Yea. But heres the crazy thing, that was before Gen-Z There are better animes now that they can start with. Why start with an anime that has 800-1000episodes? How is that going to convince them that anime is good? By the time he finishes 24episodes of Naruto, where nothing happened, he couldve experienced the most emotionally moving and beautiful piece of fiction in the world. You don't necessarily need 24 episodes to get a good idea of what anime is like. I recommend anime movies like A Silent Voice, Grave of Fireflies, Hotarubi no mori e, Wolf Children and I want to eat your pancreas for a first time watch. That's how I got into it anyways, I watched Hotarubi no mori e and by the end of it, I had a very solid idea. 10/10 recommend 👍

My start was with Your name. I just stumbled upon it and though it looked nice. I've never seen an anime nor a romance movie, but this shit was an emotional roller coaster. The art, the story and the music by radwimps was something truly beautiful. I never thought I'd be into romance or anime but this movie changed my perspective on a lot of other things, media i enjoy and geneal outlook on life. I still listen to Your name and Weathering with you soundtracks throughout my day. Makoto Shinkai is truly an amazing artist. Can't wait for Suzume to drop and be yet another masterpiece.

In my opinion Shonen is a safe bet but if the person you recommend isn't a fighting or world building person than they might prefer more story driven stories with more drama than action. Same applies to comedy, Anime has the same types of genres with some specific ones for itself.

Then just recommend a season or arc. If they're new, recommending parts of multiple shows to see what interests them is going to be better than recommending they watch a thing front to back that they may just not like due to genre or animation style. It's not my fault that y'all can't just recommend watching 13 episodes of something to get a taste of og dragon ball for example. No joke, that's the length of the first arc. 13 episodes. I'm not asking them to watch gt and super by the end of the week, just a good chunk of 13 episodes of what would later become z, gt and super.

I used to think till 2020 that anime are of two types: 1. Romance which have basically a lot of bs, like to shit of adult jokes or other rubbish (Rent a gf serves my prime example for now) 2. Action: Having gore and violence And I didn't like those ideas but when a clip of A silent voice slide into my shorts and bring unable to get it out of my mind, I finally watched it, I found it so beautiful that I wanted to watch more. I asked for recommendations and was told to watch Your Name and Weathering with you. Got hooked up. Then again saw a clip of Rascal does not dream of Bunny Girl Senpai and watched it and BAM! You got me hooked up with animes now.

Completely agree, the way I started with anime was with FMAB through a recommendation from one of my friends, then because of the popularity I started to watch Attack on Titan and One Punch Man. I got into MHA but I eventually stopped watching the so called main stream anime because I lost my hype for them. One of the first anime I went out of my safe zone to watch was Toradora my first romance anime and then I watched Your Lie in April, and then I started to discover more anime on my own and getting into more genres of anime.

When you watch something that long, of course you'll get super attached to it. Hunter x Hunter was only 148, not that many compared to the behemoth that is Naruto and Shippuden, but it still has the strongest grasp on me because of how much time I spent with the characters. Also 10 out of 10, highly recommend.

My first anime was Fruits Basket, and I'm SOOO glad it was. It's the perfect mix of all the things you'd expect from an anime, with a very interesting plot that keeps you hooked, but not TOO MANY episodes to drive you insane. My second anime was Ouran Highschool Host Club. That was absolutely amazing too imo, very good animes to start off with 👍

Erased is always my starter show when trying to get someone to watch anime for the first time. It has a great mystery element. It's not hard to fallow, but you still get enough anime weirdness to have it be a pretty good intro. Plus, it's only like 12 episodes long, so no long-term commitments.

I would say Fruits Basket, Planet Survival, Noragami, Death Parade, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann are cool animes that you can watch in less than a week, has it all and aside that they're interesting they're kimda short and shows you that an animated story is not for children and can be good without fanservice (not saying these have 0 fanservice but it's just a little bit, just ttgl has kinda a lot fan service but it's just sooo good you don't mind it)
