Has anyone fitted a TTS Sound to this loco before? Did I go wrong somewhere? Also, whats causing the stuttering when it ran fine on DC?

Check out cv150, it changes the motor algorithm. I added a TTS sound decoder to my Class A4 (R3737), and I had to do some adjustments to the speaker fitting in the tender also - known issue Hornby TTS decoder speakers don't easily fit in DCC ready steam loco tenders.

Try Kampala Road he fixed a Class 31 TTS with the same problem Regards Alan

Thanks Mike, at least its good to know I'm not alone in finding them tricky to fit into locos they were designed for! A couple of people have suggested changing CV 150 to adjust the motor algorithm, it seems everything today is at the mercy of an algorithm!

Hi, I fitted TTS in 3 Maunsel S15's. Two J15's (very similar to your J36) Two K1's. One Large Prairie and one diesel. Some are strait forward and just need plug in. Others like the J15 even need part of the tender interior removed. Adjusting CV's is not a difficult task. Just do it 'on the main' and you observe & hear the result of changes immediately. Every motor reacts differently even when you use 'high end ' decoders like ESU or Zimo. But to my experience the TTS do well and with some minor 'tweaking' they perform as good as high end decoders without the endless number of CV's these come with. For the price they are just fine. A decoder that is also a good choice is the Soundtraxx Econami 200 UK sounds. Double price - very good quality. And after all DIY is part of this wonderful hobby ! And first came the loco - then the sound. Success !

Thanks - I've used the Econami on my Bachmann 4MT - check out the video here and see what you think? kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaPZcp6Vjcehfdk

Great video - thanks for showing how to do it

It's was actually quite tricky. If I was doing it again I'd definitely swap the speaker out for a different one.

I would suggest Peters Spares - but there are lots of similar plugs/sockets on ebay too.

Hi, I have tried fitting a decoder to two west country class loco , I m having the same problem. Out comes the file. Thanks for your video. , Yes I have the same problem with on engine , ok in dc but stutters in dcc when coder is in. Have tried a second decoder in the same engine and still stutters. But the second decoder works okay in the other loco.

Check out my other video on the sound fitted J36 - it might be that some CV changes will help improve the running.

Where do you get those loco mats? I’ve installed the same sound decoder and no sound. Do I need to setup the sound or is it ore loaded?
@MessingaboutwithModels3 жыл бұрын
The sound is pre-loaded, and it should work straight out of the box. F1 will switch it on, then you can use the other functions as and when required (eg whistles, coal shovelling etc).

The Steam TTS decoders seem to be very tricky compare to the diesels!
@MessingaboutwithModels3 жыл бұрын
I hope not! I've got one I'm putting in my J83 and another which was originally going into the Standard 4MT, but which now I'm going to try in the Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 that I've got.

Hornby, in my experience never produced a tender or loco that would accept easily their ridiculous speaker. I have always replaced the speaker with sugar cube varieties
@MessingaboutwithModels3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. I just find it frustrating that they provide something that doesn't work in what they intended it for.
