Love the content as a fellow JM lover, but can I make a suggestion? It was hard to follow what JM had which pickups, I had to rewind because I have ADD. In future if you do more comparison videos like this could you also put on the screen what the pickup types are? You noted the pickup position well, just please add the pickup type to screen as well for a dumbshit like me.

Grabbed a classic player jazzmaster off CL a few years ago with a hot for jazzmaster in the bridge and an antiquity in the neck. I still love that guitar very much, super versatile. Thinking of taking out the pure vintage 65 pickups in my other jazzy and throwing in some Novaks (p90 and JMV) Would love to see more JM specific pickup comparisons from you guys down the road, especially some Novak/boutique stuff that barely has any coverage online (PAF, 180, mosrite etc.) Love the videos and everything you guys do!

Dang, the only time I’ve ever liked the sound of a Strat was one equipped with Lace Sensors. Those would be cool to try. It’d be cool to hear the Duncans through the Green and the Zombee tho. You two are great, and spicy albacore hand rolls are what’s up.

Love the vid guys. Just for clarity; Red = SD Pickups and Black = Vintage Pickups right? Also which Orange amp are you using?

Yes.
@realxandercuck2 жыл бұрын
The amp we normally use to record is an Orange AD30R 2x12 combo. The Low input option and on-board reverb make it extremely useful for clean sounds but it also gives a nice punk rock overdrive with the gain cranked so I can use it for my personal work

Are you riffing on Tudo O Que Voce Podia Ser? Chords sound similar to that song. Nice review thanks. Buying a hot bridge to balance out my vintage 65 jazz pickups because the neck overpowers the bridge by a lot.

I have an older set of the Duncan. Mine are wound like Stratocaster pickups, as far as the coil being deep rather than wide (Jazzmaster guys know what I mean). I also have quarter pounder for Jazzmaster and they are likewise. This is a big deal to some people. Just a different tone to me. The quarter pounder is much darker. I’m going to do hot in the neck, quarter pound on the bridge

You know, after years & years of listening to guitar, pedal, amp, speaker, processor demo's, the single simple conclusion is: they ALL sound "good" ..... it all depends on the (1) Context; and (2) Application. (1) is perhaps the most difficult to ascertain, because you're listening to the "thing" being demo'ed in the context of playing it alone, without the integration of a full musical context (band, orchestra, ensemble, etc.). Plus, the listener is hearing some specific sound setup, without regard to any OTHER type of setup. (2) is based most specifically on what a songwriter and/or player requires a guitar to sound like in support of the song. Further, is the required sound to be applied live or in a studio, in which case the guitar can be made to sound like basically anything? So, i guess i'm pretty much jaded at this point in my listening career. Whatever i hear i can "like" AND "dislike" at the same time.
@realxandercuck2 жыл бұрын
As a jaded guitar store employee I came to the conclusion "they all sound like guitars." A great chef can cook with mediocre ingredients and a bad cook can ruin a wagyu steak.

I have a question. I have a CME jazzmaster without the rythm switch I'm looking for a rythm low sounding overdrive any recommendations?
@JasonTMays2 жыл бұрын
If it's the CME exclusive with the pure vintage pickups, I'd say the Hot Duncans for sure! but any of the hot Duncan pickups work.

Hi, new guy here. Digging the videos. Hey I'm interested in these high output Seymour Duncan's. I'm definitely more in the mid to high gain alternative camp. I have a Squire affinity jazzmater and an American performer. I actually really like the bridge pick up on the squire, just don't like the hum. Going to copper tape the cavity to see if that helps. Want to put the hot Seymour Duncan on my American performer (bridge). I'm hoping it's something like the affinity minus the hum. Basically my long winded question is, does the hot Seymour Duncan Jazzmaster pickup have a lot of hum?? 😆 Thanks!

Mustang pickups (surprising no one) and lipstick tube pickups. Definitely mess with a vegan California roll
@astridlenore Жыл бұрын
Oddly enough I got the exact opposite impression to both of you: to my ears the vintage sounded better clean and the hot ones sounded better dirty. Though I enjoy SDs I've never really taken interest in their hot line; maybe it's time to give them another listen.

Jazzmasters were build to play jazz. Because of jazz musicians didn't like the shape of the body, it was a Fender commercial failure. At first they were very expensive guitars, as much as Stratocasters, but since they were not selling and no one wanted them, they began to drop in price. They became so cheap that young working class instrumental rockers could buy them at reasonable prices. They had an unattainable Gretsch or Stratocaster in their mind, but a Jazzmaster in their pocket, and that's how the sound of surf was accidentally born. I don't deny that your test with distorted amplifiers is cool, and necessary for new users, but those of us who love these guitars prefer to listen to them through a Twin Reverb or a Showman with a tube Fender reverb unit. After your test, it is not at all clear to us what we could find in those Seymour Duncan pickups, but we do know what the old jazzmasters sound like... Nowadays there are many hipsters who like to have an original guitar, but the vast majority of potential buyers are still the same old surfers. Your test is insufficient; cool but insufficient.
