“To Build A Fire” was truly terrifying. Horror and the cold indifference of nature is the perfect mix.

To Build a Fire is an old one. And yes, you're right about that. People underestimate the dangers of extreme environments and become careless when they feel they are familiar with those places. This can prove disastrous or fatal.

Lack of preparation & hypothermia turn one into an enemy of oneself. However, the loyalty of the dog, despite the turn of events, was encouraging. How many people would desert you when a dog might stay with you despite what you become?

Agreed. I know I'd never last but I'd love to experience a genuine bout of snow just once but not the high priced Oz holiday version. Just to be able to look out the window and have it be as far as the eye could see would be a thrill.

Take it from a Canadian... it's gorgeous to look at, and if you're far enough out in the countryside it gets dead silent. But shoveling snow gets old really quick.

I watch the animals here on the Cheasapeak, never fails, somehow they knew I think better than us what's going to happen and when they're on the move (birds and such) so early in autumn you better have you long johns ready. 🖐👻

Wonderful! Of course, "To Build a Fire" has been a favorite of mind for at least 40-odd years! In its own way it's at least as terrifying as any cosmic horrors conjured by Lovecraft or Howard. Thanks so much for your fine work, just the thing to listen to on the first truly cold day of this Montana winter. ❄🔥🐺☃😎

@@HorrorBabbleBrilliant reading of "To Build A Fire" but the text contains incorrect phrases. Like when the protagonist's spit memorably freezes mid-air 2:01"...he forced some water from his mouth..." What? In the story I read Jack wrote "spat". Or 2:03:38 "big naked dog"...huh? As I recall the original alluded to something along that line, but this reads like a bad English translation...from English! (Perhaps not coincidentally, the text used corresponds to that of a .gov "American English" site.) This is not the first KZbin clip to rear a misinforming head; still, a disservice to a great writer and unfortunate marring of this otherwise *terrific* performance.
