Today I had to put down my best friend of 17 yrs. All day long all I said to myself last act of kindness. After 2 yrs of fighting cushings and hoof problems I had to admit her quality of life was severely compromised . She had lost so much weight , and started to refuse her medication. I had to ask everyone I knew iam doing the right thing , right? I would cry while saying she's my best friend, she outlasted the husband trying to camouflage the broken heart of having to make that horrendous decision. When the vet arrived and looked at her , they believed that she had an infection in her bones and probably had sepsis. So indeed I had made the right decision. I couldn't be there but my daughter sat with her with Rosie's head on her lap and whispered in her ear all the good times we all had with her and what a gift she was to our family. Thank you guys for giving me the strength to fulfill my gift to my horse of the last gift of kindness. Run Rosie run , till we meet again .

I remember a story years ago that I read where a blind pony was adopted by a mom desperate to help her blind muscular dystrophy son. The story still chokes me up, remembering what that pony was like. The kid could ride for hours and the pony would never even stumble, and refuse to move if he knew his hooves were too long. The kid heartbreakingly died about a year into having him. The mom swore to keep the pony until he died and bury him next to her son.

Thank you so much for letting the two horses go together. I used to rescue ferrets and I had a bonded pair that did everything together, Zeus and Chaos. When Zeus got cancer, we worried about what would happen with the other. Turned out Chaos had cancer as well. I asked the vets to inject them at the same time, so they would never be without each other. I cried when I saw you had done the same. Thank you for your compassion and understanding that animals can love each other deeply.

@@katmandudawn8417 I agree. The ferret mills and irresponsible breeding are definitely partially to blame, but I also think that pet food in general is full of chemicals and unhealthy fillers that reduce any animal's lifespan. I had seven ferrets, but the emotional toll of having them put down, one after the other, eventually made me stop, as well as the fact that I was six thousand dollars in debt from vet bills. I am sending you a hug because I know how difficult it is to say goodbye. They are such wonderful little personalities and I have many happy memories of laughter at their antics. : )

But at the same time , its awesome that all y'all were able to save 20 more from the slaughter pipeline and give them a chance at a wonderful life . I had a mini mare who had sight in only her left eye and she did quite well and yep she lost her sight in the other eye later on and she still did great . She was broke to ride and drive . She was a beautiful copper bay with a tiny star . She has a forever home with a close friend of mine .And I go see her . All of these horses and ponies and mules that lose their sight , most people dont realize they can still do things but they gotta do them a bit dif than before kind of like us people with prosthetics do .They just need a person or people who can take the time to work with them . Y'all have a blessed weekend and stay safe.

I love to watch the horse get assest and the look on they're eyes coming off the trailers looking at the quarantine barn afterwards being at to auction....its like...is this place real? yes, horses, it's real it's safe and it's for you. And those pastures are for you, too!and those rolls of hay, and do you hear the foo inside the buckets? That's for you too, because they know you haven't had enough. And they have a couple of very kind gentlemen who will come by and will be very soft, and kind as they make sure your foot are in good condition! As for your little confusing friend- hermaphrodite just happens in nature a bit more often than you think. Though one does tend to be more prominent and well developed & functional. While the other less so and underdeveloped, sometime shaped and not functional. Lastly, Blind animals that adapt( which are many to most) are perfectly able to lead full, happy lives, on their own. Some like the set of cart ponies from the last auction, do better with a sighted friend to follow are ALSO still able to enjoy good quality of life. Plus, last time I checked, a horse that's being rode isn't in charge of where you're going, so..... oh and as prey animals (with their eyes on the side of the faces) their sight directly in front isn't that good anyways as their eyes aren't top of head/forward facing, so, yeah, aren't they're still relying heavily on YOU looking out for were they're going even when they're fully sighted? Hmmmm, now why are people bit*hing about HPH adopting blind horses? Seriously. SMH
