After 5 years of practicing intermittent fasting or time-restricted eating, intense exercise in a fasted state, and eating an extremely low-calorie diet I have developed hypothalamic amenorrhea (HA) as a result. HA occurs when we consistently underfuel our body's daily caloric needs. You may start to experience extreme coldness, irritability, anxiety, fatigue, frequent urination, constipation, & bloating. And as the name suggests, you also lose your period and stop ovulating. In this video, Dr. Nicola Rinaldi tackles the myths and misconceptions around extreme leanness and fitness.
Please leave comments. I love hearing from you guys and learning new helpful ways to make this lifestyle more efficient!

Why are you referring to 'people' who have periods/ menopause etc instead of saying 'women who have periods/menopause', etc?

I didn't realize specification was needed lol

@@NaturallyKarli It wasn't you so much but more your guest who was doing it. Saying 'people' instead of just saying women and men seems to be a thing now amongst some people. It's much easier to just say women and men than 'people who menstruate/have wombs' and 'people with testicles', but your guest went out of her way to do just that. Thin end of the wedge.

@@StopLuPuTi That’s stupid because women are the ONLY ones who can get periods or menopause!

Amazing! I too am on the WFPB way of eating, have been for a long time. When I take things to the extreme and no NO FAT for weeks at a time to shed a few lingering pounds, and this includes fasted workouts, my period goes haywire! I feel relieved to understand why.

Ok, you were underrating for years, doing Intermittent fasting and over exercising probably - of course you lost your period! What does it have to do with well fed person who fasts 16-18 hours a day, and not killing it in the gym? How humans survived and procriated for thousands of years with unreliable random access to food , periods of fasting and generally being flexible? We didn’t had guaranteed access to food to eat often. I am sorry but whatever this doctor is saying is not supported by the human history and evolution.

This was hard for me to wrap my mind around as well. Dr. Nicola sites several studies you can reference in both her book and during the video that may peak your curiosity.
