I didn't know about Operation Wandering Soul, so the twist was unexpected. And I'm really glad the makers didn't add a second twist, where the ghost is actually real and kills the American soldiers; that's been done far too often.

Underrated comment. The fact that it was all military tactics inflicts a more profound terror than any supernatural cliché could do.

Another superb story. I had read a little about the psychological offensive in Vietnam a few years ago, but so little was known the details were sketchy and did not seem verified. A disturbing aspect to our military operations, but fear has always been the chief weapon anyone can use against an enemy. Pretty much everybody is afraid of dying, and some can even overcome or shelve that in the heat of battle. If you can extend the fear to non-combat, i.e. make them just as afraid to be alive, you have significant advantage. Facing an opponent with deep spiritual belief opened the door for this sort of action to American forces. I would not be surprised to learn it has been used in some of our modern actions. As for the film, great credit to the actors for conveying the tenacity and deep beliefs of the Vietnamese while also showing the terror any human expresses when confronting cultural fears and their own. Great camera work, sound and direction as well. Thanks to all for sharing this magnificent piece of cinema. Best of luck with future projects.

Such a horrific tactic to use. Those poor men. In the video as well as in reality. Fantastic acting. Such a terrifying reveal when the Americans and their horrible sound machine come into focus (for me anyway, someone who didn't know the tapes before). Love to see short films like this set in other cultures!
@observationsfromthefencepo72072 жыл бұрын
This was compelling. War is a horror backdrop all unto itself and the Vietnam war was horrific on all sides. It was equal horror and education. It was interesting to see the burial ritual of the Vietnam soldiers and then the use of the ghost tapes. Sharing the facts at the end was a fantastic call. In the end, we are all people with various end of life beliefs. The use of a foreign language was vital component as it made me pay attention and those tunnels delivered a claustrophobic feel that really worked when the two characters were running through them. The lighting was effective too. There is a sadness to work also. It makes an empathic point very well. This is a constructed short and great job to all involved. I end all my reviews with Peace. This one reminds us of the true importance of It. Peace indeed.

Such horrible tactics... Exploiting the enemies culture. As an Asian we take belief in ghosts and spirits really serious. And I could imagine how horrible it must've been fighting in war in the tunnels and such seeing all kinds of horrors and death. And the death of your comrades, burying them and hoping they don't come back as evil scary ghosts and so on. Cuz it's scary its no joke, if you were a little kid told like ghost stuff and you get spooked and what not. And Vietnam is one of those rough places to live in.

Great work by the guys in the tunnel shows how truly scary it must have been to be in one of those & to add have to perform a ritual to keep the dead from coming back in such a bad way. Reminds me of a story from Monsters the old TV show & the episode where the solders had to check the tunnels form VC soldiers only to become lost & in the midst of the dead coming for them. That show never lasted long but it did have some great story's. As if War is not dreadful enough but when you add that supernatural element & ghosts it's even more dreadful. The things our Governments do they try & hide are just as bad.

My Grandpa was in the Vietnam War, he was also one of the special soldiers who wore black hats. Also was a Drill sergeant for many things! :) but anyway a war is probably the scariest horrors out there, cause your whole country might get surrounded by the enemy. War was just hard…. How my grandpa died is he got hurt on a tank explosion. How he really died is from cancer, and I think it was from his broken spine. RIP grandpa :( 1943-2003 ❤️:(
