I really appreciated your discussion on friendship. I know that for me, it was one of the toughest lessons as I moved from being a teen to adulthood - you can downgrade a friendship, you can move away from a friendship without it being the end of the world, you need to learn to be comfortable without being surrounded all the time, it's okay to have a few friends. Another thing that could be added to this discussion is maturity. I think it would be worth considering to see maturity in a less black and white manner (you're mature or immature). It serms to me that there are different types of maturity. Growing incompatibility in friendship also has to do with that, in my opinion.

I always thought having friends as an adult was exactly what Alayna is describing… just got mindblown by the idea that there are people who are still able to be present in each other’s lives regularly. 😅
@lisajopegg1685 Жыл бұрын
Speaking as an almost 50 year old woman, re: friendships - My friendships evolve over time and I need different things from different people. I am still connected to one or two people from high school (Class of '91, yo!) but we are at VERY different places in our lives now. I have had people that I were super intense friends with at certain times, and then we drifted apart. As you get older, it takes more effort to make and maintain friendships as you have things like jobs/partners/kids to juggle, and the friendships can feel more superficial, and that's totally okay. Not all friendships are made equal, and they can be hard, and that's just how it is.

I loved this episode! Talking about friends, it's been interesting seeing how people come in and out of my life. And how I have different experiences. With the pandemia and whatnot I've had a hard time keeping up with people and in general just knowing how to text back. Also, recently fell in love with a friend. And before I could take my shot, they started dating someone else... it's been hard, but maybe it was the best course of action? (Don't want to admit it, but some red flags were there) So yeah, hearing this conversation felt refreshing and validating cause I've been a people pleaser and has started noticing all this friendship changes.

I really do think realizing you need certian standards in friendship so important. For longest time, I kinda fell into friendship that maybe weren't the best, but since I didn't have friends, it was more like it's this or nothing. Which sometimes isn't the best choice, sometimes it is better being on your own or trying find new friends that do mash up well with you. Also Ashley, I hope that treatment works for you! ❤❤

I feel like the intimacy thing is huge- intimacy is so much more than sex. There’s lots of fun things to do together that aren’t sex that make you feel close. My partner and I sit like almost on top of each other and just hug and cuddle if I’m not in the mood but still want to be close. I’ve also seen a really cute ace couple that (or at least one of them is ace) that does body painting for intimacy. Like painting scenery on their partners back. I think there’s a lot of ways to get creative to feel close.

I, unfortunately, do not remember where I read it, but the argument was that we all need all types of friends: - interest based - activity/group based - ride or die - proximity (neighbors/class mates...) But it brought me peace and made so much sense to me - as you said - that it's good/important to have various friends and especially a few close ride or die ones.

I am a people pleaser as well, and I chose to lean into my friendshis with people that left "good voices" inside my head. "You don't have a mean bone in your body." "You're not a bad friend at all. You're a great friend, and that's you're the person everyone calls when they're going through something." "I am never going to be mad at you for standing up for yourself. I love you, and I appreciate you letting me know how you feel." After years in a destructive friendship, these are the voices that I deferred to. They're such good people, like genuinely gook, kind, and compassionate people, and they do not lie. At a time when I couldn't trust my own memory or account, I chose to believe them instead of the nagging voice of my abuser. They gave me a safe space to put myself back together. I am so grateful to have them.

Ash you should ofc discuss the internet issues abt you in your own time (not good to speak too soon if you don’t have the right words or w/e else; not worth risking hurting anyone more.) But, i think people demanding you to explain yourself haven’t seen enough of you to know about your own mental health struggles and s**c*d*l thoughts/etc; that you would never be purposefully ignorant about something you know is painful… at least that’s what i know about you and what sooo many other comedians COULD say the same for when it comes to joking harshly about stuff they have firsthand experience with. they would know your thing is to fuck with hecklers and roast your fans. the way i see it, your darker comedy just bleeds too much into those first two elements sometimes and that can bring you into tougher territory but… not something you would ever feel happy looking back on knowing you actually harmed someone’s emotions. more like the opposite, from what youve shared in so many convos on CF & WHGS. but seriously everyone has gone overboard in their life in the heat of the moment especially if their career relies on the heat of the moment so

For the person with a different sex drive - would you be ok with just intimacy & not sex? Because I have chronic pain & illness my want is there but I can't always act on it as much as my wife would like. But sometime a quick make-out session or even just a good snuggle time gives her enough to get by. Just her knowing that I do still find her attractive & want to be physical even if my body won't let me, really helps us! Communication will be huge in figuring out a good balance for you both!
