These terrifying tales will take you to the very brink of madness, in the cold, dark and foreboding wastes of Earth’s north polar regions. Chapters: 0:00:41 - The Third Interne "The Third Interne" by Welsh-American author Idwal Jones, first appeared in Weird Tales Magazine in January 1938. The story tells of a surgical horror in the Arctic wastes of northern Russia. 0:16:01 - The Paradise of the Ice Wilderness "The Paradise of the Ice Wilderness" by Swedish author Jul. Regis, first appeared in Amazing Stories in October 1927. The tale tells of the discovery of a frozen mammoth in Northern Siberia. 0:36:49 - The Arctic Death "The Arctic Death" by American author Wilford Allen, first appeared in Weird Tales Magazine in June 1927. Out of the North it came, that dread death that touched every living thing with a killing cold... 1:18:53 - The Earth Draws "The Earth Draws" by Norwegian author Jonas Lie, first appeared in his 1893 collection, Weird Tales from Northern Seas. The story tells of a series of strange events surrounding a young salesman’s visit to a remote fishing station. 1:35:49 - Sleigh Bells "Sleigh Bells" by the mysterious writer, Hasan Vokine, first appeared in the April 1925 edition of Weird Tales Magazine. The story takes place in deepest Siberia, where two men are besieged by wolves in an isolated hut. Wish I'd know about these stories when I was working in the Antarctic. All we had was the traditional viewing of The Thing during South Pole movie nights - and I didn't even have that because I went during the summer season when it's light 24 hours a day and that doesn't count (it has to be during the full-time dark period in winter).

@@ManicDepressedSillyBilly the pay was decent but nothing to shout about. I was an IT security manager. but focused on the science programs, which was the best! I had to work with all the science programs and assess their IT security, so got to go out in the field with them and talk to them and advise them about securing their computers. the reason was actually because one of the major science programs got hacked, so the NSF (and the FBI!) got involved and so mitigation and prevention was suddenly the topic. I was there during summer, so lots of people around.
