Horror, Japan is stopped! There is no end of snow.

At least 10 people were injured over the past weekend due to blizzard conditions. Heavy snow caused flight cancelations and disruption to train services in parts of central Japan. More than 10 000 households in the region have been left without electricity.
Hikone in Shiga Prefecture saw 68 cm of snow while Asago in Hyogo Prefecture received 71 cm. During the same period, Minakami in Gunma Prefecture received 70 cm. And Aizuwakamatsu in Fukushima Prefecture saw 55 cm. The deepest snowfall was recorded in Aomori with 200 cm, while snow also accumulated in the cities of Kyoto, Nagoya, and Hiroshima.
Heavy snowfall, as well as icy roads and high waves can last for several days.

For those who don't know, Japan is one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the world. More than half of the top 10 cities in terms of annual snowfall are in Japan. So this has been happening for a long time, and it's nothing unusual.

Heaviest snowfall is not in a big city which are usually at low elevation. High mountains get much heavier snow. So the mountain towns are the one's that get the heaviest snow. Remember, the snow storm starts out at high elevation and eventually reaches the lower elevations as it cools down, so it snows for a few months in the mountains while still rain or clear at the lower elevations.
@williamlembke7828
@williamlembke7828 2 жыл бұрын
@@danc1197 Another aspect is temperature. A lot of snow is an issue, however when you get to below -25 you have bigger issues such as snow removal machinery not being able to start and even equipment like jumper cables snapping. Last year I worked as a garbage man in a blizzard with a temperature of -53 with a wind chill -64. The first pair of jumper cables I used that morning simply just snapped. The warning time for frostbite was 5 minutes.

I was flipping TV channels after an overnight shift, saw it snowed like 4 inches (about 10 cm) and they closed the expressways, and put tire chains on big city fire engines per the Japanese TV news. In some areas of Japan in the snowy days is normal to get 60/70 cm x day. In Osaka for example in winter they build small ski slopes where they also do ski races! In Hokkaido you can ski the best snow in the world and average they get over 20 meters of snow x year. Temperature wise, I personally experienced -35 Celsius, windy..... I’m not able to explain what it means....

Japan is lauded for the consistency and sheer volume of snowfall it receives. The powder conditions are often ideal for winter sports, as is the varied terrain offered by hundreds of resorts. In fact, Japan is considered one of the best locations in the world for skiing and snowboarding, What makes for these ideal conditions? Japan is fortuitously situated so that it receives cold air masses from Siberia, which pick up moisture as they cross the Sea of Japan. As this moist air climbs Japan’s mountains, heavy snowfall occurs - with some areas receiving an average of three to six meters (10 to 20 feet).

We have big semi sized plows with a wing for ditches. Massive snow blowers and places to put it. If you don't have a good way to remove snow then yes it will look bad and far more worse than it is. If anyone remember newfoundland and what they got a couple years ago, snow drifts where over the top of hydro line and roof tops

We got 73 centimeters last week in my home town Crystal Beach, Ontario in Canada. Somtimes we get more depends on the great lakes mood...

That's so mega cool ....! Not even in Switzerland did we get that much snow, even though Switzerland is actually known for snow and skiers and mountains full of snow. But here in Switzerland there hasn't been any real snow for a long time. Except of course very high in the mountains. But many places that were previously known for a lot of snow no longer existed year after year.

In the past centuries in mountains people were staying at home during months. 2 meters of snow was common stuff.

Heartbreaking to hear of people without power and no end in sight. I've lived in Virginia and I've never seen snow fall so quickly with such big flakes 👀 and those big black birds swarming was eerie 🥺 I said a prayer for all to overcome the odds and find strength to endure what seems an unbearable situation.
