I'd be interested to see him cover the Balkan Wars: "Hello, and welcome to the News at When. When? The 1990s, when the people of Southeastern Europe decided that they couldn't live with each other anymore and started to go their separate ways. Here to explain is Bob Hale, with the Yugoslavia Report." ... "So Lord Carrington comes up with this new plan called the, well, Carrington Plan, which will make all six republics independent. However, the Serbian President, Slobodan Milošević, doesn't want to dissolve Yugoslavia, so he refuses to sign. Guess he 'Slobodan' that idea!" ... "So by now, all that's left of Yugoslavia is the republics of Serbia and Montenegro, and that is the end of that. BUT NOT FOR LONG! Because in 2003 the country decides to change its name to, er, Serbia and Montenegro, and that is the end of that. BUT NOT FOR LONG! Because in 2006, Montenegro finally catches up with everyone else and decides that it now wants independence after all, so Serbia and Montenegro divides into... well, Serbia and Montenegro. And that really is the end of that. BUT NOT FOR LONG! Because just two years later, Kosovo declares independence from Serbia, only this time Serbia isn't quite so keen on losing yet more territory and refuses to recognise it, and that really, really is the end of that. OR IS IT? After all, this is the Balkans, where everyone hates each other, so who knows what will happen next? Back to you, Sam."

Richard II was actually a cousin of their ancestors who Henry IV overthrew, Henry IV and through him, Henry VI was descended from John of Gaunt the third son of Edward III, the first son died leaving Richard II who was overthrown and had no surviving descendants, the second son died before Edward III but had a daughter who would live, John died and his son Henry became king. But there were two other sons of Edward III the duke of Glocester and the Duke of York, Glocester died without children while the Duke of York was the ancestor of Richard Plantagenet. What more that daughter of the second son was also Richard's anscestor so he had a claim through both of them and argued that his relation to the second son was stronger than Henry VI's connection to John of Gaunt.

Did those battles instantly change anything directly though?...he picked the main battles...it's not a FULL history...just a "Quick Run-Down" version
@blahblahblah5256 Жыл бұрын
@@KingOfGamesss All those battles impacted on the swing of power. Blore Heath.... the Yorkist's defeat resulting in York, Salisbury and Warwick to scatter to Ireland and, Calais. Mortimers Cross..... Yorks's son, Edward Earl of March defeats the Welsh Lancastrians, and is recognised as king in London before marching to Ferrybridge and Towton and finally defeating the Lancastrians lead by Margaret of Anjou and securing the crown. 2nd St. Albans..... Warwick forced to retreat with Margaret of Anjou's force making it's way to London, and subsequently unable to make entry and march back Northward. ( ending in destruction at Towton). Tewkesbury...... The final nail in the coffin for Lancaster.... Edward Prince of Wales, heir to the throne executed and Henry VI captured and imprisoned. Margret of Anjou captured, imprisoned and finally returned to France to eventually die a pauper. So yes, key moments in the 30 year cousins war. And I understand that the BBC Horrible Histories series attempts to appeal to kids, but compromising their full understanding of that period and key events is just typical of the ignorance within the BBC and those paid by licence payers to research these matters . The same BBC that touts nonsence such as Mary Secole being a nurse.

@@KingOfGamesss I guess that's one way of looking at it. No singular event happened for no reason, as is the case for history in general, but a series of events that alter the course either in favour or against of the main protagonist's. The War of the Roses never really impacted in so far as home or foreign policy was concerned. But when that Welshman who lived in France turned up at Mill Bay in Pembroke in 1485 with a small retinue and faced Richard III at Bosworth..... that was the end of the plantagenets and the beginning of Tudor England.

The less power and influence the pope and Rome had the better it was for the people of Europe. That is still true today. Our king Gustav I, did the same thing in 1527. Now, the real reason he became head of the Church after cutting the ties to Rome,was so that he could get the church bells, melt them down,and finance his wars. Independence
