@@TheLazyFusspot_3428 it does seem kinda weird when you look back at the two; then again Grinch Whos and Horton Whos seem to be very different in origin since the beginning, when you look back at the books. Like, for example: the Grinch Whoville was originally small, both the Book and Chuck Jones Adaptation, whereas the Horton Whoville is bigger by comparison. Because of this, each adaptation of the Grinch keeps getting bigger to make up for the fact that the original was very small, and tries to connect to the Horton one. Unfortunately, Grinch Whoville and Horton Whoville will still be two different towns, no matter how hard they try.

4:45 I also love the depth given to Rudy (Kangaroo's son) in the 2008 version, and how it follows the film's lesson:"A person's a person, no matter how small." And it shows that just because he's a kid, doesn't mean he has to live under his mom's shadow and can stand up for himself by making his own decisions.🐘🔭📢 OBS.: Funnily the two sons are the ones that end up saving the whos, Jojo does it by making enough noise to be heard and Rudy by catching the clover before it's destroyed.

I like both versions. The main difference between the original and remake are the characters. In the original Whoville is run by a scientist named Dr. Whovey. In the remake Whoville actually has a mayor. Not the same mayor as the one in the 2000 Grinch movie. In the original Jo-Jo is just a small boy who who was playing with a yo-yo. Jo-Jo in the remake is a goth teen and the mayor's son. If I have to pick a favorite it would be the 2008 movie. Because we get to know more of the characters, (I especially like Jo-Jo in the remake.) And they don't break into song all the time.

If I could make a suggestion, it’d be The Cat in the Hat (1971/2003). While they have their differences, they also have scenes in common, although some of which are in broad strokes. Here are some examples: 1. The kids looking out the window as it rains, looking bored. 2. Their surprise when the Cat shows up. 3. The Cat offering to show them some fun. 4. The Fish telling the kids that the Cat shouldn’t be there. 5. The Cat holding the Fish in the air (although both versions look different). 6. The initial mess made in the house. 7. The Things entering the picture out of the box. 8. Their subsequent chaos. 9. More and more of a mess is made in the house. 10. Mom is on her way home and everyone begins to panic. 11. The Cat leaves a huge mess... 12. ...but comes back to clean it up via a sweeper-like vehicle. 13. Going out the door just as mom walks in. 14. One last shot of the kids. 15. The Cat walking down the street.

Thanks for preparing this as it revealed to me just how much we forget over the years and decades. I saw the 1970 version when I was about 7 in around 1971-2 in the UK [I think it was on TV here rather than in the cinema - it has never been shown here again as far as I know]. I vaguely remembered Horton seeking out a golfball amongst thousands of golfballs thinking the little world resembled a golfball [I have never read or watched any other Dr Seuss stuff - I never even knew it was a Dr Seuss story until 2008]. I thus watched the 2008 version when it was on Sky TV here in the UK around 2009 and it seemed to me to be completely different to what I had seen in 1970. I don't like modern American animations with all their naff kids-in-America voices etc. trying to be 'cool'. Watching the 1970 version earlier today, I could not remember any details from the 2008 one and still though that the two were very different. Now the KZbin algorithm's AI correctly interpreted my comment about this below the 1970 version and recommended this for me.

I prefer the 1970 version. The 2008 film is good, don’t get me wrong, but it does have its hits and misses.

It seems like the 1970's version Whos are actually bigger than the 2008 version! Since the world is smaller in the 1970's version but the dust speck is bigger (Sometimes), and the world is bigger in the 2008 version but the dust speck is smaller!
