You could actually easily remover de chassis from the cabinet and easily make it into your own head, to which you could add any cabinet of your pleasing. You'd only have to create an amp output for the amp to go to the speaker.

I guess it shines better in a live band context- I have a mid 90s made in USA Hot Rod Deluxe that I threw a Jensen p12q speaker in, and I'm about to pull the distortion (Joe Satriani Satchurator) and overdrive (Bad Monkey) pedals off my pedalboard for good- neither one sounds as good as the drive channel, and they don't even come close to the "more drive" setting... although my amp is EQd totally crazy... bass and treble all the way down, mids all the way up, and presence all the way up (if using humbuckers) or presence at noon (for single coils) ....but I suppose a lot of players are more concerned with how an amp sounds alone, without an entire band playing at full concert volume lol

@@kassandjohnbolles3522 I play lead, so my impressions are based on mostly single note runs... there are some vids on my channel of me using the amp, if you watch "in space with artimus pyle" you can hear some drive channel clips during the solos, with the drive all the way up... but man the clean channel grows on me... Today this combo came to me from UK no Nairobi and it's supercool. Really glad that I have chosen this model, and this particular video helped me a lot. For many years have been playing through Peavey Classic 30 (but with a Greenback), couldn't bring it here, thought about some other tube 15-25W Fender amps at first, but then wanted something with more fuller tone and ability to have less distorted clean sound like what I'm used to. So in the end it feels like I have some more flexibility, more detail and it's really a pleasure to play guitar with it (playing HH Shawbucker Pro Strat)

Rick- your suggested settings sound really great on my hot rod 4! Also a tip for anyone who's recently purchased one... they often come biased colder from the factory (around 60mv). If you find the overdrive channel lacking in tone, have it re-biased to around 68mv. Thats the sweet spot for these amps, achieving the right balance between clean headroom and good drive.

a low efficiency speaker like a Jensen p12q is a miracle for these amps... lets you turn up quite a bit more before the deafening volume hits, plus alnico improves any tube amp IMO, but the ceramic MOD series also is a much lower efficiency, or sensitivty as they call it, SPL or whatever, just semantics... 12ay7 in V1 is great too, but I like to keep all the drive there for when I want it, so I put the 12ax7 back and the Jensen speaker transformed the amp... I'm still shocked almost a year later! Congrats on the Princeton, btw!

Best decision ever for this amp... I took the 12ay7 back out so I can still have maximum gain on tap when I want it, and in this video they give a great hint to tame the amp some- back off the EQ... I keep the bass and treble all the way down, mids all the way up, and use the prenence as my only variable tone knob... however I play with a loud drummer, another guitarist, and a bass player... I play lead, and that amp cannot be beaten for versatility and beautiful tone, or gnarly grit when you want it! I agree, great gigging amp!

I had this experience, as well. I tightened all the screws, replaced seals, etc. Turns out, in my case, that it wasn't the amp rattling. It was my room. Specifically, the items on my TV stand and shelves. Make sure you park the amp on carpet, and be mindful of any game cases, game systems, or other items that might be loose on your furniture and shelving. This thing moves a LOT of sound. Even at lower volume, I had stuff rattling. I secured all that stuff, and the rattling stopped. More importantly, I had peace of mind that my amp was fine. Good luck. I hope this helps you.

Not as loud however I live in an apartment and I can barely get away with my Princeton luckily my neighbor also plays guitar so that helps. But I can't help but feel that these would benefit from an onboard attenuator. I really don't know why nobody seems to put attenuation in their tube amps. I understand the whole purists thing but times are moving forward gigs are getting quieter there's no reason to have even a 40 watt amplifier cranked. If I were to assume I guess would be that for some reason only digital amplifiers get built in attenuation some of the time whereas with tube amps maybe it's just too difficult? I'm not sure. Perhaps it's due to the electronics?

Probably because attenuators can be had on the used market fairly cheap and with a range of features and tones to be had it would feel more like a cheap addition rather than a viable feature. Same reason new tube amps don’t come with a bunch of effects built in.

@mattmanley7118 4 жыл бұрын
@@XneverstopfightingX I see your point however it's my understanding that you don't want to just buy the cheapest attenuator on the market because it can literally blow your amp up You need a quality attenuator and those I think are anywhere in the sub 600 range and for most people myself included that's pretty expensive. I do a lot of reading and I have considered getting an attenuator even for my Princeton and the one thing that people echo is to not cheap out because it can risk your gear.

It’s just Fender that can’t seem to figure out the market wants built in attenuators. Lots of other amp companies have them built in and if you need a Fender type sound there are boutique amps that have Fender-style circuits with power scaling or attenuators.
@mattmanley7118
@mattmanley7118 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheBenb1999 That's part of the problem the boutique I am not a fan of that market at all more so than the mass produced market. I'm sorry but just because something is handmade doesn't mean it costs 80% more some of these boutique amplifiers and guitars cost the payments of a house. I want built-in attenuation on tube amps but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg and a kidney either.

It would be great if you updated the circuit instead of the cosmetics. Fender, you know the inherent problems of the zenner diodes right on the board, the big cement resistors against the board and other things that burn up and ruin the traces. Just put the right parts in and elevate them off the board from the factory. It's not that difficult. And please put reliable filter caps in instead of those junk cheap IC brand caps that notoriously fail. Make this amp great from the factory so we actually get what we're paying for.

I have one of these amps. It sounds pretty great -- even the drive channel sounds good, for what it is. BUT, using the effects loop (as you would want to with the drive channel) adds unacceptable noise. Fender, fix that in the HRD V! But enough about the amp, let's talk about Rick's hairline: Incredible for a guy his age! He's one of the rare lucky ones, for sure.

Bartek Mateja that’s a hard one. If you want the same sound the Blues jr does a good job and is 15 watt instead of 40 but it still does not have a headphone jack nor an effects loop. I am in the same dilemma. Need a nice clean amp but with an effects loop and a headphone jack. I’ve been looking more at a used Blackstar Artist 15 which has a very nice clean and has the options I’ve been looking for. Used prices are about the same for each. I will probably end up with either the Artist and perhaps the HT20 by Blackstar.

having used a vintage original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A for 10 years, I can tell these new amps don't have a tube rectifier ? while they do simulate the natural distortion somewhat, there is still the underlying tone of a sterile solid state rectifier, rather than the more musical, ringing tones of a tube rectifier. solid state rectifier makes the sound more linear. when someone says "takes pedals well" that tells me it NEEDS PEDALS. i.e. scooped mid frequencies. whereas the original '55 Tremolux 5E9-A didn't need pedals other than a wahwah, and original tremolo foot switch button. When I'd put distortion or phase on the Tremolux, it would sound muddy, and take away from the oem vintage sound tone. the original pleasing musical distortion was in the circuit itself, the caps used, transformers, and volume knob.
