All the while failing to mention that in this business environment today, its virtually impossible to start an MMA league that can compete with the UFC. The UFC hit the jackpot with TUF that'll never be replicated again, and they rode that wave buying out all the competition and talent from Pride and Strikeforce, effectively monopolizing the sport so all the big stars came into the UFC who made them so much money they became too big to fail. Dana caught lightning in a bottle that he's rode to financial glory since, and he either doesn't realize it, or he'll never admit it.

Zuffa had a different strategy. Under the fertitas the strategy is to make the UFC as a company the most attractive product they could. Pay the big bucks, get all the fighters, get sanctioned in all states, get drug testing, and keep everyone relatively content. Post sale UFC strategy is: we took out 4.5 billion dollar loans to buy this thing, time to milk it for everything its worth. Cut all costs, hire a bunch of fighters who will fight for a 10 and 10 contract, don't ever book any fighters who have contracts that are too expensive, and if you do just make them the headliner. Raise seat prices to the maximum, cut staff to a minimum, get big sponsors, big broadcast deals, and nobody gets any raises. The UFC is being gutted like a fish and any of those superstars we fell in love with in the early days wouldn't fight in the UFC at these wages
@CGoody564
@CGoody564 3 ай бұрын
Agree to disagree. The wages people are fighting for now are well beyond what fighters got paid in the past. Those early stars primarily made their money from outside sponsorships, not prize money. If outside sponsorships we're still allowed, they could cut all these costs and the fighters wouldn't be getting shafted nearly as hard.

Inflation and taxes. I remember Charles Oliveira saying he'd win a "$50k" bonus. Get taxed in the U.S. and again in Brazil, and he'd make anywhere from 6k-15k after paying gym fees, manager % etc. Also, I trained with one of the PFL winners. He won "1 million" but was taxed in the state he won/fought in and by the state he lives in. He walked away with roughly 375k-385k. NOT 1 million. It's just brutal.

@@StickyFingers47 So why r u comparing team sports to individual? Second why compare Ufc to businesses who’ve been around and successful for much longer? Third I’m proud of the ufc. They have a stronghold on mma. True. As a business owner that’s not ez to do. The fighters seem happy. They willingly sign contracts. It’s just u online types who cry fighter pay. Go break up the less than 15 year monopoly or change contracts and see where that takes us as fans of the sport. Or get a huge fine imposed on Ufc. Or make fighters rich like McGregor and c what happens. Change isn’t always good. Good day. I like opposing opinions. It makes for good debate.

@@ohgeezrick2019 Your question is: Why does Ufc pay different than nba nfl etc? Business operates on contracts. Ufc honors their contracts. I assume nba nfl does the same. As a team sport u can warm the bench and get paid. In mma u have to fight to get paid. Which offers a service to ufc they can monetize. If u win u get paid for fight and again for a win. If the win didn’t have extra pay what would motivate a fighter to win, put on a good show, be Entertaining? Should we cancel the win pay and renegotiate every contract for you to have 1 pay? No incentive pay? Why don’t u compare ufc to boxing? Another individual sport.
