Ah, 1982. I was 17 & wondering whether my mates & I would be called up to fight in the Falklands War. This catalogue was one from my railway modelling "wilderness years (or more precisely decades)", so it's very interesting to see what I missed. 100% agree with your thoughts on the D49 class. They look great & my example is a excellent runner. The MR 4P 2-6-4 is a lovely loco too. I recently bought one for £40. Your knowledge is awesome. PS: I do my best to write my comments in the King's English!

Hi Stephen, I think this or 1981 was the last catalogue I had before leaving the hobby. I've still not bought a new one since. The new ones are definitely lacking in charm compared to the older ones. Cheers Rick
@stephendavies6949Ай бұрын
@@wellchuffedrailways Yes, I agree. They've lost their class. The newer ones are purely functional.

Hello Rick and Pauline. Great video as always. 1982 I was 2, my favourite is the APT train I really regret selling mine. All the best
@wellchuffedrailways2 ай бұрын
Hi Deano, it's surprising how few APTs we see for sale at the shows and fairs. I have one but it's a scruffy example and takes up an awful lot of track space cheers for watching Rick

I recently tracked one of these catalogues down. My brother used to have it back in the day, and i was forever “borrowing” it so i could hide under my bed cover, with a torch. Dreaming of the layout I would have one day. The photo’s of diorama’s rather than just static product, set my mind alight.

Hornby catalogues always sold the model railway dream not just the models. Today's catalogues just can't match them, of course that's because they are targeting adults now. Thanks for watching Rick

Hi, great review of a great year of superb Hornby models at the time, I had the Red breakdown crane for years but as soon as I saw the yellow one I had to have it, I have the mk1 crew coach and the track cleaner all in departmental yellow, it’s great to see the Zero 1 system with all 3 phases in one picture, I have the complete range tucked away in my loft, I must get it out and make sure it’s all ok, I really wanted to build a layout for years, hopefully my next house move will be to a property that will give me the amount of space to do this and build my dream layout and get trains running, thanks for sharing.
@wellchuffedrailways2 ай бұрын
Good luck with the layout, I do prefer the yellow crane but my favourite would have to be the weathered Thomas one! All the best Rick
@StormmyStormmyАй бұрын
@@wellchuffedrailways I’ve never been a fan of the weathered look, I prefer the pristine look but seeing so realistic models has that look, I guess when the trains and rolling stock were first built they were pristine then they went to work and got very dirty.

Recently found your channel. But really enjoying catching up. I enjoyed the explanations from the brochure. Loved the mask prompt. Very funny. Well done on a lovely set of programmes. I don’t model, but love train travel. I live in Germany and get to visit the world famous model exhibition in Hamburg a few times. Take care and I’ll keep catching up. Thanks

Hi Nigel, glad you found the channel and are enjoying it. We put a video out every Sunday morning and occasionally an extra one mid-week. The mask was an unused fancy dress item and I'm glad we found a use for it! Thanks for watching and all the best Rick

Hi Bobby, Pauline and Rick, could we start by refreshing your title to ‘The Bobby & Lola Show’. Another issue with the Task Force Set was the box car was American type. My Winston Churchill spamcan had smoke it never really worked properly, I overflowed the oil, it was almost impossible to fill and once you opening the little plastic tube it ran everywhere. Harry

1982, I was a much older young man of 12 then🤣 I think it was the year I went to the alternative music scene, bought my first Cure album "17 seconds". Just went to my first open air concert at Werchter, where The Cure played and the crowd went mad. The Cure wasn't allowed to play a few bis numbers by the following main act Robert Palmer, so they ended with there ever time hit "A forest" playing it in an astonishing 9min. long version that went through marrow and bone where at the end Robert Smith shouted "F**k Robert Palmer". kzbin.info/www/bejne/iYnKf2BtdpaAjq8si=OghtZumgTHlgiIMd And when Robert Palmer came on, the main crowd just left the terrain, a wow moment in rock history. Personally I don't like the quality of Hornby models that much at that period, it looks all a bit to the cheap side with plastic wheels etc., while the others where doing much better quality.

Cheers for that Danny, what a great song and by the end of it I'd forgotten all about the catalogue. Well that's one of the reasons for these videos, they are all about the memories and what happened to us in those far away times. 1982 was the year I started at the big school and to be honest I have very few happy memories of it. I was glad to leave and start living a far more diverse life away from the constraints of a flawed education system. All the best Rick
