When Lloyd Bridges (The President) took the role of the glue sniffer in Airplane, his sons Jeff and Beau Bridges had to convince him to take it. He was a dramatic actor and thought it might ruin his career. In fact, it reinvigorated it, since he turned out to be an even better comedic actor. The man in the other boat where they said "I loved you in Wall Street" was Martin Sheen, Charlie's father. They were both in the movie, Wall Street. He was also in Apocalypse Now, where most of the movie was spent on a PBR boat.
@dansiegel9959 ай бұрын
The BEST joke was Topper on the river boat - his deep serious inner monologue was basically the same exact words from his father's performance on a gunboat traveling on a Vietnamese delta in the film Apocalypse Now - and then of course passing each other on the river, where their voices overlap...and both complementing each other's performance in the film Wall Street, where they played father and son together (Martin Sheen is of course Charlie Sheen's real father). Both AN and WS are top 100 films of all time, and must see ASAP.

In the movie Apocalypse Now, daddy Sheen's character was also traveling up a river on a boat. I won't say why, or add anymore just in case you two decide to watch that movie. Don’t forget the Casablanca references. They pretty much just straight up took the plot of that movie with the love story between Topper and Ramada (the train station abandonment rain thing, finding out that she was married before, Topper telling her to get on the plane with her husband instead of him, etc). I love the Godfather references too. When they’re in the restaurant, if you look behind them, it’s the meeting in the Godfather where Michael assassinates Captain McCluskey and Virgil Sollozzo. Also at the end when Michelle asks Topper to “get her off the hook. For old time sake,” she is a directly quoting Tessio’s line from the Godfather when they discover that he was the traitor who tried to sell out Michael to Barzini. That’s what he says to Tom Hagan before they take him away. My favorite though is the dual Apocalypse Now/Platoon meta reference when Charlie Sheen (Platoon) and his father Martin Sheen (Apocalypse Now) both quote lines their characters said in those films, only to meet each other by saying “I loved you in Wall Street,” which they were also both in. Classic!!!!
