He’s a classically trained conductor, a pioneer in vocal percussion and polyphonic singing, and he’s performed and recorded music in most genres from classical to jazz to hip hop to folk and beyond. You probably only know him from ‘Don’t Worry Be Happy’, but I recommend looking up his other music, particularly his live performances (I’d recommend ‘Drive’ and ‘Ave Maria’ in particular). He also did an incredible lecture on the pentatonic scale that’s been widely used as an educational resource by music teachers and professors. The term ‘musical genius’ is thrown around too often, but it definitely applies in Bobby McFerrin’s case.
