I looked up the crazy fire alarm... snopes says that it was a real thing but that the part on the wrist would disengage from the machine, thus allowing escape but also identifying the person who pulled it. about the guy in the wheelchair being stuck on the second floor: the elevator shouldn't shut off when the fire alarm is pulled! One of the reasons they tell you to keep the elevators clear is so that people who *can't* use the stairs can use them, or so firefighters can quickly navigate the building, They can also sometimes malfunction if fire has reached them. Also, if you see a disabled person stuck on higher floor, call the fire department yourself and let them know there's a trapped person. Even if you don't know if there's a fire yet, do it to be safe. The first thing they'll do is go and get the person and bring them down safely. Remember to NOT attempt to lift a person or their wheelchair without permission, you could end up seriously injuring them or destroying their wheelchair. Chairs (and the people who use them in some cases) are suprisingly delicate. - your local wheelchair user

8:10 probably worked ok when it was built. They didn't allow for weather - storms and winds can take a beach away completely !

1:46 Most bicycle tyres are wide enough not to fall through the gaps in that steel grating. I'm not sure about racing bike tyres. You just have to be on the alert.
@PedroConejo19392 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but no. No sensible cyclist is going to want to ride over that. Don't forget, tyres are flexible and as Jeff Goldblum says, 'Life will find a way'.

Road bike tires are skinny. They will fall into that

3:22 This may come as a shock to some people, but there's A LOT of buildings where the only real structure is in the core like that. Even some of the tallest buildings in the world. You just don't see it because they actually put floors around it.

That's the Astra tower in Hamburg, Germany. It was the headquater of the Astra brewery and is inteded to look like a beer glass ("Pilstulpe"). It is demolished now but was a pretty iconic symbol of brutalism. It was a totally safe building.

A pet hate of my husband's is the last thing to do with this needless, pointless, brainless, fancy designer-work on indicators and brakes. And, as a newish driver, I can't say I blame him. Stupid little rear indicators or brake lights that completely vanish when the sun shines on them is dangerous beyond belief - and these models are approved by the very people who are paid good money to check car safety before they go on sale to the public! The public that, as well as including good drivers - includes the harassed, the tired, the angry, the lost, the stupid, the just-been-fired, those who have out-of-date glasses, those who must yap on the phone, text, scroll through internet pages, yell at the kids, eat, drink, smoke, apply make-up and an ever expanding number of other activities. Indicators & brake lights should be 'bigger!' not smaller!

The firebox pull station was designed like that so it could be installed where there were a lot of pranksters pulling the alarm to watch the fire trucks race down the street. When the firemen are responding to a false alarm they can't protect anyone who might be in a real fire so that housing was designed to make the miscreants easier for the police to identify and arrest.

7:04 the fact that with the children's playground you can just see a child falling off it amazes me
@paulkennedy87012 жыл бұрын
You mean the one near the left edge with arms and legs in the air? He's not falling. He's swinging. See the points directly above him where the ropes are fixed to the beam. Like the boy about 4 m to the right of him.

3:04 locks your hand in place when you activate the fire alarm. Designed to stop fraudulent use, also designed to stop any sane person from using ever.

the 1912 playground looked a lot like the playground i played on in the 1970's. it's only been the last 2-3 generations that think everything must be safe at all times for everyone or it cant exist
