horse hoof trimming by Farrier. removing a false sole

sorry i only uploaded 1 video last week. but it is febrary. and that is quite a slow month for the most farrier i think. defently for me.
next week we're moving to another house. so i hope i can upload another video this week, but i'm not sure.

Great work! I've seen them do this in Africa with a big knife...they then used old rubber tires for shoes tacked on with regular nails.... unbelievable what those horses endure! They sure would benefit from watching your video....and having access to the right tools too.

A knife like this is quite common The Netherlands, you can buy it everywhere, but most farriers don't use it as much as this one. They usually use nippers for the walls. The knife and hammer are mostly used for the (overgrown) bars. But if you have the skills like this guy, why not use it for almost everything. It sure is fast.

Dogs never seem to understand the danger of milling around under the feet of a horse. To them it's all about getting the best tasting piece of the hoof -- although I'm still not sure what the best tasting part of a horse's hoof would be....

Only ignorant owners allow their dog when the farrier comes. It should be worth more money because of the extra work and danger.

All the years our horses hooves were worked on didn’t include a hammer + knife wow.

The knife with hammer work is amazing I wish I was that good with those tools. I gave up and switched to power tools. Barefoot horses in southern Nevada have concrete for hooves

Are these your standard tools or are they used when you know there is going to be a lot of false sole and overgrown bars? And, is that a special type of knife? I'd love to be able to do this in the late summer when the false sole is built up and hard as a rock, you know, when the hoof knife can't dig in and the rasp bounces off the hoof. I'm old, 70, and have to sit on a mechanic's stool to trim so I have to hold the hoof in my hand, so I wouldn't be able to do this method, but it sure looks convenient. I only do touch up work in between professional visits and only on my own 4 horses .

yes these are my standart tools. i use these all the time. only small pony's and donkeys i trim with nippers.

What is a false sole? Does having that make the hoof extra thick or different in anyway? How do they get it?

a false sole is to mutch horn grow. that doesnt come loos by it self.
