The next video up will be of the winterization process for my C7 Corvette. This and the oil change were part of the process but both require a little more description so I figured I'd break it up into seperate videos. Stay tuned for the final video in the next few days of the winterization of my car!

Thanks for this video. I’ve watched it a few times before to “study” and I just got done doing this finally. After 6700 miles and about 3 years the fluid was definitely dirty, but not as bad as some I’ve seen online. I’d say similar to yours, maybe like the color of Pepsi or something. I probably did 5-6 cycles but I didn’t really keep count. The last one or two were probably unnecessary to be honest. To me the hardest part was watching the drips of fluid but I had things covered up pretty well lol.

You're quite welcome. It's definitely a "normal maintenance" item when it's this easy but you're right, the hardest part is watching those drips!

@@HorsePowerObsessed I used the syringe in your link but I think next time I probably won’t use the plastic tube that comes with it. I thought even after the first few pumps the pedal felt better but it may have been in my head (or maybe the fact it wasn’t running)? Seemed smoother to me. I haven’t actually driven it yet though.

Thanks man! I got get out there and do mine, it must be nasty @ 4,300 miles! I take it the vette doesn't need to be on, while pumping the clutch. I just had my rear diff flushed & changed, and that looked normal.. I think it was your Z06 that the rear diff oil looked whitish.. That caused me to have mine changed, before storing it (and of course the oil & filter changed). I own a '17 GS.
@HorsePowerObsessed6 жыл бұрын
Yeah it's really easy to do. Car does not need to be on just suck out the old fluid add new and then pump the clutch a couple times and repeat. I did change my differential oil shortly after I bought the car and it looked really bad too, so it's never a bad idea to do this stuff.

Great video thank you, I’ve never seen this method before. Maybe this is a dumb question but can brake fluid be replaced using this same method by just pumping the brake pedal 30 times over again until clean instead of bleeding? Thanks!
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Brake fluid can't be done the same way because there is a lot more of it and the ABS pump keeps a lot of it out of circulation when pumping the pedal. Only activates when sliding is detected.

Weird, drove tons of manual performance cars, some with a 250mm+ carbon clutch and never had these problems, one change in 20k km was enough (12k miles roughly)

I checked mine last week after watching your video...now i'm about to do this myself! I've read that the specified fluid for the c7 is SUPER DOT4 brake fluid and not regular DOT4. I don't think it makes much of a difference unless you're at the track or push your car hard often, just a heads up
@HorsePowerObsessed5 жыл бұрын
Yeah the fluid I used was overkill but I had it laying around so I figured why not. There is a fluid straight from GM but odds are good there's very little difference. Once you see how dirty and disgusting it is you'll realize that any fluid is better than what's already in there. 👍👍

Is there a defective seal that allows this contamination that can be replaced with a new version that works? Does this problem carry forward to current production?
@HorsePowerObsessed6 жыл бұрын
This has been a problem in any manual transmission car I've ever driven. It gets dirty just like your brake fluid will there's not really a way to stop it just an easy way to maintain it. It's the same in the newer cars and older cars. I've used this method in my cars since I've owned a 2006 Cobalt SS.

My Tacoma started not releasing the clutch all the way. It was the fluid it was so nasty. I wonder where the contaminate came from. I think the brake fluid itself was just eating up the internals of the cylinder. I changed both the slave cylinder and the clutch master cylinder filled with new fluid and was good to go. Shop was wanting to sell me a new clutch and pressure plate.
@HorsePowerObsessed4 жыл бұрын
I've heard this same kind of story from a lot of people with manuals. This method for changing out your clutch fluid fixes a lot of problems and it's simple to do! Make it a part of your regular maintenance and you will have a problem free clutch! 👍

Another awesome video Justin!! Really fantastic!! Have you done a detailing video yet or have one in the works?? Did you have a ceramic coating put on your car? How do you maintain it? When I took delivery I had Cilijet applied...
@HorsePowerObsessed6 жыл бұрын
I haven't done a detailing video specifically. I did do a carwash video just a real quick overview. I don't have a ceramic coating on the car but I use Gyeon Wet Coat which is basically a more temporary ceramic coating. Very easy to apply and it makes the car look amazing. I might do a detailing video in the future because I do have all the products for buffing and everything involved.

I dunno, I been doing this method for several weeks now but after I drive my truck the clutch fluid gets dirty again. So today I did it the right way and flushed out the fluid from the slave cylinder underneath the truck and low and behold their was still quite a bit of dirty fluid still in it.
@HorsePowerObsessed3 жыл бұрын
It gets dirty pretty quick, mine usually shows some dirt after a week or so. This method definitely works because if you do it 4 or 5 times it stays clean a lot longer than if you just do it once. Is it as good as draining it from the bleeder valve under the car? Probably not, but it's a lot easier and it's still getting 90%, or more, of it out.

Yes. It's really only going to work if you have a separate clutch fluid reservoir. Some cars out there share the brake fluid reservoir and it's not going to work really very well that way.

And just when I thought my Corvette chores were done, I just had to watch this video. Slightly over inflate tires and put Vette on Flat Stoppers. CHECK! Oil and filter change. CHECK! Flush cooling system. CHECK! Finish detailing Vette. CHECK! Hook up battery tender. CHECK! Relax in garage and just admire Vette. CHECK! THEN, I had to watch your video on to change clutch fluid. CRAP, that was NOT on the list! Well, at least I know what I'll be doing tomorrow. And then I get to wake up the wife and tell her I have a new routine for her to add to her exercise program. You'll do 3 maybe 4 sets of 30 Clutch Leg Pushes. Yeah, that's going to go over BIG TIME! I'll get back to you whether I change my "like" to a "dislike" on this video. 😎 Just so you know in advance.
