I really do hope they bring the Solar Auxilia to plastic form, yeah they can be converted and I'm fine with that. But having them as official plastic models would be really cool! I remember hearing about them then reading their lore and thought they were so awesome

Unlike the Cults & Militia, where basically any human-scale models can be proxied in if they've got a gun, third party options for the heavily armored Solar Auxilia require more fiddling. Although I would argue that certain doctrines within the Solar Auxilia, such as the Penal or Feral ones, could be used with "normal" third party plastic kits. The former could be done somewhat well with Wargames Atlantic's "Cannon Fodder" kit, which has the added bonus of coming with space helmets. They're just obviously less armored, wearing little more than a jumpsuit. Feral troops could be made with many pre-modern historical kits, though again they may feel less armored than is appropriate. The lack of armor can be mitigated somewhat by either kitbashing kits with more armored torsos (example: any of the "Knight" kits from Perry Miniatures). Or, if so inclined, by sculpting them on with Green Stuff (though that seems like a lot of work for an infantry-heavy force). Another option from Wargames Atlantic are the "Iron-Core" kits, which are far more armored. They have fewer models per kit than most WA products, but come with a plethora of weapon styles. So you should be able to find something within the kits to replicate all the options for Solar Auxilia squads. If not, they can be kitbashed fairly easily. Various manufacturers put out miniatures in resin that resemble the kind of void combat the Solar Auxilia is known for. Anvil Industry immediately comes to mind for this. I tend to not recommend resin minis in most cases, simply because resin tends to cost roughly as much as GW plastic kits. Third party plastics tend to be a lot cheaper per model. But in this case, we're comparing the price of third party resin against _Forge World_ resin. You're not only paying the GW tax, but the Forge World tax. With that in mind, most third party resin manufacturers are way cheaper. All of this assuming you're buying the models. If you have a 3D printer, everything I've said until now is irrelevant. Just find acceptable proxy STLs, that fit the aesthetic you prefer, and print away. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of people making such STLs online. (Honestly, if you don't mind learning a whole new hobby, buying a 3D printer is comically more efficient than buying from Forge World.)

It's funny, in NZ the Forge World antipodean markup isn't as bad as standard GW so it's actually cheaper to buy the Solar Auxiliary than the Navis Breaches (3rd party sellers notwithstanding)

This is an excellent overview. I’m hoping that the Warhammer Community post today about the despoiler squad arms upgrade kit where they said more plastic infantry is on the way was talking about Solar Auxilia units. Plastic Mk II would be nice & old LOVE plastic breachers, but plastic SA would be such a boon for HH players.

I've just finished converting a 10-man squad using FW rotor cannons. It's a quick and fiddly conversion but you just need a bunch of green stuff to connect the ammo belts. If you can find some, use the old rotor cannons that don't have Space Marine hands molded to the triggers.

Is it just meme or are the Tempestus Scions deliberately supposed to look like Solar Auxilia? Like the TS are their modern successors?
@ArbitorIan Жыл бұрын
They're both kinda gothic, but no, not really. They do quite different jobs. I think TS are meant to look like scifi-gothic special forces, whereas SA are more like scifi-gothic deep-sea divers! If anything, the closest 40k thing to SA in terms of looks are the Kill Team Naval Breachers

Okay... so why didn't you talk about any 3D printing options? You said this was all stupid expensive and you want to get people into the hobby. It is things like this that make people worry about what is in that contract you have to sign with Games-Workshop. I would really love an explaination because this is the perfect force for letting your 3D print or 3 party flag fly because of what they are.
@kitchensinkmuses4947 Жыл бұрын
I don't know, As soon as I hear "3d print," I turn off a video. That said, I'd like some 3rd party inspiration like with the squats
@ArbitorIan Жыл бұрын
So, there's nothing that stops me talking about anything, really. We talk about 3D printing in the most recent Tale of Four Gamers, where Bobbie is sculpting and printer her own conversion parts. I have a 3D printer and print bits and bobs. That said, it's definitely a time consuming new hobby that I wouldn't recommend on anyone as an easy alternative. I personally would rather buy the kits or just not have the army that 3D print a whole army - the hours of printing, dealing with resin, cleanup would be torture. And while I've seen some nice models out there, the field is also plagued with actually-illegal GW knockoffs. So while it's certainly possible for someone to 3D print a whole not-GW army it's not something I'd neccesarily RECOMMEND!
@Caladors Жыл бұрын
@@ArbitorIan The reason I say that is simple your going through this step by step and every step of the way you are saying 'very expensive' look at converting, so and so on. It is on direct GW product and that is why people think hey okay you sign on the dotted line you can't even talk about it anymore. Tale of four gamers isn't a direct GW product like this. This why people make those connections. And to be honest I would much prefer dealing with 3D prints than forge world. Forgeworld often has errors as bad or worse than anything 3D printing has to offer and all problems of dealing with resin plus 20 times the expense. It is always something I would recommend when forge world is the primary option, infact most of the time now I recommend 3D printing over the 'real deal' because there is certainly no deal about it.
@kitchensinkmuses4947 Жыл бұрын
