His left hand wanted to reach for the wound, but couldn't do it because more bullets prevented him from doing so. His twitching is evidence of many bullet holes in an entire MP40 magazine. Unfortunately, he could no longer fire. He didn't get around to it anymore. As befits a German boot soldier, he falls to the ground and rolls over his wound. His service in uniform is over. His comrade on the right charges to fire but can't hold his SMG anymore either. The impact of the bullets in his chest spins him backwards before he is forced to his knees. He can only mark his position with his marching boots before he will remain silent forever. Formed into a death star, the 5 comrades are lying next to each other, boots on boots. What handsome young men lie there united and well-behaved together. So much erotic beauty and sadness at the same time. Your equipment and boots must be returned in excellent condition. What a site for corpse scavengers. 5 pairs of leather marching boots ready to steal. But one comrade is still writhing in pain. He's trying to turn to put his gut wound into the ground. One last try not to bleed to death. With his high leather boots he tries to turn. But then we shot at this helpless young German soldier like he was a dead dog. He stretched out again in pain. Our comrade wanted to live on, fight on in his beautiful gear. He was literally butchered. But he also secretly hoped for such a death. Now he has entered, with full force and bravery. I envy such great men who want to die in boots and steel helmets. What a great film excerpt, which shows the whole soldier's devotion to war and dying in all its beauty. I can't get enough of this hot scene. A dream......ahhhhhhhhh

And with a MP40 with a very full Magazine! Mind you, Sylvia Koscina was very distracting...Hoepfully no Kubelwagen's were harmed during the making of the film, and that crazy kid killing his own kid too!

And again these children and the rabble without proper uniforms. I can hardly stand it that so well trained and young soldiers are simply killed by them. I just say no to that. I feel so sorry for the boy at 0:18. He was so happy to have been drafted into the Wehrmacht and to wear the beautiful German uniforms. And then suddenly a knife, without seeing it, in his young unharmed back. You can't kill a German soldier more meanly and brutally. I cry when I see this. His blood-soaked marching boots can still be seen lying in the ditch and his arms are hanging lifelessly from the sandbags. But as we know, young German soldiers have to reckon with everything, unfortunately. Powerless, he has to face reality. Like Jesus on the cross, he surrenders to his enemy as if to say. "Look at me in my fancy uniform and boots, I'm not ashamed to take the blame for my great uniform. Kill me if you have to. I'm ready!" He surrendered to death without groaning or screaming, as befits a brave young soldier. He will lose his boots, gear and uniform, but the spirit of soldier death will survive and spread to other soldiers. His comrade calls him by his name "Hans, Hans". He wanted to check on his comrade and became a victim himself. Young Hans, however, is stuck with his young face in the dirt, his uniform soaked in blood down to his boots. Where is his seamstress who sewed his beloved uniform for him. Where is the shoemaker who fitted his marching boots for him. Where are the many hands that worked for this one soldier. Where is his dear mother who gave birth to him with pain and raised him with all her love. This partisan's brutal murder wiped out all their work in seconds. His life is now glued to this killer's knife.

Yes, what a disgrace for these troops to be taken down by mere children, a woman (a German doctor no less!) and a lone American soldier who has no scruples, evidenced by his brutal attack on young Hans at 0:18. His life snuffed out in an instant, the knife twisted into his back with such force that his body sagged and fell dead to the floor in a matter of seconds. Life gone, just like that. All that finery bloodied, spattered with gore, and then they come forward and mock him in death. Shameful! Like you say though, he was brave and took it well. What more can you ask of a brave soldat than this? And soon the terrible news will be communicated to his kith and kin and grieve they will. And for his kamerad, who came only to help but was whacked over the head for his trouble, then even more brutally hit again. And then so many others mown down at the dam, mercilessly machine gunned by that savage kid with so much hate in his heart. How did it ever come to this?!

Poor Hans must have been stunned when he was stabbed by a sharp knife and knew that the moment he gave his life for the uniform and boots was coming. Because this is what every soldier knows ------ They will fall to the ground for the country at any time like a expendable material. 3:51 At least he and these our brothers were killed by a man. Man to man, they weren't too shame in their last moments as soldiers. Although the bloody smell of these soldiers might invite stray dogs to devour them or they might be discarded in the woods and their strong bodies will slowly rot into fertilizer. But this is also what possible to happen to all soldiers fighting on the battlefield.

At 3:51 this was a real fight between soldiers and you can ask for no more than that. I don't think there's any danger of them not being given a "proper" military send-off as they are not behind the lines and their comrades will come along and give them the respect they deserve. Gone but not forgotten!

Don't you just like how at 1:30 the proud german soldiers leaning on the rail looking down on the right side of the screen 'go down like flies' as 'Nico' behind the large barrel shaped copper tank, catches them in the 'Beaton Zone' of his MP40. He doesn't even have to wave his SMG left to right, just hold it straight, 'point and shoot' and watch them 'collapse' in perfect timing.

I've never heard of this great movie thanks for posting then again I was just born in 1970 so that explains why I've never heard of it this pretty good movie would be the same age as me at 52 years old . Kind of messed up though that he shot Carlo but then again Carlo just stood there making himself known for the Germans to shoot him even though the other guy did it. Anyway if you can please post more scenes if you can PS it may not be realistic but neither are the star wars overrated movies. This movie hornets nets is a breath of fresh air . Not sure why anybody would complain about this movie
