This song applies to almost all ages! Its the point of the song that needs to be held on to. My son passed on to Life on the 17th of August. He was 31. This was the last song i sent to him, 3 days before he passed. Though he was a believer and loved Christ, he struggled with drugs. Though one might be saved, it doesn't excuse you from the struggles of the world. It just means you will be with God in heaven forever. So no matter what you might be struggling with, life never stays the same! Thats a guarentee! 66carpenter

If I could write a letter to me, I'd tell my younger self "She ain't worth it, don't spend your money on her. Take those welding classes, but don't sweat it about college. You'll have something more important happen right after high school. Be yourself, love everyone with all your heart, but above all, make sure you tell them you love them every time you see them. Be ready to make the best friends of your lifetime, even if they live a good drive away. Kiss the fish when Brian tells you, even if it's not a keeper. And when you feel he needs you, it's okay to break your promise to mom. Don't be afraid of breaking down before you stand tall; dark days are ahead, but you'll make it."

Wow. That made me tear up. I see you wrote this 4 years ago but I hope your life has gotten even better. That's very true. What you said, "Don't be afraid of breaking down before you stand tall; dark days are ahead, but you'll make it." I wish i have lived a life good enough to be able to write a letter to myself but i can't. Have a good day

man this song hits sooo hard.. describes my life perfectly at 17 ten years ago.. Dated the same girl all through high school and broke up at 17, her name was briana, close to bridgette lol.. I started dipping skoal wintergreen at 16, biggest regret of my life, I almost failed algebra, only math class I ever had problems with, and the first day I had my license, I got into a wreck because I ran a stop sign at the corner of dewey circle and state street, which even rhymes with the streets he named lol.. it doesn't get much closer to this song than that ha 😓😊

Im 13 and listening to this song gives me hope for my future being. I know life won't always go according to plan, but there's always a reason behind what happens. This song has been stuck in my head for a few days now and I try not to tear up when I hear it. When Brad says "You'll make it through this; you'll see. You're still around to write this letter to me." I feel theres more of a message there than some are really getting. That part is what gets me along with a few other parts. Being the age I am, tempted to make the stupid mistakes, I have always maintained an amazing reputation and not made many bad decisions. I have much to come in my future and hope it goes great. Looking in the mirror now, I ask myself where I will be in just the next few years. Whats gonna happen between now and 16? Am I gonna be able to "write the letter to me?" Am I gonna live through and really be the person I can be. This song has such an amazing meaning to me. Not only what Brad puts behind the song, but even the personal meaning takes so much consideration into thought. I'm beyond thankful for this song. Somehow, someway, this a stress reliever telling me that sometimes in life are better than others, and I have better things coming.

My aunt played this song for me recently because she said it reminds her of me and said it fits (I am currently seventeen). The line "it's hard to see past Friday night" is really relatable because everything feels so big and overwhelming, and there are so many times I've come close to just giving up. I worry so much about my future, thinking I'm just going to end up a failure. I really hope I can make it long enough to write a letter to myself one day. :')

If I could write a letter to me And send it back in time to myself at seventeen First I'd prove it's me by saying Look under your bed There's a Skoal can and a Playboy No one else would know you hid And then I'd say I know it's tough When you break up after seven months And yeah I know you really liked her And it just don't seem fair But all I can say is pain like that Is fast and it's rare And oh, you got so much going for you, going right But I know at seventeen it's hard to see past Friday night She wasn't right for you and still you feel like there's a knife Sticking out of your back and you're wondering if you'll survive You'll make it through this and you'll see You're still around to write this letter to me At the stop sign at Tomlinson and 8th Always stop completely, don't just tap your brakes And when you get a date with Bridget Make sure the tank is full On second thought, forget it That one turns out kinda cool Each and every time you have a fight Just assume you're wrong and Dad is right And you should really thank Ms. Brinkman She spends so much extra time It's like she sees a diamond underneath And she's polishing you till you shine And oh, you got so much going for ya, going right But I know at seventeen it's hard to see past Friday night Tonight's the bonfire rally but you're staying home instead Because if you fail algebra, Mom and Dad'll kill you dead But trust me, you'll squeak by and get a C And you're still around to write this letter to me You've got so much up ahead You'll make new friends And you should see your kids and wife And I'll end by saying Have no fear These are nowhere near the best years of your life I guess I'll see you in the mirror When you're a grown man P.S. go hug Aunt Rita Every chance you can And oh, you got so much going for you going right But I know at seventeen it's hard to see past Friday night I wish you'd study Spanish, I wish you'd take a typing class I wish you wouldn't worry and let it be Hey, I'd say have a little faith and you'll see If I could write a letter to me To me...

Sure, why not. Proof, I could almost match it, swapping under the bed with in the gun cabinet, and Skoal with Kodiak. And that the first time I tried it was at a friend's place, working on swapping the engine in his dad's 1977 Ford Fiesta, something on I would know,, as said friend had passed on 6 months later, and that stayed between us. As to what I'd tell myself, that's both easy and short. "Start being more honest with people, starting with yourself. Let the rift between you and mom go, because you will have less time with her than you think. Don't waste those years. And start paying more attention when you ride or drive, because one day, you won't be able to talk your way out of a ticket that is going to cost you dearly, and we don't live in an area with public transportation. "The rest of it, that's on you to figure out. I'd tell you not to do anything I would do, but we both know that's going to be a short list. Things are going to hurt, you're going to gain a few scars on the way, but none of them are going to kill you. "But they will make you stronger. Especially the ones that come close to doing so. Someday you will sit back and laugh at them. with the best friends you will ever have, and your family. The best is still ahead, for both of us." There's a lot I wouldn't say, simply because it would change too much, and could wind up ending far worse than it did at this point in my life. Each mistake I made, as with each thing I got right, make me who I am, and I'm happy with that person.

If I could write a letter to me I would start by telling myself to love me and to take care of myself. Don't smoke or hang out all day with people that have nothing going for them (still dont).. I'd tell my younger self to take school more serious and to believe it or not that when you grow up you will actually enjoy learning new facts, (conversations are easily made and carried). I would tell myself don't listen to anybody that tells you you can't do something just because they can't. I would tell myself to use grandma's garage and her connections to start up a buisness as young as possible. I'd let myself know that the heart breaks that I thought would destroy me made me stronger and more wise and one day it will fade away and you will find your forever and start a family. I'd say even though your brother is an asshole spend more time with him because he is only here for a short time and it will be the first major shift in your life. Help grandma more around her yard and make it appoint to sit in the pew at church with her more often. I'd tell myself to let your mom know she is loved, when you move out visit more often even though you are tired from your own stress and working she needs you, she needs someone. This one hurts the most, stay strong.
