I like the Hornady frontier 5.56 68gr match. It seems to be more accurate than the 223

Hornady Frontier 55gr match shot very well for me.

My rifle likes the 5.56 frontier 68 grain match ammo I haven't tried the 223 designated loading
@andrewmconrad4 ай бұрын
I wonder if the difference has to do with the higher pressure is the 5.56 cartridge along with slightly more powder 🤔

For those prices, I'd recommend AAC's precision line, their 77 OTM's have been tack drivers for $0.60/round
@andrewmconrad4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I'm 100% going to pick some of that up at that price. I liked how much the recoil decreased with 75gr versus the 55gr. Could be a game changer

It's Good stuff, I love the 68gr, 75 gr, 55gr rocks. I think it's the shooter & junk rifle.in this case.

I've got stories about Frontier... 1-7, 20" had their 5.56, 62gr, spire points coming apart in flight. 1-7, 20" had 55gr match turning into birdshot out of the barrel. 1-9, 20" worked ok... But neither 1-7 nor 1-9 20" would shoot the 68gr "match" accurately, 4" - 5" groupings. PMC X-Tac 62gr green tip, for perspective, would group to 1.5" - 2" from both rifles.

Looking forward to trying some of this x-tac!

Try some PMC X-tac 5.56 I've had good luck with it being accurate. You can normally find it around 50 cents a round give or take. 👍🇺🇸

I have some, will give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion

I have never used the frontier due to hearing quite a few people complaining about the lack of accuracy. I 2nd the pmc. Its very consistent.

I have a lot of that x-tac. Will definitely give it a try
@Wildwestwrangler3 ай бұрын
I don't like the pmc. It's always and I mean always loaded to the lighter side

Keep in mind 223 boxes are listing a 24in proof barrel. Not a 16 or 20in. 5.56 is a 20in proof barrel.

55gr hornady match is great out my rifle. Now, shooting the 68gr stuff was horrible. and if you look at the 68gr bullets the hollow points are inconsistent.

Interesting. I think I only bought one box of the hornady frontier match. But I'll never buy that again. I'll buy regular frontier just for plinking if it's cheap enough, but not for competition

Different ammo shoots differently out of each gun. I had a buddy’s gun that would get 1.5 with Hornady black 223 75gr but with 62gr fmj non steel it was under an inch. I have a noveske 16in chf that hates anything heavier than 55gr
@ExplorinInTheWoods3 ай бұрын
The 75gr is pretty good for frontier. I’ve never shot their 68gr. Their 223 55gr bthp has been accurate. Try that frontier in different guns.

Hornady black, and this ammo is good. If you were hunting with your AR-15, then it would absolutely be worth it.

And this is exactly why I love making the videos. I'm just a regular guy and I'm glad to help someone else out. Thanks!

You don't use a bipod with that free floated handguard? You can put the bipod out at the end and use a squeeze bag under the back and be very steady. Also I've never tried the frontier 5.56 in anything shorter than 16 inches. I don't mess with the 223. It doesn't seem as accurate as the 5.56 in the frontier. My saint with a vortex strike eagle 1-6 will shoot around moa with the 5.56 frontier 68gr and it kicks butt with the Norma 223 69gr golden match. 5rds is about .75 moa.

Well, this is my competition rifle for the Patriot Games. Not exactly precision shooting, so I don't need a precision rifle, but if I can tighten it up with what I have I'm going to. We're not able to use supportive devices like a bag or a bipod, plus our breathing is heavy and our HR's are above 150 when we shoot, so the complete opposite of precision shooting 😂. I don't typically see fiocci ammo on the shelves here, but I'm hearing things about the sierra match king 69gr's, so I'll look for some of that and pick it up
@Wildwestwrangler3 ай бұрын
I have a springfield saunt with a vortex strike eagle 1-6 so it's plenty accurate.

It's quality ammo I have a hard time believing it's trash I think your rifle just doesn't like it.
@eee2115Ай бұрын
You said the gun isn't built for precision, yet you are trashing this ammo saying its not precise. A bad barrel can't shine with the best of the ammo out there. Put a $700 Proof, Bartlein, Kreiger barrel and see what it does. If the Frontier shoots bad in a high end barrel, then we can say its trash. Even then, it could be "the barrel doesn't like that ammo"...rather than the ammo being trash. I haven't had luck with any ammo on paper with my 16" no name barrel. I guess all that ammo is trash.
