I was a Placing judge at Hawthorne that day. I'll never forget this race. We all three just stared at each other. We'd all judged Thousands of races and were stunned. I figured there would be a general inquiry just the way the horse finished. Stewards opened the door and "Wow, what about that thing...."

@@dehere111 hi Rick, hope you are doing great. I have great memories from those years. I hope I could go back in time and relive those days. My dad didn't have a car. We used to take the blue line usually from Division street to the Cermak and Cicero stop. Then we had to wait for a bus which I dont remember the name not sure if it was 54B it was something with B I believe. That bus stoped infront of the track. Then we walked to the track or sometimes take a shuttle inside Hawthorne's parking lot. While in the track (Hawthorne), I watched the race with him and root for the horse he played, sometimes I would play arcade machines. We often used to seat by the bleachers on the second floor or go to the third floor. Sometimes I would go by the first floor outside by the fence and yelled at the horses when they turned to the final stretch. We preferred the flat races over the harness. Two Jockeys from back then: Mark Guidry and Juvenal Diaz. We used to go to Arlington as well. We used to take the Metra to Arlington park.

She started closing but you can see where she ducked out a bit changing leads and then really started accelerating after that. That is an unbelieveable stretch run but 2 year olds can be like that. I don't think the jock on the lead horse even saw her coming. How could he? It was like a sudden gust of wind. Great video!

My father had a horse named Slack Rack when I was a kind and he could not figure out the start to save his life.(After one of his wins, they had to get him okayed out of the gate before they could run him again.) He'd win from a mile back and, man, it was so exciting to watch him run even in those cheap races. I spent half of my childhood at the track and a good portion of my adulthood there and I've never seen anything like this race. 15 back at the half? She was probably more than 15 back a third of the way through the stretch.

I'm in upstate NY. Close to the Vermont border. Cool here right now. Close to 60 today. A cool down is expected, but, only into the 4o's. Winters here have gotten much warmer. I remember back in the early 90's when nights were commonly somewhere around 25-35 degrees below zero. Haven't had that in quite a few years. I'm quite enjoying the weather now. The biting bugs are in stasis. The horses are relaxed and working outside feels comfortable.

The rest of the field was backpedaling. That allowed her to run her magic in the final quarter, having reserved her energy for that late push. She got lucky with the pace. Not to say that she didn't deserve the "W", but, sometimes in order to win, you need everything to go in your favor. This is one of those situations where it went in her favor.

Silky Sullivan closed like crazy, as did many a horse, and probably from farther back than this horse. What youre not understanding is that this horse was that far back with so little of the race left. Silky Sullivan closed from way back in the 58 Santa Anita derby, sure, but at the top of the stretch hes only 4 lengths off the lead. The anomaly about THIS race is how far this horse was from the lead when it made its move. It simply doesnt happen.

If you remember Brian's Time, a little stretch running horse who normally trailed the field afer leaving the gate, this filly's performance comes up like that. The interesting thing is the final quarter in 21.4. Seems like she just galloped early on and didn't blow out until after the turn. That the kind of "freight train" runs that have people tearing up their tickets before they see the end. Nice filly!

Ancestralblue. I'm glade to hear that Cherokee Run was a nice horse. I hope it comes through in her. LOL I wish that she could go in the filly Triple Crown; she's to old. She'll be 4 in January. We appreciate the fan base though. LOL I'll let ya know when she's supposed to run again. donna

Jmarttt, Wyncrestfarm was the previous owners to DonnaGuska. I'm trying to find out if Deanoguska and Mrguska are full brothers or halfn brothers to her. Soon as i find out i'll let You know. Thank You, donna hays

For all I know, they could very well have used a 'buzzer.' But unless I am mistaken, I believe this was a maiden race, Donnaguska's first start, these kinds of things do happen more occasionally in races with young horses, most being first time starters, you can have an idea how a horse will run, but it's really impossible to predict she would have a huge kick like that. She could have even been spooked by an outside stimuli accidentally into going faster, into an almost 'flight mode.'

I’m curious what her MPH was in the final drive in relation to the other horses, as well as compared to great horses in great victories.
