This is the kind of wit humor and insight that made food a love story such a pleasure to read I always quote that line about grits if you like the taste of biscuits and gravy without the taste of biscuits and gravy then you'll love our man-made wet sand. I recommend it to everybody! The book not grits😊

Never once went to the theater growing up. I was an adult when I went to see the first Star Wars movie. I still can remember the opening scene! Sure beats the screen on our 19 inch black and white TV.
@oltedders9 күн бұрын
I got to go to the movies by myself. I could walk to the shopping center where the theater was located. I saw Peyton Place when I was 9 years old. They could have extended some of the scenes, IMO.

Today, the opposite is true. Loud teens on their phones and outrageous prices. Nice big TVs and peace at home with thousands of movies to choose from.
@FisherMan-bh9dn8 күн бұрын
@@talandelana6873 That's true. I don't own a television but plan on getting one eventually. I have a good sound system already so I'll be set. Now the difficult part is finding something worthwhile to watch.

I cannot imagine that! We went to the movies a lot when I was a kid, especially the drive-in! One of the very, very few fond memories of my childhood.

@preciousone5496 I had a great childhood. A huge loving family, lived on the beach and played sports for the entire time. Movies were just not something we did.

Love it! That's how we saw movies. From whenever my Dad got there until the end. But we at least watched the movie in its entirety the second time. But I get it. "The movie starts when we get there."
@stationminute6 күн бұрын
Yeah, our dad too would take us to the theater, pick a movie based on the poster, buy tickets, and walk us in regardless of when the movie actually started. If he didn't like the ending, we didn't stay for the beginning. My earliest movie memory is seeing the last few scenes of 101 Dalmatians and then heading back to the car.

I was very lucky to go to the movies in the 1960s in Brisbane Australia. My mother, younger brother and myself would catch the train from another town and meet my grandmother in Brisbane. We saw films like Mary Poppins, the Jungle Book and others. Those were special days and eating lunch at the Coles diner capped the day off.

I love Jim! One curse word shouldn't cause an uproar. It may have come about as he was relaying what his father said. Every other word being one is a problem. It makes a comedian sound unintelligent. Jokes can be funny without being crass.

He swore (and not for the first time but I digress). So now the hoard of comments about him being a clean comic can finally stop haunting us all.

I would go on a rant about the many bad kid's movies I saw, and my outright hatred for The Polar Express. But instead I'm going to suggest the movies I actually really enjoyed watching with my kid. And didn't mind if it was repeated watching. Often times, the movie would get funnier the more one got to see it in detail. OPEN SEASON 2. Forget Open Season 1. The gold is in Open Season 2, and Crispin Glover's portrayal of Fifi, the insane poodle, is genius. I still quote dialogue from this movie to this day. OVER THE HEDGE Nowhere near as good as Open Season 2, but its enjoyable. Plus Ben Folds soundtrack makes it enjoyable. BARNYARD (also known as Barnyard: The Original Party Animals) Hilarious. Absolutely hilarious. THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX Everyone knows this movie is good. It's the only Wes Anderson movie I like. Thanks Jim for sharing the pain of kid's movies.

Has Jim completely dropped his high pitch third person voice? The one that comments like an audience member? The voice was everywhere on his first four specials ( mr. Universe, Cinco, king baby, family values,) is it dead?
@thegoodpimps7 күн бұрын
I think Jim dropped it because he’s been performing for his audience so long and released so many specials. That voice represented audience members who didn’t much know who they watching.

I've been following Jim for well over 20 years, so I bring a fair amount of experience in asking this question: has he started to swear? I couldn't believe it when he said "horsesh*t" and used "hell" in a swearing manner. Don't get me wrong, I'm no prude - love Carlin and Black and all the best cussers. But Jim was in that class of comedian where he didn't NEED to swear to be funny. Maybe he's just given in to the effects of the Goddam Christian Nationalists (the ones who don't hate Nazis).
@thegoodpimps7 күн бұрын
Jim used to swear on first CDs, his big influence was Dave Attell.

Am I the only one who thinks that Jim‘s medication is having a negative impact on the quality of his jokes? I really do not want to step on his toes but if his previous programs were 100% funny then his current program is 60-70% at best. IMHO it is lacking that special something that made him Jim. Might be farfetched but when listening to his jokes about his medication and how they make him feel it does somehow make sense. But, again, I may just be the only person feeling this way.

Lacks the bite of his older performances. Very restrained to impersonate another person and do any "silly voices" to avoid offending them.
@Janette-l3wКүн бұрын
He changed completely. The Organization got him. They told him to sell whiskey. They told him to go on medication . This is show business , and it's evil. It also happened to my dear favorite comedian, John Pinnette. His death iin a hotel at age 50 does not make sense , and to me is suspicious. John also lost a ton of weight. He also changed, lost his humor .
