I'm one of those aerobatic plane / heli guys who always used to yawn when I saw someone take a Timber out of their vehicle at my field. Then this summer I bought the UMX Timber X after the product video caught my eye. I was so impressed I snagged a 1.2m Timber X the week after. Now at least one of them comes with me every time I go flying.

Finally recovered my Turbo Timber out of the top of a 60ft poplar after being up there for 4 months. That's 4 months during summer in the south, through rainstorms, bad weather, etc. I immediately plugged it back in to a good lipo, and everything worked. I had already written it off in my mind as a complete loss due to the amount of time exposed to the elements with an open nose. Had it not been for the physical damage of a broken motor mount and a broken blade, I literally could have flown it again right then. I bought another after I lost the first one thinking recovery wouldn't happen. 2 Timbers is never a bad thing ;) I'd recommend a Timber to anyone.

The Timber is one of my favorite prop planes to fly, always with me, be it the UMX, the Turbo Timber EVO and when I get a chance, the Timber 110 which is hands down one of the best models I have. Powered with a DLE 55RA. The sad part is that Hanger 9 has discontinued it and parts are hard to find . 😕

Hi, I love my Timber ... it is just fun to fly under any wind conditions. ... but I have a wish for future designs ... the way the rudder is hinged from the vertical stabilizer keeps me from using the Timber from towing ... too much risk to catch the towline with the rudder. Why not having just a vertical hinge ... less risk when towing.

The Timber 1.5 was sort of my 3rd plane. After the Apprentice S and struggling more than I should have. (I was on that “Crash Course”, no pun intended, trying to figure batteries, chargers, transmitter, control arms, etc.) A couple of things I skipped and planned to learn later was Center of Gravity and DR and Expo. So I flew unbalanced and at 100%, no expo.Thankfully the Timber 1.5 had sturdy landing gear, with flaps wouldn’t Tip Stall. Somehow four years later, the Timber 1.5 is still in one piece and converted to a very good float plane. Once I got the Turbo Timber the 1.5 really got lost in the shuffle. I think the Timber 1.5 was the perfect 2nd plane at an RC Park. I think I got the Timber UMX first because I had a soccer complex a mile from the house and needed hours of flying, time to figure out the transmitter and how to deal with wind. I can’t say enough good things about those first 4 Eflite planes. The only thing I did right the first 2 1/2 years was pick great planes. All were Eflite taildraggers.

Sorry to post a second time on the same subject but the Timber has always been about STOL and versatility. I really think you could do an amazing biplane. Picture this: a 1.2m span biplane in the same classic green or red of the Timber X. It can run on 3s or 4s and has navigation lights and maybe even telemetry. Nice clear screen and possibly head and shoulders of a pilot. The battery is top front loading like a UMX Waco; it could even have a radial style cowl and end up a modern take on a classic design or retain the classic Timber tail and go for a more contempory look to the front end. Even though its a bipe i am sure you could still make it easily identifiable as part of the Timber range. Its STOL capable with decent sized tyres to enable less than perfect runways to be used. It has the Timber flight envelope we all know and love and on one hand can fly 'scale' slow fly in safe but still be primarily an aerobatic, 3d capable plane. The Safe programming will be so solid that an intermediate pilot should easily be able to fly it. In fact knowing you guys you could probably set a new standard in biplanes with this one and create the best flying, easiest to live with biplane ever made and at the same time expand the Timber into a whole new direction with all the potential for other bipe versions. Quite a design challenge but if you can pull this off you'll nail this plane firmly in RC flying history.

@HorizonHobbyProducts
@HorizonHobbyProducts 4 жыл бұрын
A clear cockpit adds complexity, weight and cost so it will not be seen in the 1.5m and smaller sized Timber models (in order to maintain the excellent durability, performance and value they offer now), however, we do have have other STOL-capable "scale" alternatives with clear cockpits including the E-flite Maule M-7 1.5m (www.horizonhobby.com/SearchDisplay?searchTerm=efl_maule&categoryId=&sourceDomain=&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&pageSize=40&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&searchTermScope=2&showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&sourceDomain=&pageView=) and the E-flite Air Tractor 1.5m (www.horizonhobby.com/SearchDisplay?searchTerm=efl_tractor&categoryId=&sourceDomain=&storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&pageSize=40&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&resultCatEntryType=2&searchTermScope=2&showResultsPage=true&searchSource=Q&sourceDomain=&pageView=)

There is a inherent problem with the motor mount breaking off the fuselage with 4s power though...so if your going to fly on 4s reinforcements are advised on the nose
@HorizonHobbyProducts
@HorizonHobbyProducts 4 жыл бұрын
Definitely not an inherent problem :) We and thousands of others have never had the motor mount break unless the airplane has been landed hard, nosed over and/or has been crashed before (which can damage/weaken the mount). The mount will never break off the fuselage when the model has not been damaged and when using the recommended batteries.

@@HorizonHobbyProducts hey look man I'm not saying it's not a awesome plane...because it is!! But yes there is a issue with the nose under a higher power source
@chrismitchell5260
@chrismitchell5260 4 жыл бұрын
@@HorizonHobbyProducts the foam around the mount is really thin....and you are right to the fact that with a hard landing or over time this gets fatigued and will fail...all I'm saying is that with some extra reinforcement this just makes an already awesome plane even better...
@HorizonHobbyProducts
@HorizonHobbyProducts 4 жыл бұрын
@@chrismitchell5260 We've sold many thousands of Turbo Timbers and Timber Xs, many/most of which are flown with 4S batteries, and we haven't heard of any such issue being widespread (and definitely not unless the airplane has been landed hard, nosed over and/or has been crashed before which damaged/weakened the mount). Take a look at the hundreds/thousands of videos of Timbers out there being flown on 4S batteries, the reviews on our web site, web forums, etc. and you won't see significant reports of the same. BTW, please also be sure your prop is balanced...a prop that is out of balance can also result in a broken motor mount and other damage over time!

Oh, I could use a few more Timbers! Waiting to get the giant ARF w/a twin engine.. "TWIN-BER" sure would be cool, more stable in windy days, (the Beaver turned forth the development of the Twin Otter..) A biplane like the Multiplex Rockstar I haven't gotten yet..would look cool as a very different bipe! I'm slowly getting parts assembled for a day/nite (slow) SUPER STOL Timber, 6.5" mains, 1.5" new tail wheel assembly, switched vertical spot light, same I want to "de-turbo" a Turbo Timber into an upgraded ORIGIONAL TIMBER, with metal servos & newer 3 blade power, smaller pneumatic tundra wheels, new full strobe high vis dusk/night kit & 5000/3s battery&call it my (fast) "Timber XP" I have over 300 hours flying my Timbers, 130 of which @ nite, 50 or so hours on skis in winter.. I think it is a fantastic plane, I can put an Onyx 5000 3s in it and fly T&go's for 45 minutes! on a Admiral 3300 3s I regularly get 30 minutes of STOL/ T&go's.. 10° slotted flap slow cruise at low power, make the most out of climb rate @ full power then cut it back to conserve battery..the climb prop will get it up to only 45mph on a 3s, so no need to hurry, it won't! That's why I'll have a separate 60mph+ Timber! These planes are capable of going deep into the STOL, ACRO, & pattern niches with that word "VERSATILITY" in all three sizes! Lol..You'll want a "forest" of Timbers like me! Thank you so much everyone @ Horizion Hobby!
