And I thought the 10th anniversary was bad. Forza Horizon has teamed up with Donut Media to create an update showcasing the Donut Media cars and crew, except forgot one slightly important thing. Actually making the update about Donut Media. To add insult to injury Playground added zero vehicles that were from the Donut fleet, or even any new cars to the series. To make matters worse Rocket Bunny returned to the game, but only the kits that we had in previous games and nothing new.

Yeah, it's weird. And I'm starting to feel like something is going on behind the scenes. I can't be licensing on it's own. In the time FH5 released, so did Gran Turismo 7 and WRC: Generations. 2 different racing games, both came with Lancia's in them. If the organisation behind Lancia had licencing issues/wanted a break to get things back on track, they wouldn't licence other games during that break time. Yet they did. Lancia isn't a WRC exclusive brand either. It's been a year now and there's no sign, no update on how things are with the license. Is it even coming to the game? If Motorsport 8 ever launches, it would be weird if it has no Lancia's in it.

Friendly reminder that this game has been out for a year and the paddle shifters still have not been fixed. I searched around and the only answer I could find was from a forum where they talked about this and the devs simply replied saying it was in the list of known bugs. That was from December 2021.

Honestly a good summary. I'm not interested in Donut Media themselves but I did not expect even recycled character models. From what I've seen, raytracing isn't noticeable, in fact Deoxide posted a photo on twitter where another car blatantly did not show up in the reflection. Pretty appalling update but I have come to expect this which is sad but the truth with FH5. Good idea with delaying or dropping the whole FH5 critic, thought about something similar ages ago but "don't want to be that guy" either xD

The way this Raytracing technique works is that the car only reflects itself. It still uses the same standard cubemap to reflect the environment and other cars. The only reflections you'll ever see are from the car itself (side mirrors, wipers, rear wings and so on). Pretty cheap if you ask me...

The issue i think is that FH series is a victim of its success- They are trying to squeeze every last drop out of it for very little extra cost to max their profit. Their budget most likely keeps getting cut and are expected to do more with less. I for one would love to see better cut scenes where the characters actually interact like the first horizon did. it was more fun for sure.

Unfortunately when complaints are made, they are silenced by the developers. FH5 forums, where you're specifically told to make complaints? Your thread is locked or deleted for some obscure breach of rules. PGG livestreams and updates? Comments deleted by moderators. Tickets? Ignored. Even the beta testers aren't listened to when they demonstrate specific issues with the game. Recently, a thread was made listing issues that needed fixing with the game, as well as additions that could be put into the code. All of these issues and additions were either basic fixes or copy-pastes from previous Forza games. The thread gained hundreds of votes and almost as many replies, but was locked by the developers as a thread is 'not allowed to contain multiple issues'. However, when previously posting issues individually, posters have been accused of spamming. It feels as if the game is still in its beta state, even over a year after release. This month's rivals event contained a time cap for a laptime of 1:07.200, and any laptime achieved below this was immediately deleted from the board. Fortunately, this has now been removed, but the pace estimate was so far off that following the cap removal, the current legitimate world record stands at 1:06.557 at time of writing. There's no denying that the anticheat software has worked, but the implementation of a hard cap that was in fact very possible for a lot of players is not the way to go. However, another issue with the anticheat (or something else added into the game, we cannot be certain) is that the upgrade menu now lags horrendously whenever one navigates through it. This has never been an issue before, and is not affected by performance settings - unlike the new tank in average frame rates. Some players have lost up to 30fps on the same settings. The game is feeling increasingly clunky and miserable, and the promises of a brighter future seem further and further away.

Whether we think that the monthly free updates are a generous thing from Playground Games, my biggest issue with this game is that it still cannot jump the bar to be FH5. Because aside from the mexico map and improved sounds (though still not the best in the industry) I cant really think about any innovation. Sure the map is nice, but if you look closely its the same as every other horizon map. A highway that runs from one side to the other, one big city which roughly occupies 1/25 of the map (if that) a smaller town, and just the general flatness all around. Sure they broke that latter trend a bit in FH5 with the volcano or the canyon, but they all were conveniently placed around the edges, so it won't affect the eliminator players that much. This game seriously needs a complete overhaul. Or something huge in innovations. Its PG's pick. Not that I expect anything from them at this point

Not only that, but I just look at this game and you compare it to older ones and it saddening. Like the multiplayer system in Horizon 1 was literally perfect and catered to everyone. Casual free roamers, competitive racers etc. I look at the convoy system or the way adventure modes are set here and it’s disgusting. Constant connection issues, barely any freedom. That on top of the recycled content and the fact this game is a half assed version of 4 (which in my opinion is also one of the weaker entries to the series but at least it had some redeeming qualities as well) just shows how much PG have dropped the ball. If they ever release Horizon 6 I won’t be buying it until way after it’s release date just to be sure it isn’t the same mess, I just don’t have any hope for the series anymore.

I've gone back to playing horizon 1 recently and wow, that first game was amazing where your rivals actually insult you and it isn't just a pure cringe fest. Festival atmosphere, both shit cars and good ones without a supercar thrown at you very early on, and best of all, the ladies, oh the ladies! These new Forza games feel soft and tame it's like they're trying to fit in with the youth of today but even they think it's cringe. Since horizon 4 I have found myself playing, doing the main races then not touching the game again for months until a new big update cinema out. I finished the hotwheels update when it came out, took me best part of 2 weeks and that was with doing other stuff through my week. The only main thing Forza Horizon has going for it is it's graphics even the music now is shit. I have more fun playing Forza Motorsport 7 than I do with Horizon 5. And the ONLY reason I liked horizon 4 is because it was set in UK and it's not often a game is set in my own country. But other than that, horizon 4 isn't that great either.

Basically my feelings summarized in one video lol. Ive been playing since fh1s release with my friends and when fh4 was coming we were So hyped, we played for a solid week and then just stopped playing it. Sad thing is we still play fh1 on my xbox 360. Its been TEN YEARS. If that doesnt speak volumes idk what does. Same thing happened with fh5, but this time we were expecting it to be bad. But oh boy our expectations were still too high. The big map is just too big at this point, theres nothing to do tbh, you just do races to get cars that you drive for 5 mins and then realize they feel the same as every other car in the game. My friend bought the xbox x just for forza. I hate when devs completely overlook singleplayer in games that would benefit from it. Fh1 was a singleplayer game with multiplayer. It had great progression, great music, great rivals and amazing atmosphere. The rally dlc was great too, it shows that recycling a map can work well if you do just a little bit of tweaking. Wish thered be a fh1 remake or something but i feel like playground would ruin it anyway

I agree besides the size of map, which i think is way too small. I've played The Crew 2 for some time and besides horrible physics the scaled down version of the USA is a blast to explore, it takes about 45 min to drive coast to coast via highways, the environment is diverse and contains interesting sites. I would love Playground Games to bring some of that energy to Horizon franchise, nowadays convoy cruisin gets boring quickly as you've been everywhere thousand times and every 'biome' is so small.

Everyone is tired of the exaggerated Let's Go! Streams where they always over glorify their updates with not new content and even some members of PG look like they are uninterested in the project (One of the hosts speaks so low and boring that it makes you feel depressed). And is stupid to think some people consider this kind of videos harassment and hate towards Forza, but as players, we only want these guys to do a better game. If Forza community was as vocal as it was Gran Turismo one when the economy issue happened, maybe we can have some content or at least communication of what's going on there.

I mean, yeah, migrating good cars from previous parts is good, but I think that should be done right with the game's initial release, while the updates have given us some really unpopular cars like Morris Traveler. Like, who uses it as their main car? Not many, I'm sure. Meanwhile what killed me in FH5 is that they even removed some good FH4 cars like BMW 850CSi and a 6-gen Mitsubishi Galant VR-4, when I hoped for the 8-gen to finally appear in the game. Still, all that made me take a break and search for some fun games that are aimed at drifting. Anyway, it's all just sad

I jumped from Horizon to Assetto a year ago and i dont want to come back. Great mod base, super optimisation and graphics for all tastes. Different maps and realistic car handling, where you really sweat behind a supercar wheel, not just turn left or right.

Im way behind in this game, just picked it back up about 2 weeks ago so its not like I was dying for content but Im having a blast with the Donut stuff and the Hotwheels stuff. i too am actually just redownloading this game and breaking the wheel out. I honestly just enjoy driving around when i have an itch to go out and waste gas. With gas prices the way they are, my buddies and I just meet up in game and complete some races now.

Forza has become complicit and lazy. They know they're the #1 open world racing game. FH5 is literally a placeholder while they get the next Forza Motorsport ready. Purposefully cutting cars to add them in later as new content is already predatory but they're adding these cars with NO changes. S15 body hasn't been updated. Textures dating back all the way to early motorsport games in the starion. Every single car added to the game is now locked behind forzathon points and the auction house because you can't buy them after unlocking them in the playlist. Opening the game feels like a chore just to get this week's mediocre car. I love this game series to death but this game just feels like the biggest slap in the face to Forza fans by sucking up to the game pass players who will pick up this game once and never touch it again.

I think this update came out when it did because something had to follow the horizon tenth anniversary content to retain engagement, especially since it was marketed pretty well and was probably bringing in new and/or returning players. Having the drip feed of content end right after a big celebration would definitely lead to some people dropping the game for a while, and we can't have that in the era of live service gaming apparently.
