SA and animal abuse are my two lines I won't cross in a movie as well. Especially anything against dogs, even if it's offscreen and implied.

I agree, those two things are my worst nightmare in films too! Some films I can fast forward depending, but it's always so upsetting especially when it suddenly happens with no warning :(

I also won't watch movies with animal deaths. I'd like to recommend the website -- does the dog die. --Originally, you could look up a movie title, and it would identify if an a animal died in the movie. They have now expanded it to cover a variety of issues that can be triggers, such as sa. It's a great tool to help avoid triggers, especially since horror movies often have things that are my triggers.

My choice: Megan is missing. It was the exact moment in which I couldn't tolerate extreme realistic violence anymore

How about "Hostel"? Different type of story, but it is definitely extreme and realistic violence.

After watching Cannibal Holocaust purely for the credit, I never need to see that again. The animal killing was sickening. I am in the same boat with Human Centipede 2. It took me about 3 tries to get through it (I was an edgy teen) and even after I was done I felt so icky. I've essentially removed that movie from my mind thankfully. I do love torturing myself and seeing how far i can push my boundaries, but I don't think I'll touch A Serbian Film.

'Megan is Missing' is a dark movie for sure. I watched it once and it immediately went on the same list as 'Martyrs' for me. Never gonna watch either of those again.

My 2 Cents: The movie is very dark, impactful, and IMHO a solid cautionary tale. I am aware opinions are sharply divided in terms of watchability, and I completely respect any girl/woman who will not go near it. On the other hand, years ago there were reviews online of different chiming in about it, with about 1/2 saying it's a no-go / absolutely not, and other women chiming in that they chose to watch it with their daughters and make it a Life Lesson tool. They found it useful. My complete respect to the latter for their courage and boldness and constructive use of a truly difficult movie. P.S. - I found it overall well made. If people are trashing the story in the name of the technical aspects, that is dishonest. There are people like me who soberingly can handle the content, and find the overall construction / craft of it well done, given the low budget. Anyway, to each their own. If criticizing it, at least be consistent and fair as with any other critique of horror movies.

I saw Irreversible for the first & last time, on a first date with someone when I was like 18/19. It was awful. Id gone over to her house for a hang out type of date and this is the movie she picked for us to watch...a movie she knew all about because she owned it but didnt think to give me a heads up & ask if that would be ok or maybe just not suggest that as a first date movie. Ive been SAd and it was pretty recent at that time so that scene felt like a gut punch...i got shaky and naseous and threw up a little... then left & never talked to her again. My memory of the scene is hazy so I dont know if id have the same reaction to it now that Im in my mid 30s & Ive been through therapy for PTSD...but im good with not knowing and never watching that movie again.

Agree with this list. I've watched most and found them uncomfortable. I purposely avoided Human Centipede 2 because of the reviews. I'd add A Serbian Film to hard no list - I've never seen it and never will, sounds too extreme and themes I don't want to see

I'm glad you also agree! Yes that one honestly scarred me for life haha! I have sadly watched that one (someone I knew in college put it on when we were teens with no context), had to cover my eyes through most of it haha, it's purposefully done to be stupidly sick and over the top, definitely will never watch that again but I don't even like talking about it/putting it on these lists. It seems like in the horror community as soon as you mention it a bunch of 'edgy' people run to defend it and I'm so over that 🤣😅

The world film Academys are weird to praise and acknowledge Roman Polanski work still but not the "in memoriam" of the late Ruggero Deodato. It was odd there was nothing when he passed.

Martyrs (the original) comes to mind in terms of what I absolutely will never watch again or recommend (women get tortured and flayed alive so a cult can potentially glean some answers about what happens after death. Interesting premise but the movie is just a lot of time focusing on the torture instead of the plot). I think that one sat on my mind for a few days afterward. Also a Serbian Film (something about a man is drugged in to SA-ing his own family for a snuff film and then there's the subsequent revenge). I did not watch the entirety of it. I think some people want to see how far they can push the envelope in terms of what kind of things they can put in a film, and then call it cinema. It's just obscene.
@dieselbaby
@dieselbaby 8 күн бұрын
I have to respectfully disagree with youa bout Martyrs. If I had not sat through the whole thing and experienced the ending, with the very last moments of the film bringing it all together, I think I would have a different opinion. And it's certainly not an easy watch, whatsoever, but I think that the fact the movie sits with so many people for days, weeks, months after a viewing says a lot to how powerful it is. I dunno, just how I felt about it. Not the kind of movie you really *want* to watch again, but very impactful.

I feel like I can't watch Midsommar again. Not because of anything problematic from the director or the subject matter, but because the movie opens with a pretty messed up murder/suicide. As someone who has dealt with the effects of a friend taking their own life, seeing someone not only kill themselves but the graphic emotional fallout from that action is very triggering.

Not to justify K'lling animals in any way shape or form, but I think the ones who did get K'lled in CH did go to the tribe that is featured in the movie, for them to eat. So at least they weren't just k'lled for entertainment.

I'm pondering the validity of children being in most horror movies, depending on the context / material. When the baby is crying in Zombie's "Halloween" remake my feelings are confused to disturbed. Not in an entertaining way. Makes me wonder if the baby actor will eventually send a huge psychotherapy bill someday to the producers. Problem is, the baby's "acting" is so good, and there is a raw realism to the scenes with the baby in it. Definitely mixed about such scenes. Similar to the child in the original "Pet Sematary". RE: animal cruelty. Spoiler: The Halloween movie "Satan's Little Helper" has a blatant animal cruelty scene, although not an actual animal, so no real one hurt. Still, the director's commentary track mentioned that his wife said that was the only scene that was unnecessary in the movie. Interesting. I'd have to agree, BUT it seems quite hypocritical, doesn't it. Why be SO tolerant of murder, serial killing, monsters, excess violence upon HUMAN BEINGS, yet...be so compassionate towards animals, even fake ones? ( I do realize there is a clear difference between actual animals being harmed in any movie VS prop animals like in "The Revenant". Just philosophizing a bit. ) I'm with you: Since when should I watch every sub-genre and/or type of Horror movie? Some are so blatantly spiritually offensive just for kicks. It's not only juvenile, but a personal attack against the people and God whom they love. That's different from movies delving into good vs evil or "true stories" or garden-variety survival flicks involving the supernatural. To each their own, ultimately, since it is also honed to one's tolerance-level and personal boundaries.

Films I refuse to watch are movies that use God‘s name in vain. To use God’s or Jesus Christ’s name as a cuss word is blasphemy, so I refuse to watch any movie that does that. I will happily turn a movie off in the middle of it as soon as the words are uttered.
