Probably one of the better camping videos out there. To see when things don't go well, but a person still overcomes and gets it fixed, really is a genuine video. Everyone's campouts are so perfect on KZbin. Good to see one where the bad actually occurs.

How refreshing to see a trip that doesnt go perfect. The problems with the tent and stove , the weather and everything . Thanks for doing an honest video! The stove is a bit concerning, the sooty build up and the front cover being too tight when hot. Awesome job.

Ive been watching your videos for a lot of years...reaching back to your teardrop. Ive learned stuff from you and entirely enjoyed your beautiful videos. In the past year you seemed annoyed about something, and I've backed off watching your videos. Your question drew me back to watch and i very much appreciated this video. Sometimes things go sideways and you owned it and put it out there. I'll be watching again Jason. Thanks.

Thank you for having such a positive attitude during such a difficult situation! You could have complained the entire time, but you just adapted and overcame. If camping was easy, everyone would be doing it! Just like the other comments, we appreciate all the work that goes into your videos. Keep up the great work.

I own this tent and if you keep the floor zipped together with the tent the water will not enter. I camp in the winter months on Vancouver Island and have never had a leak. I also put the insulated floor down then put the tent with the nylon floor on top. This keeps the ground warm.

We’ve probably all been there at one time or another. Camping is a learning experience every time. If things don’t go as planned, then we make notes as to what we need to fix. If it goes smoothly, well then we are figuring it out. It’s a new to you tent and stove but others have figured it out for their own needs . Luckily Gary is there sharing the experience with you. Good friends and camp mates are priceless. Hang in there because we appreciate what you do and we all benefit from your trials and successes.

If you're burning pine, it will clog up your chimney sooner with all it's sap. Harder wood burns cleaner thus requires less frequent clean out. You might like to give the Springbar Skyliner or Classic Jack 140 a look with a Winnerwell stove. Brian loves his Ellis Tent and I don't remember the stove he uses for his tent. He has a few!

If your flue and stove outlet is getting chocked or sooting up it is usually caused by the wood not being completely dry. A resin is given off which acts like fly paper attracting the detritus from the smoke and eventually reduces the dia of the chimney

Just par for the course dude. All I use to do was either backpacking or primitive camping on my own, or tent camping with my wife and daughter. Then it was trailer camping. Got way too spoiled with the trailers. After the divorce I started to cot tent camp with a few extras like a pop up and wood stove or other heater, and the learning curve has been a real mixed bag. Forgot the toilet one time, the shower the other, both once, one blunder after another after being use to just hook up and go 🤣😅😂. It ain’t no thang. Just getting your feet wet again…LITERALLY 🤣😂. Love the videos. Like I said in the last Im hoping to be in my Sierras soon. May have been delayed. I FINALLY found a property to park my trailer on. The owner seems great, so I might be setting up a space then moving. Either way I’ll get there. You just keep doing what you do 😁👍

And yeah. I had one of those little barrel like stoves you get on eBay. It lasted dang near 9 yrs of use multiple times a week every winter. But if you burned that pitchy wood it would clog. Always the pipes, it didn’t have those baffles or adjustable venting systems, but man it would really mess up the burn and smoke you out.

The insulated floor i believe is for very cold winter camping, for the conditions your in this video i would have just used the nylon zip in floor or no floor at all. As far as the stove was that the dry wood bundles you used that night?

Very nice video. Now I know what it takes to video. How many takes on that Jackery video? Actually, you got it on the first try, but you wanted to improve it. That was fun though. Always a pleasure to camp with you. Good experience and adventure and thanks for the compliment. Only wish we found what we were looking for while hiking.

Jason I've been watching your channel for probably 8 years. That being said and I think they gave you that stove, throw it out. I do quite a bit of hot tent camping and Pomoly stoves are absolutely fantastic. I have two of them and just live them. They won't break the bank either. They really really well out together.

As Alf ( sitcom TV series), would say, Hey, things (sh..) happens. Lot worse might of happened. Here's a thought about the water situation: always make sure the center of the tent area is convex to the floor edge and not sticking out but say, an inch in on the inside all around. Then water can't pool. As far as the stove, seems that stove is made for more hard woods because of slow burning which is causing the build-up of creosote. Guess a small brush and scraper is needed in the kit. I'm sure you'll work it out.

Stack the wet wood around the fire and use it as a heat deflector while it dries.
@RimfireAddicted70
@RimfireAddicted70 Жыл бұрын
There's a good chance the build up in the stove is due to burning wet or "unseasoned wood" and/or lack or good air flow. That baffle design does not appear to promote air flow but more of an obstruction baffle. I think the design overall is just too basic because it is trying to maintain a lightweight build. Cylinder style stove have successful over the decades due to their shape promoting air flow without sharp 90 degree angles that don't allow flow. That's the direction I'd look into for a solid cold weather stove.

Instead of buying wood you could in your off time collect some wood and have it drying in or around where you stay on a more permanent basis. In your region you could procure and cure quite a bit of campfire wood in a short amount of time for the times you are in the field.
@PrimalOutdoors
@PrimalOutdoors Жыл бұрын
That is all well in good, if the original trip I bought the wood for was pre-planned but I was out of town and did not have any wood in the van so it was advantageous to pick some up at the store. Typically I cut all my own wood, but sometimes convenience wins out. Jason
