Sad to know so many Jamaican reggae face this same predicament despite gifting the world with such outstanding,creative music... Junior Byles, I-Roy, Mixer Scientist and many others.... What on earth is the Jamaican Music Association doing.?...Is there even one?

Give the king his due! They did the same thing to my father, and he died depressed with no house, and no accolades. He and horsemouth were idren and fellow musicians building reggae riddims for Coxone Dodd and other producer guys from back in the 60s who robbed several reggae musicians. When Derrick Harriot did the tune "Penny For Your Song", it was the reality that singers and musicians faced at the hands of producers who have been getting big ups and rich over the years off the blood, sweat, and tears of these great musicians and artists. My father played the guitar on Penny For Your Song which was one of countless songs he played on. Please if there is a good lawyer who is willing to help, please help the man. When my parents had no where to live when I was a baby, Horsemouth let us stay at his place. If I were rich, Jah know I'd help him. Jamaican government please do more for the musical gems of Jamaica. I already lost my father two years ago, many others have passed on, Horsemouth is one of those who are still here. Help him and other musicians and help preserve the legacy of Reggae music, THE HEARTBEAT OF THE PEOPLE! JAH LIVE.

I used to listen to your song Herb Vendor growing up in Kuwait in the Middle East, and when i immigrated to Canada out of all the people i met there is one i found to be a brother in life we will say, like a best friend and i nicknamed him and to this day only call him Full Dread Sally, he is pakistani but grew up in a heavily jamaican / west indian neighbourhood so he only listens to roots and dancehall, not even hip hop. The music is so powerful and meaningful compared to much of todays music particularly content wise.

Royalties arent coming. Horsemouth is literally the face of regggae The current industry of reggae media and platforms need to get in touch with the elder, the festival scene need to get in touch with the elder, thats where money deh Someone also said Patreon, books etc. Even a cashapp for fans to contribute directly

A cry from the heart no doubt ... There are lawyers, there are laws to recognize HIS rights in terms of 'royalties' in showbiz. I rubbed shoulders with this great artist, and I was able to appreciate his performances with various Reggae groups during international tours. I also saw how money could burn his fingers. Today, and like many others, he holds out his hand. What a pity !

@NoLefTurnUnStoned. Жыл бұрын
Forget royalties. Session musicians only get them for writing significant chord arrangement, melodies or lyrics. Session drummers don’t get royalties. He should be getting paid as an ambassador for Jamaican culture and they should make a film about him. Crowd funding also.
@cleopatra1633 Жыл бұрын
Exactly, he is not entitled to anything. He got paid for drumming. Just like millions of other people he worked hard and is poor when he is old. The world is not fair. In his case however it would be great if he could be an ambassador and they help him with another home, because the house and land is not his anyway.
@Baking_bakedАй бұрын
Its more than the royalties for the music. He received nothing for rockers and other films. Was used but he invented the rockers rhythm and got zero credit for it.

@janetoliver42663 жыл бұрын
How would you re do the movie?
@DrTHC3 жыл бұрын
@@janetoliver4266 There is nothing I could imagine would improve the original. The messages are pure! I am the learner, not the teacher. However, if it were to be remade for today's audience, I would love to see as many of the original actors/musicians in it as possible. The royalties from the new music and movie, and the exposure to the musicians' collective musical accomplishments since the original movie, would be an economical boost for them - and just as importantly, it would expose a new audience to a truly peaceful message of justified resistance, community solutions to oppression, demonstration of true friendship, healthy ambition, and so on. I go out of my way to expose as many people to Rockers as I can. I've taken to heart, and often reference, many of the lessons I learned from the movie. And I would love to see the bike again! I have often wondered what happened to it, too. I'm curious if that old Honda still runs ... I have a classic Honda that I ride often. 😊 Peace, Love, Blessed Bee ~THC PS: I forgot to mention.... One thing I often point out is the influences that ska and reggae has had on almost every genre in the last fifty years. I was in Mexico, heard classical music done in a reggae style. Recently, I heard a new country song with a reggae bass line. From eighties pop to today's version of elevator/cafe music, reggae/ska influence is everywhere.
