Thank you so much and Merry Christmas. I have a 54 Ford f100 and swapped out the tie rod to a solid one years back. It was so far off it pulled to the right. I did not have a plumbbob but used a long level and got higher up on the tire and chocked it on the ground. Over and inch and a quarter toed out. Fixed in less than 15 minutes. Cannot wait to try it out tomorrow. I cannot believe how easy it is. I assumed I would have to drop the tie rod. Thank you!

What would cause the tie Rod to make contact with the shackles on the spring??? Not heavy enough spring?? Or wrong shackles?? 5:56

Thx for the video. Wishing you would have addressed caster...and WHY it helps. How much is too much? I set 8⁰ in mine from the factory 4⁰ setting. Caster helps straight line stability I realize... sling shot dragsters have as much as 18⁰... but what is the limitations for street and WHY are those the limitations. I also realize power steering helps with more. Thx spanky

I touch on that on another video and I do it at the point of building the chassis. Thanks for watching brother. It’s time to do another video on this. That was 3-4 years ago. -Spanky

That was some good information in fact I'm going to go out in my garage right now and do that but I have a question do you have a video showing how to is that the caster I have a degree wheel but I'm not sure where to mount it at so I'm really hoping you have a video thank you

I don’t have a video for that but I’ll make one. I put caster in as I’m building the frame at the crossmember. About 5 to 7 degrees.

Please show how to fix the camber on an early Ford solid axle

I build most of that in the chassis with the cross members. If it’s excessive your axle will need proper attention by a professional.

Couldn't you use the backside of your brake drums to drop a ruler down to tape on the floor? Wouldn't that have been easier and more accurate?

It is an important part of most alignments. It’s very technically and with a beam axle and few adjustments on this vintage front end hard to do anything about in that wasn’t addressed when the chassis was built. I build my chassis to help eliminate bump steering and never have issues. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts. -Spanky

How do you do a 4 wheel alignment on the floor at home with a home built straight axle hot rod?
@SpankysHotRodsandCustoms2 жыл бұрын
It can be done. You would need to use strings and a long tape measure. I will start a video that will cover this soon. When I build the chassis I pull tape and stings to make sure the rear end is perfectly aligned thanks for watching and your questions. I will cover this soon

@SpankysHotRodsandCustoms3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your support with watching. The tires are 700r18 and 500r16 both on 6” rims, the brakes are to so-cal replica with disc inside. I have another with the real Buick drums. I like them both but the replica/disc work great on the roadster because that car is driven hard and fast.

The kingpin inclination is spot-on for this type of car. The rims look good just may not be to your taste. Inculcation is the wrong word here it means: to teach and impress by frequent repetitions or admonitions. 😀
