The years between 6 and 12 are the absolute best. They're old enough to dress and feed themselves, but not so old that they don't love you anymore. I told my daughter when she turned 13 that I would be waiting for her on the other side. Eventually, I knew she would love me again.

Oldest daughter is 17, middle daughter is 16, son is 9. I’m still waiting for them to not like me… I mean, the girls are like having 2 extra wives sometimes, especially when they are on the same page and I’m not, but they also still hug me every day, hold my hand walking in public, and make me snacks or coffee as a surprise. Tbf, I’ve talked to them authentically their whole lives, been honest about as much as I can, and tried to do my best.
