I think Budokai, and the Tenkaichi franchise were decent fighters. I would love a Burst Limit 2 the spiritual successor to the Budokai games. Raging Blast 3 the spiritual successor to the Tenkaichi games. The pattern with these are decent fighters, either we need to compensate, and cut the roster to stop clone character, or give games a long development to do a big roster with everyone being unique. We need more good Dragon Ball games like Dragon Ball FighterZ. FighterZ is the first good Dragon Ball game.

The Sailor Moon arcade beat 'em up, Jump Super Stars + Jump Ultimate Stars, Super Dragon Ball Z, Mazinger Z arcade, the various Gundam 2v2 games for the Sega Naomi arcade system, and Bleach: Blades of Fate are the games I can think of off the top of my head that are legitimately good games based on anime. There's also Sailor Moon S for the Super Famicom, although that's definitely one you gotta spend time with - and have a very flexible mentality on the idea of competitive soundness - before you can really appreciate it. And there's Azumanga Daioh Puzzle Bobble, but that's just Puzzle Bobble with Azumanga Daioh characters, so I dunno if it really counts.

Budokai Tenkaichi 3 was awesome, I loved the fact that the game had an absurd amount of characters too, including absolutely pointless ones. I also preferred that open/destructible arena for a DBZ game, compared to the 2D style (well at least compared the Budokai games, I haven't really played any recent fighters).

No budokai and xenoverse where always garbage, tenkaichi 3 is still gold because of his fighting system. Budokai has the same animations for all characters it is a joke. All we need is a new release of tenkaichi 3 with a good online. Dragon ball z hyper dimension and fighterz are the only really good 2d dbz fighting game. Was always super cool to see characters that weren't in the dubbed Anime yet (such as Grimmjow and Ulquiorra), and how they'd be given weird movesets that ended up being nothing like how they fight canonically. Once again, fantastic video, look forward to the Smash Ultimate content!

We we're really hoping that it's success would lead to some big 2D Shonen crossover fighting game developed by ArcSys, but instead we got Jump Force, another arena brawler. Clash of Ninja was dope since everyone had animations way more focused on taijutsu which was dope in its own way lol And NEVER FORGET DAT SHINJI HOSOE-COMPOSED SOUNDTRACK Edit: the main issue I have with current Storm games is that most over-the-top Jutsu have to be assigned to a standard attack button, yet when it comes to a mission that involves "no jutsu" "LOOK I'M USING STANDARD MOVES NOT USING ANY JUTSU" *Continuously fires fire release jutsu with the mere tap of the O button* Plus, the English and Japanese names for the standard attack strings in older games sounded damn cool. That is until Rasengan/Spiraling Sphere is just one single O tap with nothing required (outside of J-Stars which handled move distribution right somewhat for once).

They accepted their fate into becoming trash. There's also Blazblue and etc. Attack on Titan 1. And more. Trust me. Anime games will always remain on top. (Except for jump force and etc.)

I got some friends who played it competitively, it has some complicated strategies too, not just mashing circle, like itachi can use kunai to cancel his fireball and blink to do his fireball again, etc etc. i always got rekt when playing with them. The roster is really unbalanced, the top tier like transformed gaara is really undefeatable and the bottom one is really shit, well what do you expect from a pretend-to-be-a-fighting-game

Know what's sad? Sometimes they DO get noteable devs to make anime fighters and they STILL don't turn out. My Hero Academia is made by ByKing, makers of Gotcha Force, the Gundam Versus series, Gunslinger Stratos, and pretty much the whole reason why the arena fighter genre is popular right now...yet My Hero Academia is sorely lacking. It FEELS like a ByKing fighter, but it just doesn't have enough moves! Better than the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games though. Really the bar for anime fighters HAD been raised in the past with the Naruto Gekitou Ninja Taisen games, which were made by Eighting and running on the Bloody Roar Primal Fury engine. From that point on, Eighting and Dimps were hired to do a TON of fighters. Eighting being the Bloody Roar people and Dimps being some ex-Capcom/SNK people. Both of these companies would be hired by Capcom to make games for them. Eighting did Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Marvel vs Capcom 3, a Fate Stay Night fighter and a Kenichi fighter for Capcom while Dimps to SF4, SFXTekken, and possibly even SF5? Dimps also made the DBZ Budokai games (non-Tenkaichi) and the Zatch Bell GBA game you were playing. Eighting did the Gamecube Zatch Bell game along with a bunch of PSP Bleach fighters and now the Kamen Rider franchise (also the sorely underrated Castlevania Judgement). BTW did you know Treasure did a Wii Bleach fighter (not the one you were playing) as well as two REALLY GOOD DS Bleach fighters? Also, Arc Systems Works has made 4 DBZ games now. The Supersonic Warriors games on GBA and DS (which were good but weird), Butoden for 3DS (which I actually hear is BAD), and now DBFZ. My point is, there's a lot more to the world of anime fighters than what you see on the surface. Maybe consider doing a video on the best anime fighters sometime? Capcom's Jojo fighter, Bleach Dark Souls, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Gundam Wing Endless Duel, Gundam Battle Assault 2, and Sailor Moon S?

Hola. Great video overall. However, I wanna know what _Dragon Ball Z: Supersonic Warriors_ was doing in your lineup for games that just retold the same story ad nauseum. One of the key highlights of it is that it has multiple what-ifs that don't stick to the adhered canon, and it's all the better for it. Yeah, it has three canonical paths, but you don't have to play any of those to unlock anything, at least unless I'm mistaken.

I would've done anything to escape one cultural cespit and jump into another" These words could not be more true and it's the same reason I started gravitating towards anime and Japanese media in general. When most (not all, but most) Western cartoons kinda look similar with simplistic and unrealistic designs, when I saw shit like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and the story's off the wall character designs and concepts with tons of action and an actual sense of continuity, of course I would be hooked on something like that. It was something so abnormal and strange that I couldn't help but turn my head. Call me a weeaboo or whatever, but after watching western cartoons for half a decade, you would probably want to see something fresh.

One of my favorite series of anime games is the Naruto: Clash of Ninja series. The thing is not all of the characters in the roster of the games are great at Taijutsu (hand to hand) combat; hell, some don't even try it in the actual storyline. But the gameplay system and mechanic is so fun and it turns even the worst Taijutsu users into a fun multiplayer beat-'em-up, and it can get so addicting. Plus, the combos are REALLY easy to learn, and it takes a simple system into a complicated type of fast-paced combat. Ultimate Ninja Storm may be considering the "top dog" in the Naruto game series, but Clash of Ninja is a fun game for anyone to learn, hands down. Don't even need to be a Naruto fan to like it. (Coming from a person who actually played Clash of Ninja 2 and the Wii Revolution series for a good year and a half before finally deciding to give the Naruto story a try)

Ultimate Ninja Storm is what iniziated the shitty anime arena fighter era. The only one game that came out from there that has a more variated gameplay and doesn't limit all the interaction in mashing a button to attack, is One Piece Burning Blood. It's a shame it was criticized as another arena fighter of the heap

Not really. Storm games were just very good and those games defined what made a good anime game. Presentation, story, gameplay and characters. @@TheREALHugo4 For real, the way Storm narrates the story, the graphics, animations, roster... Almost everything is perfect. But the gameplay is the lamest aspect of the series. You only have one combo with two variations depending on where you point the stick, one special attack, and one cinematic ultimate (depending on your team you can do coop ultimate jutsus). Game has zero timing since you just press a button to automatically escape an attack. The only one mechanic that can make the game more interesting is the evasion. And that's all

It makes it bad for people outside of the hardcore Dragonball (or which ever anime the game is based on) fanbase. A hardcore dragonball fan will enjoy (either ironically or unironically) any game that has Dragonball in the title because they have a very personal connection to the franchise so even if the game is poorly made there’s still some modicum of enjoyment there. On the other hand someone who enjoys the genre of “fighting games” but has no/little personal connection to Dragonball will play a game like DBZ BT3 for 15 minutes and think “this game is broken as fuck, why waste my time learning how to play it”

@@jk844100 again, someone who enjoys the "fighting games genre" would find it boring and bad... it has nothing to do with being a fan of DBZ or not, is a fact that the game is good as a "game", you are judging the game in a competitive perspective, of course budokai or tenkaichi arent for the same audience as fighterZ or GG, they have some flawns but it doesnt mean the game is bad, is good as a "DBZ game" which was the main purpose of the game. Is like for example borderlands or bulletstorm vs rainbow six or counter strike, one is meant to be a "casual fps" while the other focus more in the competitive fanbase, probably cs hardcore fans would find borderlands boring an bad but that doesnt mean the game is bad.
