While there is a difference between hardcore moshing and straight up crowd killing, I do agree that the latter is dumb. Moshing is fine, and obviously it's violent. But speaking as someone who lost a brother to SDH (blood pooling in the brain) from some clown spin-kicking himself off the stage at a Jesus Piece show (basically kicked in the skull, and then got landed on by the same 200+ pound guy.), Alpha Wolf has every right to say what they did. The shit is stupid, and people who go around kicking or essentially throwing fists at each other and call it 'moshing' need to spend a few weeks in jail for assault (or murder, if it calls for it). Bands obviously care about their fans and don't want to see people who are supposed to be having a good time being rushed off in an ambulance weighing on their mind. Aaron (the vocalist) apparently heard about it what happened after the concert and showed up at the hospital. Sat down and apologized to my family despite it obviously not being his fault.

gonna chime in on the landmvrks comment: i genuinely think their vocalist makes the band. i’m a huge fan on all kinds of metal, but goddamn does the vocalist fit SO well with the music. landmvrks is so unique as a SOUND, not the lowest tuning, has and insanely unique guitar tone and that tone fits so well with the vocalist. i could probably name 4 landmvrks songs but when i say that the vocalist mixes the tone of the music and his voice perfectly i mean it. probably the best “metalcore hardcore” band out there in my eyes. just my opinion.

Just because music is heavy and inherently animalistic and primal does not excuse unsolicited violence and assault. People need to control themselves and not assault others, it's that simple. This includes people on the edge of the pit, where they're either there by happenstance or because they're preparing to mosh/taking a break from moshing. Shit, this also includes people IN the pit. Majority are out to have fun, get a little physical, and enjoy the music. Being in the pit is not a signed contract or consent to get punched in the face. Don't be a crowd killer. Don't be a pit bully. You're not cool. Blaming the culture is a scapegoat and there is way too much victim blaming when this comes up. (This is not directed at anyone specific, just my take on the subject).

My biggest problem with metalcore as of late is that it doesn't exactly scratch the same itch. As you said, they add alot of outside elements making alot of the songs to sound either very experimental, or almost too butt rocky and incorporate alot of Linkin Park-esque choruses. Not necessarily bad, just often feels like the artists are ashamed of metalcore. Even alot of the deathcore artists seem to be ashamed of their core elements and are trying to win over the metal elitists. Luckily I'm more of an extreme metal fan , so deathcore bands becoming more blackened and more technical is a big win for me

I would argue that we are already getting a resurgence of the MySpace Deathcore sound three bands that I would say are already doing it are, ‘Hstages, The Devastated, and Decline of Order. And these are all bands in which I think do the MySpace style of Deathcore way better than the MySpace Deathcore bands did back in the day.

Crowdkillers have knocked out people's teeth who purposefully maintained distance from the pit. You can mosh without hitting people with fists or kicking them with the intent of hurting them inside the pit as well

Yes this! Finally someone with decent followers addressed this crowd killing nonsense! Attending heavy music show doesn't mean signing up for permanent and lethal injuries. Some people just want to listen and appreciate the music. I get this sort of genre builds up unreleased energy that forces you to do chaotic movements but that doesn't excuse you to be completely loose and purposely targeting people! Have some restraint for fucks sake! You could kill someone!Crowd killing should just be banned already honestly

Here’s a BIG heart take from me! I more often than not underground core bands make better music than popular core bands with some exceptions. PERIOD! For Example: Dead Days, Healer, Dreamshade, Before I Turn, Divisive, Decline of Order and Sail’s End make better music than Bring Me the Horizon, Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria, Suicide Sioence and White Chapel.

Personally I love what Bad Omens are doing. It's not that they're adding electronic stuff, because that's not new, but they added this poppiness and catchiness that feels fresh while still feeling heavy. And they are FUCKING AMAZING live. I've grown to really love them. And idk what you'd classify Greyhaven as, but they're also really fresh and have a cool sound/aesthetic that's not entirely metalcore or hardcore.

@The Coin Has A Say yeah that's fair. That's also what some people wanna here sometimes though. You can't go wrong with familiarity, sometimes people vibe the hardest to the "generic" stuff because the scene is oversaturated with people trying to outdo each other. Simple yet effective, at least for me.

My opinions on a few of these takes: 2022 is a weak year: The only thing I remember from last January to March was the Architects record. This year, we had Underoath, Bad Omens, Skillet, and who knows what else. Also, isn't it insane that there's only a week between Memphis May Fire's new record and Motionless In White's new record?? Like, give me room to breathe please 😭. Rerelease singles: Agree to disagree. Ryo Kinoshita's Japanese vocals on Holy Roller...no words to describe the feeling that gave me. Also, the Backbreaker by FFAK remix(forgot who it featured), and the Charlotte Sands feature on Hallelujah were both really good, imo(yes, the Sands feature could've been mixed a lot better, but I still enjoyed it). Bad Omens bridging the gap: I just wanted to shout out Starset because I love them so much. Yeah, I disagree. Smaller or unrecognized bands changing the game: Replying to that with a hot take of my own: The smartest and most ambitious mind in metal right now is Oli Sykes. He's trickling Bring Me into the mainstream which is good for the scene as a whole.

Ok deep breath here lol. Another hot take. And granted this is coming from someone not super familiar with deathcore. I think Lorna Shore are really doing something different and unique with their music. The symphony and choir chanting. I know other bands have done it. But not this well and used as much. That mixed with Will Ramos being a beast and one of the nicest and coolest guys. Really adds to it. I’m not a huge progressive fan. But there are a ton of prog and prog metal bands that have shorter songs. Meshuggah, Periphery, Cynic, Tesseract, Rush. Even bands like Opeth and Between the Buried And Me have shorter songs. This year hasn’t sucked for music. Plus we’re not even halfway there. There’s been plenty of great new music and band

I'd say Mental Cruelty's most recent album has basically done the same thing as Lorna Shore's EP. Better or not is up to opinion but I'd like Lorna Shore to expand beyond basic song structure and try something a tad more complex to give it more life
@ryanpolk3141
@ryanpolk3141 2 жыл бұрын
@@cokejones yeah that is very true. I was more getting at they were more or less the first ones to heavily incorporate that sound. I know bands like Cradle Of Filth we’re doing it before. But Lorna just sounds different somehow. Beautiful and extremely heavy at the same time. I’m very much hoping they’re new album they will. From what I’ve heard Will was still very new and they hadn’t really bonded yet. So hoping the tour will help bring that fresher sound

The first prog take is kinda sad, the culture of immediacy thing is harmful to art appreciation, good rewards come from putting some effort on it, and 3 min is pretty short for an intro, some albums kick in after 10-15 minutes of buildup, that's what I would call long.

Right? I'll admit I don't listen to a lot of prog but I've heard my fair share of atmospheric black metal & blackgaze tracks that are upwards of 10+ minutes in length and begin after a 3+ minute intro track and are legit excellent.

On the subject of Crowdkilling, I hate that shit when it pops up anywhere outside of a hardcore show. If I'm center crowd at a hxc show, I'm liable because I know it's gonna happen. It's not expected nor particularly wanted outside of that space even though I've seen it at metalcore shows for years, I came to break musical bread with like-minded folks, mosh, headbang, watch my favourite musicians and sing along, not potentially go home with a concussion because someone left the door open on the clown car and people want a free pass on being violent with the safety blanket of there being no repercussions because "it's just crowdkilling/hxc dancing bro", it's fucking annoying, obnoxious, selfish and dangerous is what it is. When someone falls in the pit, you immediately extend a hand to get them up, you don't kick them in the head on the way down.

Every crowdkilling clip you showed here is not someone "enjoying the primal aspect of the music," it's just blatant assault. It's extremely violent assault and it can land people in the hospital or worse, there's no excuse for it. Music by itself doesn't make you go violent and attack everyone around you, this is a choice you consciously make.

The crowdkilling thing is kinda touchy. I think you should always have a healthy level of caution, but sometimes things go too far and people can get hurt. Nobody wants to catch an elbow to the face, but know that it can happen.
