Philippines is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.
While there are a few places in the south I would not recommend tourists to visit, the country has so much else to see, do and experience. From beautiful hills and rapidly growing cities, to beaches and seascapes that while stay in your memory forever, Philippines has a lot to offer.
Hospitality has always been a key industry in Philippines, and today many Filipinos work not only in the hotel industry around the world, but also in many of our hospitals. Why? They speak good English, are keen to work, love to travel and are genuinely warm, caring people. Heart warming hospitality seems to come very naturally to Filipinos, and if you do visit the country, I am sure you will receive a wonderful welcome.
With the country's two major airlines, Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines, now buying more planes and expanding routes, the country has become easier to visit than ever before. And, let's not forget that Philippine Airlines (PAL), founded in 1941, was the first commercial airline to be established in Asia that is still operating under its original name - that's quite something!
But how do so many Filipinos end up working in hotels and hospitals around the world, what is the process, how does it work, and what choices do they have? As many are very young, are they not scared about leaving home, are their families not worried about their safety, and wouldn't they prefer to work in their own country?
Those are just some of the many questions that I asked Mia Danielee L. Leonoras (23), in Ha Long on 26 May 2019. Mia, who is from Philippines, has worked as an intern in Florida and was up until very recently working in a hotel in Ha Long, Vietnam. She is now looking for a new opportunity in the cruise industry. Watch the video or listen to the podcast to learn about Mia's thoughts, experiences, and tips for others.
