Can you imagine another actor in a great film like The Searchers? John Wayne was also very good in Red River and Rio Grande,The Man Who shot Liberty Valance. He was also good in the comedy westerns of the 1960's . Over all his performances are much more subtle than some people think. Although more a presence than an actor , but again,being able to convey or project that presence is a hell of a skill.

I absolutely miss when Disney was creative, but I also know why they stopped. It's gross, but people buy tickets and see those live action films and the new Star Wars films. We live in an age where people are obsessed with nostalgia, but knowing when to say when is important. Personally, if I want to watch something I have fond memories over I just watch it instead of longing for a remake or sequel (the ones that aren't needed, anyway).

Here's the thing about men and women getting together in movies that aren't necessarily about that, usually over the case of a day or several these characters experience many dizzying highs and many challenging lows, and an understanding few moments are usually built in during moments of rare cool down, it's so overwhelming in both directions in this short time frame that they both have their emotions. These aren't normal lives, or they are, but the times they are in are very abnormal. Men and women not getting together happens in the actual world more than men and women getting together, but how many people in the world have had one very dramatic scenario, never mind a few go on, and to share that with somebody else can get very confusing. People get Stockholm syndrome for each other a bit in these times, they may not usually be around each other, but now they are forced to and part of them can kind of like it, and misinterpret things as romantic. In Ghostbusters Venkman was just a guy who had a crush on Dana, and in turn she fell for him a little bit because he made her laugh. Of course it was all expedited by his would-be girlfriend turning into a dog and her eventual recovery from that. Even in Speed they referenced this, Sandra Bullock saying most relationships formed in intense scenarios don't tend to work out. You rarely see if they ever do or not. By the time Speed 2 happened, Keanu didn't exist. These are rare situations and if you're free and single (or not but attracted) it can bring people together very quickly. Movies we watch aren't about peoples everyday representation, these are rare moments where lots of things happen very fast. One or two random moments of hornyness is very possible lol.

My one note is … “Woke” is a four letter word. Has outlived its usefulness, has become such an ambiguous (and FoxNuz mantra) word. Yes, the context does allow the intended meaning to be less clouded. Though I think better words with some specificity amongst the OverMisuses of the jwoke word are preferable. Though, without always agreeing, I watch your videos religiously … great artistic intelligence …

I dislike political correctness and identity politics from both the left and the right, but Disney being “woke” is the least of their problems in my opinion. Putting a random gay character in a movie is honestly not the end of the the world. I feel like a lot of people complain (not saying Maggie is doing this) about woke culture to shift focus away from actual issues that matter.

Amen. And one of those issues is that the Walt Disney Corporation seemingly owns around 60% of all intellectual properties considered filmable right now. They're killing their own particular golden geese, but I don't see even a semblance of a film industry that can replace the live-action remakes and Wonder Woman and Star Wars stuff. I guess when the kids get tired of Superman, then it's all over. (shrugs)

I feel like a lot of the objections to Disney being “woke” (not that the term really means anything anymore, anyway) typically stem from one of two things: reactionaries thinking that Disney is declaring some sort of war on traditional values, and people who recognize how disingenuous Disney’s efforts to capitalize on social progress are. Personally, I’m always a fan of more representation in media, but I care more about good storytelling - and bad storytelling can often be more harmful for marginalized groups than the good done by mere representation, especially if the representations are grounded in cliches and crude stereotypes.

All the musical numbers are so much fun just like a lot of the famous Old Hollywood musical numbers. 'Blame Canada' should've easily won Best Original Song over Phil Collins 'Two Worlds' in Disney's Tarzan. Also _The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance_ ! The value of "presence" seems amplified in cinema. Orson Welles considered his own presence on camera problematic saying he was handicapped to playing parts that depict "the fragility of the king" or else discombobulate the scene. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rWOZapt8rst-gJI art has a more important human function than mere escapism. It might only seem that way atm because it has been devalued as but another product to be sold, as content to be consumed. Creativity should exist at the frontier of consciousness, inventing a language for ideas that can't be casually discussed. Serious "judgement" or criticism is an integral part of this dialogue. The whole process is equally as important to our development as a species as science imho.

I think Blade Runner (like many Cyberpunk works) is, at its core, stepping into a world that is itself an elaborate futurescape. A futurescape that is an immersion into a trajectory of things like humanity, technology, culture, etc. A dazzling world of species self exploration through development and more... that a whole lotta people just don't care about. Cyberpunk is just another genre. Future, moral complications, expanding technology, runaway human development, etc. It's okay for some people to love it. And however bad the prequels are, at least they tried to be something different. Give me a clumsy tangent about the properties of sand over the reanimation of Carrie Fisher’s corpse any day. Give me Dexter Jettster’s inexplicably anachronistic 50’s diner over that stupid casino planet from The Last Jedi. Give me a literal mountain of slaughtered younglings over Rose. The prequels are infinitely more entertaining, even if for the wrong reasons. Second: Forrest Gump is a fascist film. Forrest is constantly rewarded for blindly following authority and submitting to the will of others. Jenny, the free spirit, sees everything in her life go horribly wrong for daring to live it on her terms and, in the end, gets AIDS and dies. When Forrest gets involved with Jenny, his punishment is to get AIDS and die, as well. Also, even if it were not fascist, it would still be overrated.

I had a teacher in film school who loved Forrest Gump precisely because of this: he though that Forrest constantly being rewarded for blindly following orders was a critique of the american dream and the type of people who "make it", if that makes sense. I haven't seen the movie in a while but for some reason that take stuck with me.

@@tomasmaniago5832I like that. The idea of championing FG as a right wing idol is funny because he's clearly quite moronic. Most of the film is told as FG's rambling at a bus stop so i tend to interpret Jenny's depiction as part of his naive and exaggerated understanding of the world.

I think part of the problem with people not holding Star Wars in high regard like they used to is the oversaturation of Star Wars by Disney. It can be a bad thing to have too much of a good thing.

Glory be! Somebody who agrees with me about John Wayne. This person was monotone in voice, wooden in body language and walked like he had rocks in his boots. The charisma he is reputed to have completely escapes me, yet he is supposedly an iconic star (well maybe not so far from the truth, because icons are very stiff, stylised religious representations that don't move). Most of the films he was in would, in most cases, have been better with someone who could ACT. The others, like the irredeemably awful The Conqueror might just as well use Wayne thereby saving better actors from such dross. All of this might have been OK were it not for the fact that Wayne held some pretty horrible personal views.

I don't think modern Disney's films are incredibly more ''woke'' than the 90s films. Disney's Belle from Beauty and the Beast was made to combat the negativity that came from Ariel. So, 90s Belle is actually ''woke'', as well.
@dumbcat3 жыл бұрын
if you want to dive deeper Belle's character promotes the mixing of humans and animals which was why all life was destroyed by the flood of Noah. and it's about to happen again. DNA tampering is threatening to blow the lid off this world

Blade Runner 2044 is much better than the original. Ryan G. fits well in the heroic role- and the introduction of his humanoid co-star is really touching. Star Wars, "biblical" as it may seem is just one of many space operas expressing man's need to reach for the stars...

He did the same performance in every single movie he ever did i 100% agree with Tim Raths, he was bland, boring, and am sorry quite hilariously bad in some of the movies i have seen him in for example he has the worst line reading i have ever heard in a movie as the roman solider who witnesses Jesus dying on the cross in The Greatest Story Ever Told he sounds drunk and half asleep when he says his line.
