Hot Dog Chili (no beans)

Today we are making hot dog chili.
I got this recipe from another KZbinr
Jan Creson. I will try to link her video down below.
Chili Recipe:
1.5 pound hamburger
1/2 to 1 onion
1 Tablespoon minced garlic
Water
1 Tablespoon Paprika
1 Tablespoon chili powder
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon mustard
1 1/2 cups ketchup
(All spice and condiment measurement were on the "heaping" side.)
Sure onions then add garlic. Add hamburger and begin to break it up a bit. Cover with water and continue to break hamburger up. Bring to a boil then turn down to simmer and continue until water is reduced by half. This takes between 1 and 2 hours. Add in all spices and condiments and simmer for 1 more hour.
Enjoy it any way you like it!!

I always make my hot dog chili without beans? I use ground beef, water, ketcup, ,pepper, chili powder & sugar. Cook it done until all water is cooked off, really good.

I am with you regarding eggs! Finally, someone who is a good cook and does not like eggs. I do not have an egg allergy, but I just DO NOT LIKE THEM! Never in potato, chicken or tuna salad. In a recipe for baking, yes, but no way I will eat them any other way!

love this recipe and thinking about adding 1 TBS of cider vinegar to see if it adds a little tang. From Jan's video...it looks like she does not put in a cup and and half of ketchup/ looks like 1/2 -3/4 cup.

I made Ms.Cresson’s recipe about a month ago. The ketchup contains a lot of sugar and makes the chilli too sweet. Otherwise, it was excellent. When next I make it, less ketchup and some tomato sauce.

My great aunt made the best hotdog chili at a famous recipe in our local town back in the 60's. She taught my mom. She would put the hamburger in water, break it up with her hand in water, put on the burner and stir it as it cooked til done, then boil off most of the water, add salt, chili powder and pepper. I make it now but add a bit of ketchup to it and an onion. It's so good!!

When I can’t grill hot dogs I use a large cast iron skillet, to which I add a small amount of oil. I heat the skillet to hot, add the hot dogs and keep rolling them around until I get the desired doneness. I like mine blackened. Ummm!!! I make this chili too...so good!!

I absolutely love to put sauteed onions in everything I cook. I think they add so much flavor. My husband often accuses me of making "weapons of mass destruction". He can barely stand to be in the house when I chop and cook onions. He can be across the room, and he will start to tear.

When you don’t have time to grill your hotdogs don’t boil them cook them in the oven. They are ALMOST as good as grilled.

When I make hotdog chili I cook my meat in water also..., "sinner" chili cause it's so good hahaha...mine is similar except for the mustard, I hadn't tried that but I will next time I make it...oh I put cumin in mine too

I roast hot dogs in the oven. 350 degrees maybe ten minutes. Watch them closely, it doesn’t take long. I spray them with cooking spray before roasting. Easy and delicious. You so go back to boiling them. Your chili dog sauce delicious!

I definitely need to make this hot dog chili sauce! Looks wonderful! Try baking your hot dogs roasted in the oven. 400 degrees for ten minutes or until they are how you like them. They are delicious! You can also put your hot dogs in the crockpot, no liquid. Great when serving a crowd.

If you cook the hot dogs in a skillet, they are almost as good as grilled. Add just a little water to the pan at first to steam them. After the water evaporates, they will brown and you just roll them over to get brown on all sides. You can heat them through this way probably quicker than bringing a pot of water to a boil!

Just add the garlic powder. Brown 1 or 1 1/2 pounds of ground beef. Add 1 or 1/12 C minced onions. Brown beef & onions together. Then add: 2 Tbsp. paprika 2 Tbsp. chili powder 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper 4 C water. Boil slowly for 1-2 hours. If sauce gets too thick you can add a little more water and a little more paprika and chili powder. If you want it hotter/spicier you can add more cayenne. It doesn't call for salt but I add just a little and a little garlic powder too, but you don't have to.

The secret to really fine hot dog chili (no chunky meat) is to not saute it. That's the reason for adding the water to the raw meat and then simmering for hours. You can go ahead and add the ketchup and seasonings at the beginning--that's what I do. Make it ahead and refrigerate to let the fat solidify on top (if you want it lower fat).
