Wish I could give you a hug. I’ve tried to follow a low fat WFPD 100% and what I’ve found is that if you are already at a normal weight you definitely need to eat more than you would think. Then I started exercising and you need to eat even more food. I can’t eat that much bulk. I’ve had to introduce more fats like tofu and olive oil to get enough calories. I prefer a healthy vegan diet to a rigid wfpb because I can exercise more and still have energy. Dates, flax seed, olive oil, tofu are healthy enough for me even though leading wfpb docs don’t encourage them. Clean peanut butter is a good addition too, I’m just not a huge fan. Nori is a fantastically balanced food as well with tons of great minerals and it’s not recommended enough. You’ll heal and find the right balance for yourself because you’re smart and strong. Dr. Brooke Goldner is a very levelheaded WFPB MD I’ve gravitated towards. You’re also a fantastic mom so please forgive yourself. We do our best and can’t be perfect. You deserve grace.

Karli, I am just seeing this...thank you for posting this...being vulnerable like this is a beautiful gift, and I hope it helps you and everyone else who sees this video. When we have fears about health conditions, struggle w/ chronic anxiety, or feel things spiraling out of control, sometimes (and it may depend on someone's personality or history of what they've been through), we can hyper focus on the things we can control (like diet and exercise) to the point of it becoming obsessive or unhealthy (mentally or physically). You healed yourself from a massive sugar addiction...that's amazing! You did lots of research into a WFPB vegan diet which was empowering and great! And I have too for my health issues. Sometimes tho we can take sound, evidence-based, scientific nutritional info from the plant based doctors and cherry pick certain info, take it to the extreme, and lose our balance. I am a bit of a health and nutrition nerd and follow all the WFPB docs you mentioned + Brenda Davis. It's an overwhelming amount of info, lol! Over time and w/ experimentation, I've realized that I had to find what works best for my body. I definitely need whole starches for energy, but too much starch & beans stops up my digestion. A balanced combo of both raw and cooked veggies, a little fruit, greens, beans, whole starches (mostly gf oats, sweet potatoes, gold potatoes, black rice) works best for me, along with plenty of water. I also have Celiac and other autoimmune issues. Listening to our bodies is so important. For example, no matter how much I wish I could enjoy green tea everyday, I'm intolerant of caffeine. Anyway, so many people don't try to educate themselves about health, so it is good to gather information and experiment to find what works best for our unique bodies. I've always loved how PlantifulKiki said "make it about health and not the skinny." If health is our goal, it includes a nutritious diet and exercise, but also proper rest, relaxation, play, love & connection with others, and finding healthy ways to manage stress and anxiety. Mind-Body-Spirit in balance. I love how Dr Dean Ornish and his wife Ann say the 4 pillars of health are nutrition, movement/exercise, managing stress, and connection with others. Our journeys are ongoing, and we go through so many things in life. At times we are in survival mode and desperately trying to hold on or heal. Please give yourself compassion for that! You mentioned regret around the pressure you put on your family at times...we all learn as we go. None of us can change the past or ever be perfect. I too am trying to do my best to take lessons learned and let go of regret. And if relationships suffered bc of our past actions, we can explain, take responsibility, and apologize but also extend love to ourselves and others. This will be so healing to everyone! Regret only drags us down when we truly deserve to heal and have joy and LIFE! And think what a wonderful role model you are for your daughter when you show her through example how not to beat herself up or keep herself stuck in regret from the past, but instead have compassion and caring love for herself. When we have compassion for ourselves we can extend it to others. This helps us move forward to a place of love, joy, and freedom...when regret is not holding us down we can BREATHE and truly live life today, for ourselves and with those we love.

Wow, that is a powerful message. I can’t thank you enough for relating to my situation with your own experience in similar circumstances. There is a lot of wisdom in what you wrote and I have great respect and gratitude for all of it. I appreciate your kind words. I am doing much better now 5 months into this journey. Many lessons learned and regrets overcome. I completely agree with Dr. Ornish’s emphasis on connection and stress management. Kiki’s message is important too. It’s funny bc I too follow the- eat for health and the weight management will come as a happy side effect. The only problem was that I truly thought what I was doing was healthy lol!

So very brave and thank you for sharing. I think the massive amounts of information we have (good/bad) from so many sources can become so overwhelming. Adding misinformation and outside pressure can just be a nightmare. Trying to do the next best “healthy” thing is exhausting and impossible. Take your time healing you from the inside out. You’re so strong - tacking this health battle is so doable! You can do this! Also taking care of your mental health should be the top priority. I can visibly see your guilt and sadness. I had a eating disorder for many years. It started with over exercising and obsessing over food. Then I got into extreme dieting. I had a conversion to the catholic faith and while in my journey I found that my disorder was a disorder and needed His healing. Through Gods grace I'm finding freedom from those heavy chains. I have to be careful because I can get obsessive so I'm aware of myself but seeing that God became the bread of life means food is important and not something to be afraid about and to trust in Him. Thank you for sharing this story. I know it's hard you are beautiful and worth more than a perfect body image.

Hi Karli, thank you for your honesty and clarifying this condition, I've been WFPB oil-free for over 3 years and have very little energy but this could also be due to my age, difficult stressful life (unfortunately inescapable), etc. I know that putting on weight and not fitting into my clothes would make me even more stressed, inactive and unhappy as reaching my goal weight and maintaining it after decades of struggles is a lifetime achievement for me and I know that just being a few lbs heavier does not suit my frame and appearance. At 57 I obviously don't know if my periods would have stopped, however my menopause has been great and I exercise moderately at home twice a week. It's a balancing act. I blame the stress for the difficulty concentrating and lack of creativity, not the WFPB clean lifestyle.

Probably you don’t get enough choline, which contains in fatty plant food. You can try to add lectine. If you already have big deficiency of that, it’s better to buy Citicoline. It will quickly recover your brain. It is absolutely naturally

You are a beautiful soul. thank you for sharing your experiences. I gave myself a hormone imbalance to. I got so obsessed with shrinking myself that I couldn’t even enjoy the body I live in. I’m in recovery to right now but from an eating disorder. It gave me irritable bowl syndrome. I almost died from all the restricting and then I would binge on “bad food” and throw it up. I also was obsessed with exercising. I use to be obese at 280lbs and I lost weight (120lbs) eating healthy and walking. It took me 2 years to accomplish. then I became so fearful of becoming fat again that I just spiraled. I relate so much to the guilt you express to because I couldn’t be the mom my kids needed because I constantly obsessed over my weight. Karli, so sorry you have been through the wringer with these issues. It really is easy to get on board too much with certain diets. I learned the hard way by passing out on a long bike ride while intermittent fasting too close too my eating window. In retrospect I thought “what was I thinking doing such a strenuous activity on an empty stomach?” It’s all too easy to become consumed by our desire to be at an “ attractive “ weight. Just last Friday I decided to accept an invitation to meet my girlfriends out to dinner instead of staying home so I can control my food quality. I thought years from now I will wonder why I didn’t socialize more instead of focusing so much on my diet. I am still primarily WFPB because I have had positive results but I do break it because I find it hard to remain strict all the time after a lifetime of being a meat eater. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge Karli.

I really admire you for being so open about this ❤ I hope you will feel better soon 🙏❤ Im also very strict about my own diet, but not as strict as you were I think ❤

Balance! Something we all strive for. And yes, some of us are much better at it than others. This experience has definitely forced me to be more cognizant of self-induced imbalances 👍

Thanks so much for posting! I’ve always loved your videos. I totally understand this journey that you went on and I’ve been on similar ones myself several times. (I love learning more about health but it is easy to take it too far, especially when other areas of life feel out of control sometimes.) Thanks so much!!! ❤❤ you’ve given me a lot to think about. Thanks so much for sharing so courageously. 🥰

You have fantastic words of wisdom. If only more people could be so bold: ) Thank you for your kind words, as well.

Thanks Cecilia! And I have always enjoyed reading your comments. I am very grateful for this community. These issues would be quite isolating otherwise.

Does anybody else falls asleep straight after eating our high-volume WFPB food? Or is it just me getting old?

Sometimes I get lethargic if my meals are too big. I’ve found it helpful to eat more frequent smaller meals

This resonated with me on many levels. Our food journey has many parallels. I transitioned out of my WFPB diet and embraced a meat centered approach with the help of a doctor. I’m no longer existing, but thriving. I weight train 2x a wk and walk. No longer spend hours on food prep/obsessing. Thank you for sharing and being so vulnerable
