They called me crazy for freehanding scales on my Salamanders, but you just had to step it up and sculpt the scales one at a time, you absolute madman!

Hey Pete, incredible work. Just a lore note for the Salamanders: There's a difference between the skin tone between space marines and Nocturnians. The super impossibly dark black skin comes from a genetic "defect" in one of the organs that gets implanted when they're made into a space marine. I'd imagine that mortal Nocturnians would have more "realistic" skin tones (although I know there are real people with skin so dark it looks impossible, too).

Even if not, failed Space Marines aspirants who survived their implantations have served as housecarls and serfs in other chapters. This could just be an example of that in the Salamanders. It looks awesome, Pete!

​@@PeteTheWargamer I remember reading that the regular Nocturne people do have dark skin, but more or less within normal parameters, and the Salamanders having red eyes and straight up pitch black skin is a reaction of their specific geneseed with Nocturne's star's radiation. Then again it's been a while, either I could be misremembering or GW could have chamged that, either way the kitbash is awesome

@@PeteTheWargamer I love your work and this video in particular, I just also love Salamanders and so have a lot of feelings about them, please don't take the following nitpick as negativity or criticism. Ebon doesn't necessarily mean black, and definitely not ashen. It can (and when referring to skin almost always does) refer to incredibly deep saturated browns. Since melanin is our natural protection against radiation, and living on Nocturne would pretty quickly selectively pressure genes towards producing maximum levels of melanin, I like to imagine that the humans of Nocturne have extremely dark brown skin. That would also explain why when introduced to the geneseed that the SM skin pigmentation organ (IDR what its called but its the lore reason for the Salamander skin) would go into overdrive and make them literally black. I personally think it was pretty weak that GW retconned the Salamanders to remove any connection to African origin or to any actual Black peoples, and so I de-retconned it and try to incorporate real dark skin tones as my base, mixing the typical blacks and greys with a very warm brown first, and highlighting with warmer greys or less saturated browns instead of pure grey. Not only do I think it fits better with their color scheme as a whole, it makes their humanity a little more obvious even while still looking like terrifying badasses.

Hey Pete, I loved this conversion. As a Ravenguard fan, I'd love to see some conversions of them or maybe a Corvus vs Lorgar mini diorama. Subscribed a week ago and watched most of your vids. Keep it up! Also, if you ever need to do scales for Omegon, I found out the grip of a metal clay sculpting tool works perfectly. May could've worked for the scales.

Always curious, when you use Vaseline for the greenstuff. Do you just remove the leftover Vaseline with a piece of cloth/paper or anything particular? Great conversion! Love your paintjobs especially!

You barely need to use any, you should be able to wipe it away with your finger once the putty has cured.

I would love to see a member of an Imperial Fists auxillia next; Possibly one based around the new Adeptus Arbites, with their psuedo-knightly armor and thier shoulder pads that already sport a winged fist emblem. Shave off those wings and you're already off to a solid start.
