Did she confuse trim with picking out? Oh wait...from the look at all the thrush she doesn’t do either regularly 😂 I’m glad you could help this poor horse and I’m glad owner got straightened out.

I could smell that from here in Newfoundland! Gakkk!

Another example of an owner doing much too conservative trims. That horse had bars for days and horrible thrush from a frog that wasn’t shaped well enough to allow gunk to fall out.

Indeed, brrrr. Why not Just call a Farrier on regular basis instead off Clint bad trimming yourself?
@jhamner94843 жыл бұрын
@@abbyrivers9971 I’m afraid to call any Farriers in my area, most horses that are barefoot in my area and trimmed by local farriers have that same amount of bar.

BEAUTIFUL job. I live in USA. I have percherons I rescued. Its hard to find farrier that works on large horses. The farrier I have drives 4 hours to do my horses. I admire your work stall. I will have to have one made for me:) most carriers that are close to me do not work on large horses.

I think if you can do metal works or know someone who can, it is not difficult to make. If you want I can make a video on how to work safely with stocks.

Maybe you could find someone to modify the hoof jack to fit their giant feet? I use a hoof boss on my draft crosses, it helps tremendously.

Me when I say I do my horses hooves myself: I do conservative maintenance trims to maintain shape and look for issues between farrier visits every 6-8 weeks. What other people mean when they say they do their horses hooves regularly: instead of getting a professional they 'save money' by running a rasp over the bars and toe maybe once every few months
@Jorgenfrombelgium4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing that with me. It is better to ask a professional like you say. I don't know anything about engines of cars so I go to the local garage.

@lacie40583 жыл бұрын
Well the owner shouldn't have been doing it without any know how anyways. For cows hoofs you dont need licenses or anything anyone can just legally pick up a cows hoof and trim or hack as they please which is wrong. But for horses you legally must have licenses and certifications and training classes are the only way to get those. So if that owner was really that clueless he was probably totally untrained which would be illegal for him to even pick the foot up and do anything with a knife or file. Picking is fine though

You shouldn't cut on the frog unless its shedding no need to cut the frog down it's what pushes the blood back up the leg a big spongy frog is desirable and your cutting om the sole no need to the thicker the better. Why are you cutting off where it's best not too?
@Jorgenfrombelgium4 жыл бұрын
Dear D Freeman. Believe me when I tell you I totally agree with you. I believe in good strong healthy frogs and most of the time I only check them and try not to cut them. Dito for the sole. So we are on the same level here. Sometimes you make an assessment and decide to take that extra step. Not because you like it but because you believe you should. That is why I took more of the frog and sole. It is only a decision at the moment.
@michellewal82193 жыл бұрын
All the farriers I deal with cut the frog and dig out the sole! I just started to do my own work and I am overwhelmed
@lottiestanley76963 жыл бұрын
@D Freeman That was NOT a HEALTHY frog. I’m not a farrier, but as a horse person, I can recognize disease, even in a hoof.
