Horizon came out Friday and it's already dropped to #4 with only $12 million at the box office. #2 is A Quiet Place, which also opened Friday and has sold $60 million worth of tickets. $60 million US = Good. $100+ Million WorldWide= Really Good. $12 Million= Really Bad.

I’m watching on Netflix (I haven’t been to the theater in a long time). I knew nothing about the movie, just saw a preview & decided to watch. I didn’t even catch the name of the movie until I was confused at the ending…that’s when I saw Chapter 1. It says it’s #2 on Netflix so it will reach viewers like me who no longer go to the movie. I can’t wait to see Chapter 2!!!

I loved it, but I'm glad you did this, because I couldn't figure out what the end was. They said that the wagon train was on the Santa Fe Trail, but the Corrigans and Horizon are in Montana and Wyoming. Ft Bridger was on the Oregon Trail not the Santa Fe. The only place they are close is at the start, the Oregon Trail began in Independence Ks. and the Santa Fe in Franklin Ks.

Pro-tu-ga-nist? Kind of a dead giveaway that this is a computer-generated voice at work. Okay, ya wanna go that route, fine, but damn, at least listen to it and ask yourself; do I really want that put out there that way? A pet-peeve of mine since I'm not a fan of fake voices. If it's not a fake voice, it's pronounced pro-tag-a-nist. Hooked on phonics 101. Just sayin.

I am a fan of Costner and I wanted to judge for myself after a lot of hate thrown at this film. I know that this is a setup for a larger story but I thought it was boring. The dialogue was not well written or engaging at all. The acting was not great either. It would have been better as a limited series, broken up into 1 hour episodes. I'm open minded about the rest of the series. Most likely I would not watch this again. If this is Costner's magnum opus, I'm not impressed. Taylor Sheridan does it way better with less money and I'm sure it's crushing Costner's massive ego. There is really no proper end to the film. Without the big "trailer"for the future episodes it would have really fallen flat. The preview at the end felt very odd, like a desperate attempt to make an otherwise uninteresting film more exciting. Unfortunately I didn't really care much about anyone in the film.

Dances with wolves is one of my favourite movies. The story, the music epic, humour, just awesome. Hostiles is also a fantastic one is the most recent westerns done for anyone who has not seen it. Waaayy more subtle. I found this one boring, although the attack by the Indians of the settlement at the start wasn’t too bad. Dialogs were awful and editing is weird.

I thought it was too long to lack a conclusion. I get that it is part of a multi film story, but if you're going to make your audience sit for 3 plus hours, do not leave them hanging. I mean NOT ONE plot thread was tied up. It doesn't make me want to watch chapter 2 so much as it makes me want to throat punch the writer.

Why the lady shot the guy at the outset is just one of several dangling participles contained in the film. I liked the cinematography, a lot of the acting, but the script is disjointed as hell and busier than Godfather III as far as character arcs go, the end result being you can't really find any. And I figured out that the town, Horizon, is the central theme easy enough, it is the name of the movie after-all, but why bury the lead? Why not start out right up front with a scene explaining this is the alpha-and-omega around which the characters converge? A simple bit where some guy buys the land and lays out the plan would have been better than a guy and his son surveying the land, then being buried after they are killed by Indians I suppose by a guy who shows up, well just because I guess. Oh yeah, and nobody called Indians indigenous or aboriginal in the 1860s, ever. Just sayin. I like westerns, I like epics, and I like Costner's willingness to weave together different stories on a grand scale, something with nuance, an art lost in today's world of Barbie, Super Mario Brothers, and comic book or fantasy movies that tell the same story over and over again, sometimes with guys in tights, sometimes with girls being able to beat the crap out of guys twice their size who aren't wearing tights, so I'll stay with this one for part two. But I hope the next movie has a bit more glue and doesn't meander quite so much. If you're going to weave a story, use thread, not spaghetti. And yes, I got what they did at the end, but it felt forced, wasn't set up, and didn't work for me anyway. But that's just me.

It's been a long time since I've seen people walk out of a movie with over an hour still to go. The fact that it was over 100° outside and they still left the air conditioned theater tells you how painful it was to sit and watch this movie! I'm a Kevin Costner fan but this movie is a poor imitation of "How the West was won".

There's 3 totally unrelated stories that could have been told separately in stand alone format. Hayes and the prostitute on the run from Sykes family with the kid. Pioneers navigating the Santa Fe trail, Settlers survivors hunting Indians and the Army storyline. Either make a series or separate films with coherent plot. Not 3h for an intro/set up lol expected more than what it delivered

Nothing shown or told in Part 1, though there's a scene involving bathing and being watched that feels uncomfortably close. There's also an implication that one character is a sexual assault survivor. As we follow these characters into Part 2, there's the possibility that we will see or be told more details. There are also many scenes depicting physical violence toward people of all ages and both genders, so if that's a concern for you, best steer clear.
