It was a pleasure to be your guest, Karli. 🤩 For the ladies who listened to this talk: you can have an anovulatory cycle. A bleeding without ovulation. The approach is the same if the underling cause is HA. Take your female heath seriously, ladies. 🥰

Justina is AMAZING and I'm so grateful for her female perspective in the WFPB world. She had been amazing helping me accept that it's OK to be a higher body weight than I'm mentally comfortable with, if it means that my body is truly healthy! And yes yes, such an important message she reminds us that it's OK to add some FATS back. I am absolutely LOVING having avocado back in my life yet I feared it for so long. I also agree with Justina's advise to enjoy more starchy and moderate fats, but not go overboard. The high fat, eat junk message that is preached to restore females hormones is so unhelpful. We have spent so long escaping the pleasure trap, no point inviting it back! Keep working at it Karli - we're all cheering you on to find your energy and vitality again

Those are wonderful takeaways, Sandy. And thank you for your kind words. Justina has been very supportive during this difficult journey. She has been the voice of reason amongst all the diet messaging out there. I will definitely continue having her as a guest. She is incredibly knowledgable and our expertise compliment each other well.

Amazing interview and information ❤ thank you both! Yes, you are very brave to share, Karli. I'm sure lots of women will benefit from all of this knowledge and wisdom. Personally, when I began a WFPB diet over 3 years ago, I believe I was following information best suited to middle aged or menopausal women, not for young menstruating active women who are already at a healthy BMI, and so I followed all the "rules" and ate super low calorie density in the name of health and lost my period, only for a few months but regained it once I was consuming enough energy for my body. I'm much more balanced these days and feel great listening to my body and not trying to obtain the lowest weight possible because it's not sustainable, and I actually feel better overall with my healthy weight. Your skin is absolutely gorgeous, Justina!!! It's the star of the interview 😘 Thank you both so much 💓

Justina is fantastic, I've been admiring her work and the advice she gives for years, Dr Lisle holds her in very high regard too. She is a specialist in binge eating and has personal experience too so she understands what we are going through, it's great to have her on your channel, Karli, I hope you are better and thank you both for being so honest. This video has really got me thinking because I'm 57 so post-menopause (actually I had a dream menopause thanks to being WFPB), but when I was younger restricting and starving myself on tiny portions I often missed my period for months, but because I have always had very heavy, horrible periods and because I've never wanted children, I was fine with that. I wonder if I'd have my periods eating my very low fat WFPB diet, probably not as I'm now very slim, which makes me feel great by the way, I am petite and being this weight really suits me. When I was younger and restricting on a SAD diet, I never over-exercised at the gym but I definitely over-walked, disguising this as wanting to be a "London explorer". I've never liked high impact exercise and I now do gentle stretching/strengthening/weight exercises twice a week, never on an empty tummy. These days lots of men and women are obsessed about going to the gym and building muscle, I like being toned but not overdoing it, funnily enough I felt bad about not doing more until I watched this video. I am aware I eat fewer starches and beans and healthy fats than I should and I am gradually introducing more into my diet but I have no intention to put on weight and I would caution others about not "going all in" as it's so easy to go overboard and regain all the weight we might have spent years losing - several WFPB vloggers have done that, this should not be normalised as it's a symptom we are doing this lifestyle the wrong way. Our bodies and minds can deceive us when it comes to hunger and listening to hunger/fullness cues, the more one eats the easier it is to overeat, and as Justine said, nobody needs to go to McDonalds or eat junk to get her period back.

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. These topics are controversial at best. I would encourage everyone to do their own research before making any drastic behavioral changes that may impact their health.

Dr Brook Goldner's husband, who is a nutritional scientist, did a study and found out that having a bit of fat in our WFPB diet actually helps weight loss, while those in the study that stuck to a very low fat or no fat diet found it harder to shed weight.

I know that you've reduced or eliminated your exercise and you talked about having to change all your daily habits that you thought were healthy, but ended up being detrimental. I find my daily exercise, at least 1hr, to be essential to maintaining a calm state of mind and general day in day out well being. What do you recommend for maintaining peace and calm when you have to reduce or eliminate exercise?

Low intensity walking is a great way of calming the mind without causing disruptions to our hormones.

I love walking and do so every day, but in addition to things like running, biking, light weights, yoga, stacking logs, gardening, etc. I like to move my body as much as possible. I have a hard time being satisfied with just a walk, unless it is quite long. @@sandypluss5017

There is no reason to reduce or eliminate any of your current activities unless you are experiencing symptoms of low energy availability (LEA) or hypothalamic amenorrhea. Currently, I continue walking and yoga but it's very hard for me not to overdo it. I also love to read, meditate, journal (not as much as I probably should), and spend time with friends and family to maintain a sense of peace. I hope our message in this video was clear- there is absolutely nothing wrong with exercise as long as you are healthy and properly fueled. In fact, I encourage it tremendously as a means of maintaining our health, strength, and independence as we age.

Thank you Karli. Watching your videos of what you eat, I thought you were properly fueled! Were you hungry or satisfied with what you were eating? I never go hungry and have energy for all my activities, so I am probably good. @@NaturallyKarli
