I am the creator of the 5th map. Please allow me to explain what's going on. Seven years ago I played CIV RFC DOC and posted the gameplay online on civfanatics. I created this map back then. The game tries to simulate human history, but at the same time is a game, so humans can changes things. In this game I played as Russia. The maps includes a lot of anachronisms. Each country has the map of their technology date, which does not necessarily corresponds to the in game date. So France and British Empire are post WWI, while Portugal is a little older. Also, the projection is Robinson. Great for gameplay, maximum land but it messes up with unfamiliar people.

1:30 That is from World Conqueror 4, a strategy game based, as you said, mainly during ww2. The thing is, that map is more or less only the "debrief" map (for the "free campaign" (aka you pick a country, and then take on all ememies). The map used for gameplay is more akin to what landmasses look irl, however theres still the fact that... America is basically right next to europe. The Campaign/Scenario map is also wayyyy more precise. Still pretty awful tho, but thats mainly due to it using hexagons for troop movement.

In the 18c world map, they definitely screwed up on Louisiana being already Spanish, and included maximum Spanish claims up to BC which they never really held- the british were already in there by the end of the 18c; and with the PNW they clearly have tried to include British claims on Oregon territory, but those were much later and anyway included territory here marked as Spanish. they also need to puff up the French holdings along the St Lawrence, and divide the rest of red Canada into the Hudson's Bay Rupert's Land and various unclaimed areas in the farther north and west. The Portuguese holdings in Africa are too large and strung out over too much coast, blocking British and French ones from the coasts they held, and anyway as you note, almost all of Africa was empty of Europeans until the mid 19th century or even after 1885. Oh god, I can't go on about this map.

The map with the game on it is from World Conqueror IV, and it’s basically if you took HOI, stripped out everything but the bare minimum, and shoved it into a mobile game. I used to play World Conqueror III a lot as a brain on the shelf kind of thing, I thought it was fun but it really isn’t that good. The developers make all sorts of games like it, all of which vary extremely widely in quality, I’m just relieved that other people actually know about the games and I didn’t just dream it all.

In the 18th Century map, it's actually (very vaguely) correct in that the Holy Roman Empire *did* own most of northern Italy until the Treaty of Campo Formio in 1797. For some reason, most maps don't show that after 1648 (presumably since independent Switzerland and Venice cuts off the region from the rest of the HRE after the Treaties of Westphalia), but states like Savoy, Tuscany, Parma, and Modena (not to mention Habsburg Milan) still were technically vassals of the Empire until 1797. This is shown, for example, in 1708, when the Dukes of Mantua were deposed by the Emperor, using his right as their feudal overlord...
