I live in Sweden and "To Build a Fire" was indeed a horror story of someone letting their ignorance of the North get the better of them.
@wewearmaskshere25775 жыл бұрын
To Build a Fire is an old one. And yes, you're right about that. People underestimate the dangers of extreme environments and become careless when they feel they are familiar with those places. This can prove disastrous or fatal.

Lack of preparation & hypothermia turn one into an enemy of oneself. However, the loyalty of the dog, despite the turn of events, was encouraging. How many people would desert you when a dog might stay with you despite what you become?

Agreed. I know I'd never last but I'd love to experience a genuine bout of snow just once but not the high priced Oz holiday version. Just to be able to look out the window and have it be as far as the eye could see would be a thrill.

Take it from a Canadian... it's gorgeous to look at, and if you're far enough out in the countryside it gets dead silent. But shoveling snow gets old really quick.

@@HorrorBabbleBrilliant reading of "To Build A Fire" but the text contains incorrect phrases. Like when the protagonist's spit memorably freezes mid-air 2:01"...he forced some water from his mouth..." What? In the story I read Jack wrote "spat". Or 2:03:38 "big naked dog"...huh? As I recall the original alluded to something along that line, but this reads like a bad English translation...from English! (Perhaps not coincidentally, the text used corresponds to that of a .gov "American English" site.) This is not the first KZbin clip to rear a misinforming head; still, a disservice to a great writer and unfortunate marring of this otherwise *terrific* performance.
