Whilst this is true I feel like the majority of the problem lies in the fact that interest is so high and Britain’s global financial prominence is quite weak currently. So banks are having to lend money on mortgages with sky high interest rates (especially on 5% and even more so if 0% returns), because they don’t have much financial power at the moment. “In 1980, the average UK house price was around £21,000 and mortgage costs accounted for 11.3% of disposable income. Today, those figures are around £292,000 and 45.1% respectively” This statement means that a 25% interest rate mortgage in the 1980s is similar to a 6% interest rate today, as the price of houses has disproportionately risen compared to the interest rates Kinda sucks :(
