Nice video! I love hostas too! I have around 90 different varieties so far! I think my top three favourites large ones are: Liberty, Bridal falls and goodness gracious! But i also love diamond lake, sum and substance, france williams ect! Some smaller ones that i love are Wheee!, all the ones in the halcyon family (june, touch of class, first frost, autumn frost, blue ivory, ect). I also love many of the blue ones and with ruffled edges like waterslide, neptune, hope spring is eternal…:). Hostas are so much fun and many of mine comes from my mom who is also a hosta lover, so i agree they hold a lot of memories :). Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful! I'm a fellow collector 😎 😁 I can't recall which one is my most expensive. It's very possibly Empress Wu, because I remember seeking it out the year it was new. And having to buy it twice, because the first one died. 😂 Favorites change, I will always LOVE June and Rainbow' s End, but I think it's currently a tie between American Halo, and Risky Business; because they both put on size very quickly after planting, and were a massive presence within a couple of years. I like the biggies ❤

Love your Goodness Gracious! Thanks for sharing your garden. You helped me identify one of my hostas, Blue Cadet. It was labeled Elegans when I purchased it as a tiny plant but as it slowly grew it became obvious that it was not Elegans but I did not know what it was.

My current favorite in my hosta collection is probably Guacamole. I think the hostas I paid the most for were my Empress Wu hostas since they were installed by my landscaper after I begged him to find some for me! Thankfully I have been able to divide them and have many more than the two he planted. I think I want to plan a hosta destination trip that includes Land of the Giants Hosta Farm in Milton WI.

Those white centred hostas at the very end of the video, likely undulata mediovariegata.

@pooftiger3 ай бұрын
Mediovariegata albo. There is also an aureum. The latin translation is exactly what the hosta looks like. It's undulating with the middle portion of the leaf in white. Albo marginata has white margins. Aureo marginata has gold margins. I miss that kind of naming.

I’m thinking that the 2 hostas from your grandmother are likely lancifolia on the left and erromena on the right. Very old varieties that were in everyone’s gardens for decades. Google pics to compare.

I have come to truly love hosta as I live a place with the proper shade for them. Unfortunately the deer pressure this year has been higher than ever and every single one of my hosta have been eaten to the ground continuously and never got to growth this year. I really love one I have called island breeze. It looks a lot like some you have. Medium/small leaves. Green with outer yellow. Do you have it? And what do you do about deer?
@AdventuresinGardening3 ай бұрын
Island Breeze is a beautiful one! I don’t have it - yet 😂. I am so sorry to hear about the deer pressure you have…they can devastate a landscape. Deer have only come through a handful of times over the 23 years I’ve gardened here. I see them weekly on the other side of the pond though. BUT let me tell you what we do have - beavers. They have taken more than their fair share 😐 Thanks for watching and happy gardening!

Lovely garden! Liberty is probably my favorite but Goodness Gracious is in the top 10. It's very difficult to choose since there's so many wonderful hostas. Have you visited Mason Hollow in NH? I've bought from them in person at an AHS convention as well as online/by mail. I'm in the midwest so sadly it's too far for me to visit their nursery. Maybe some day. 🙂

I just loved your video on Hosta’s! It surprised me to see you have a Hosta Andrew. I’ve been searching for one of those for a sentimental a reason. My eldest son just recently died of ALS. His name was Andrew. He is definitely at home with the Lord which gives me peace. It has been on my heart to find a Hosta Andrew to plant in my garden to honor my son. Do you have a nursery near you that would have Hosta Andrew? I live in GA and it would need to be shipped to me. Thank you.
