Hey Capt. Mike, I'm planning my first Pulley Ridge trip this June and am making my own weight. I would like to know how many rigs I might expect to go through on an average trip? Also, in your opinion am I better off spending the money on the Seaborg Megatwin750 over the Tanacom 750? Thanks for the Info.
@FloridaSportFishing
@FloridaSportFishing 8 жыл бұрын
+Lori Fellman I've used both and while the 2 speed is a little faster on the retrieve when checking your bait or relocating, it really isn't a benefit when fighting fish. Stick with the Tanacom 750, you'll love it. Reliable and easy to use. - Capt Mike

So when this particular spot gets fished out, does the Captain just go to another spot that can be overfished and exploited?

lol folks using very long rods from a boat..shorter rods would give the angler better control and less wear n tear on their arms and back..
@FloridaSportFishing
@FloridaSportFishing 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, in most cases you'd be right, however in this case we find it more beneficial to fish 8'0" rods when headboat fishing. The extra length makes it easier to toss baits away from boat and easier to keep line from rubbing under boat. - Capt Mike

I could also see how the electric reel is realistic. I would be fine manually bringing fish up at the beginning, or maybe every other couple fish, but when you are lighting fish up like this your wrists will be pretty beat after a few hours. If you think the electric is easy, you have to monitor the speed and drag etc. while also having to pull up on it. Its continuoulsy cranking, so you are working even harder than manual lifting, just in a shorter amount of time.

was that guy around the 25 and a half minute mark really trying to fish 800 + feet with a Penn Senator with mono LOL I hope he was just drifting a bait in the column I'm not a hundred percent sure if it was mono I didn't go back to look but my brain remembers mono but either way that's either insane or way too much work. I've seen people deep drop in about 450 without electric reels but I could have sworn he said they were in like 700 feet plus and it didn't look like it was an electric mate Senator either

Sorry, but fish will hit a bait without a light attached to the rig while drop fishing that deep. I did it with my father in the Caribbean decades ago so know firsthand myself that you can be very successful without one. Just saying.

I know it's probably a little late but how Head Boats like that do it is everybody gets a certain number example would be 1 on the head so you would take a fillet knife and carve 1 straight line in the head and then and when you run out of a usable number say seven or eight on the head then you can do one on the belly or one on the tail one on the throat most people bring their own gear because when you're doing trips like that you're usually a pretty avid Angler. Food-wise you bring some stuff they usually have some drinks I remember the last Tortugas trip I took which was a long time ago you would find the lobster boats and trade them a 12 pack of Budweiser and they would give you a whole bucketful of lobster and you would just eat that and (also use the heads and some tails for bait I'm telling you those big grouper devour Lobster) and the fish you caught through the trip. this was like two decades ago though. we would do a three-day trip and you would sleep on the boat which usually you didn't do but a few hours through the three days and you would just tell the captain where to go. If it was the middle of the night and a few people or dozing off for a little bit you tell the captain let's go hit the reef and go catch big flag yellow Tails while everybody sleeping or throw few barracudas on ropes and try to get a nice tiger shark. believe me it's such a fun trip somewhat expensive when everything said and done but worth it. If you do end up taking a Tortugas trip a big tip is to tip the mates before you even go out not after the trip. I'm not sure how the Yankee Captain works but I was told on the boat we used to go to to do that beforehand and they definitely make sure you stay on fish even if it's in the middle of the night and everybody's tired.

Do you use your electric wheelchair to get down to the boat? If you're not handicapped you shouldn't be using electric reels
@FloridaSportFishing
@FloridaSportFishing 9 жыл бұрын
peterk814 Hi and thank you for watching. Fortunately, I do not need an "electric wheelchair," though I appreciate your concern. Power assist reels are specialized pieces of equipment utilized only in certain circumstances. Listen, truth is I've been out there fishing manually. Yeah, its fun, that is for the first few hours. We're talking about dropping in 600-1200 ft with 2-4 lbs of lead countless times over a two day period. I agree that fishing a primitive electric mounted on a broom stick out of a rod holder would be one thing, but this is lightweight gear fished directly under your arm. Again, its power assist, so you are still using the handle to manually crank quite a bit but when you need to check your back or reset? Save your energy! Its about finesse and mastering reel features like drag and variable speed to be as successful as possible. Countless anglers/boaters use electric kite reels, electric downriggers, electric trolling motors, etc.....all specialized pieces of equipment used only when/where needed. Come deep dropping with me, I'll make you a believer. - Capt Mike

@FloridaSportFishing
@FloridaSportFishing 9 жыл бұрын
Milton Solis Excellent question, we only use the addition of lights when deep dropping in 500-1000 ft during the day. At night, we fish shallower water 100-200 ft and do not include the light, however it may just work! I will try it next time and see what happens. - Capt Mike
