours of use. The controller is great in terms of hardware, but u can only change the extra buttons in the app (back buttons & 2 of the 6 face buttons). so ur basically stuck with 2 r1 & r2 buttons on the right-side of the controller. I hope they update the software to allow u to change any button u want; but its useless to me as it is now.

I ordered the Turtle Beach pad and tested it today, I was able to map LSB and RSB to P1 and P2 on the face of the pad and I kept the shoulder buttons as stock. So the layout was perfect, 10 individually mapped buttons (only LSB and RSB repeating as they appear on the left side by default). Sucks that you can't map every single buttons but this layout worked well. That said the dpad was really odd, at first I loved it but in game I found it really hard to move around quickly in situations, cancelling into Super from DP seemed a bit hit and miss when on the left hand side. Really good controller with a lot of offers but for SF it wasn't it for me

@RushG yea i can see the dpad needing some getting used to. i liked it better than the hori octa, which felt super stiff out the box but gets easier overtime. I hope u do decide to make a review of the turtle beach controller just so ppl kno what ther getting into. I was going to mak a review vid myself but i was too disappointed with the controller to even put in the energy & just shipped it back. Honestly its sad tht no matter what comes out, nothing feels better than the betop thorn imo. The sega 8bitdo controller is very good too with a great dpad, but i wished they made a bigger ver wher the face buttons are all flat and wide lik the A, B & Rt buttons currently are. If this new hori octa comes out and i can change all the buttons in the app, then ill definitely try to mak it my new main controller. Thanks for making this vid btw!
